What are your biggest gaming regrets?

I sell games to buy new ones only to realize I should've kept the old games. WHEN WILL I EVER LEARN???!!!

I just got rid of Kameo and Need for Speed on 360 for Castlevania: Curse of Darkness. I don't get it.

I like to think there's a cool guy in all of us dorks wanting to be free.

That was the cool guy in you wanting to be free!

Yeah he got out for a bit, but then I threw him back in the cage and bought a Dreamcast. :lol

True.

Let me rephrase.

I keep on selling my good old games for less good new ones. WHEN WILL I EVER LEARN??!!

I guess I just wanted something different to play, whether it was great or not. And it's certainly not great (Castlevania) but it's a hell of a lot better than I expected. But they still need to figure out the concept of good level design, and trying to fight some of the enemies, especially the flying ones, is piss-on-children annoying.

Not even knowing/having the chance to stop my deadbeat dad from selling my NES/SNES/Genesis & games.

Buying an N64 and XBOX. 7 games between them which is 1 less then what I've gotten for the DS in less then a year. -_-; At least those 7 games are all great.

Getting Suikoden III because I liked the first and it was on sale for $40 back when it first came out.

Not buying Powerstone 1/2, Bust-A-Groove and a ton of other games I rented and loved.

Lets see:

- Pirating games for the sake of pirating
- Selling old games to buy new ones.....never again
- buying WoW and only playing for a month
- Still haven't beaten Metroid Prime
- Recently blowing $300 on a new video card and another 1gig of ram.....just to still play my consoles the majority of the time
- Paying $55 for DooM III....never again. Actually vowed to never pay full price for games ever again
- Not buying an Xbox360 and resell on Ebay....my wife was paticularly pissed about this one when she saw the going rates a few days after launch :lol
- Playing MMO after MMO just to finally realize I will NEVER keep playing them and they're a waist of time
- Buying a PS2 and 10 games for $65 off a friend just to trade in all of the games for store credit!!!!! Granted, most of the games were crap, but some were great and should have kept
- Buying FFX twice just to realize I do fucking hate the game and its the worst FF in the series IMO.... *crosses fingers for FFXII*

all I could think of for now

not modchipping my PS2. Yeah that's right. I dont (or didnt) have the money to buy a lot of games so pirating my PS1 back in the days was the best thing i've ever made. I discovered so many gems I would never heard of if my ps1 wasnt modded. I said to myself to stop the pirating and play legally on the PS2. Worst decision ever. Final conclusion? Having 13 games on the PS2 and being totally disappointed with the crapgames made me go meh at this gen.

when I purchase my PS3, im instantly gonna modchip it.

I will not buy another system at launch ever again!!

see you at the PS3 launch.

Buying every Nippon Ichi game that got an US release.
I don't even like their games but I was never able to resist them.
Must have played each for about 3 hours or so, except Phantom Brave which is still
sealed and covered in dust. What a waste....

Throwing away all my 89 and early 90's issues of Gamepro, EGM and Nintendo Power (Did this 2 years ago :( ). From 2nd grade onward, all the magazines I had bought with the 5 dollars I would ask my mom for. Reviews for Bubsy, Super Nes unveiling, 3DO previews, Turbo Express ad's.

It was fun reading NES, SNES, 3DO, etc reviews as if they are new systems. EGM was a THICK magazine back then, not that skinny 100 page shit we get now. They dont make them like they used to.

Misplacing and losing boxes and manuals for nes games is another regret, through the process of packing and moving from our house I found the manual for NES TMNT behind a shelf. It must have been back there since I was in 2nd grade. I was shocked when I saw it. The Nostalgia slaps you in the face, you pick up the manual and wipe the dust off like its some excavated treasure.

Probably not picking up a brand-new Virtual Boy in the box with all the games, when it was like $20 clearance with $5 games. That would've been cool to have as a collectible. I probably should have grabbed two of the systems.

I also wish I had picked up one of those redesigned top-loading NES systems Nintendo released around 1992, which now go for a ton on eBay.

And yeah, losing some of my old game mags -- though I still have kept quite a few from as far back as 1992.

Yeah, Phantasy Star 2 as in my favorite game ever. I have no idea what kind of drugs I was on when I did that...

Hmmm, I saw that sitting in a gamestore window the other day, I was kinda shocked. ^^; Never even saw it for sale when Mega Drive games were readily available. hehe

My regrets.........

Letting my friend borrow my N64 and games.. He left all my games on a god damned bus! I lost OOT, Mario, SSBM, Mischief Makers (particularly annoyed about this one seeing as I've never seen it in any shop since), Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and some other games.... ; ;

Once when I was younger me and my familly were working on Faxanadu (dunno how well known the game is *shrug*) on the NES and we were right at the end (we didn't realise this)... Anyway, one morning I picked it up before going to school and tried to go through a bit to get some idea of what to do next so when we all sat down and played it would be faster...... I ended up killing the final boss and felt really bad for it as my brother walked in right as it happened and was kinda pissed... >.< We ended up finishing it that day, but, it didn't feel the same....... It had already been done... ; ;

Selling random games I would love to get hold of now....

Buying random games I would love to get rid of now....

FSOD in PSO. ; ;

Starting over in PSO only to save Donkey Konga (jp release) on my main memory card the very next day..... Christmas day....... So so stupid. ; ;

Never starting PSO again.....

Wasting so much time on the internet speaking about games..... o.O

Selling my DC, buying the Gamecube, droping soda in my Atari XL's keyboard screwing my chances of playing text adventure games, and Ultima 3(or it was 2) =/

Wasting money on games I knew I wasn't going to like anyways, nothing major really, my worst buy thus has been Star Ocean 3 based on how much I loved 2, and I still managed to have fun with it anyways.

That I didn't buy Megaman 7 or Megaman X3 on the SNES when they first came out because I had already moved on to the Playstation.

I ended up getting them years later on eBay for a lot more.

- Selling my MegaCD and games (it might have been a mistake buying it in the first place, but I miss some of the games I had)
- Buying a PS2 too close to launch (shitty hardware)
- Buying an Atari Lynx and shitloads of batteries. Should've gotten me a Gameboy.
- Getting an Atari ST instead of Amiga, but all my friends did the same mistake.

Buying Legend of Dragoon and putting in the time to play through the first disc.

Missing out on great PC games while I played mediocre N64 games.

Spending more time on the GA forum than playing games.

Ok then here's the sure fire way to never have gaming regrets, according to this thread:

#1. Always read the reviews and GAF so you never end up randomly buying games you will end up hating.

#2. Never sell any games

#3. Always buy systems when they are dying/dead. If anything they are good conversation pieces.

#4. Always buy obscure peripheral games. Even if you end up not enjoying the game, they'll hold their value, and you can make your money back in a few years.

Sounds pretty much on target.

- Taking lousy care of/throwing away the boxes for every NES game I had. That was a huge opportunity lost. Luckily, my father took better care of his NES games (to the point where his original front loading NES works to this day, no blowing in the games/system required).

- Trading in EVO: The Search for Eden for...I don't even remember what I traded it for now.

- Giving away Solar Jetman and Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link to a kid I didn't even like that much for his birthday.

I stopped playing Chrono Trigger (and SNES altogether) because I had just picked up import PS1 and was blown away by the graphics of Ridge Racer and Toshinden.
