What are your comfort games?

In no particular order

MegaMan X 1, 2, and 4
Third Strike
Garou MOTW
Deadly Premonition
Resident Evil 4, (strictly the original)
Donkey Kong Country 2
Deus Ex
Chrono Trigger
The Witcher 2
Fallout New Vegas

These are all immensely replayable games to me, and are essentially equal in how much I love them and how they don't ever really get old to me.

I posed the question to my wife and got her answers as well, it's funny how different but similar we are.

Resident Evil 4
Stardew Valley
Viva Pinata
Chrono Trigger
Witcher 3
Skyrim

Grim Fandango, especially the Rubacava section. Walking around there and having conversations with the characters is like catching up with old friends.
Civilization IV: Colonization is one I find myself coming back to a lot and losing a lot of hours into whenever I do.
The Football Manager games. Although I haven't played one of those in a few years now.
I dunno if this counts but I like watching people make stuff in Cities Skylines II.

Too many. A lot of driving games, Pinball, Old pokemon and chill games you can play till fall asleep.

Battlefield 4
GTA IV & GTA Online
RDR2
Dirt Rally 2.0
Forza Horizon 4 & now 6
Pokemon Emerald / Pokemon Omega Ruby
OutRun 2006 Coast 2 Coast
Demon's Tilt
Zaccaria Pinball
Zelda BoTW /ToTK

Puzzle Quest, I don't get annoyed even when the AI opponent keeps getting crazy combos. ;p

I also love to just drive around in games like Gran Turismo or Forza Horizon, even if I'm not doing anything substantial.

It changes over the years but rn it's Kill Knight. Don't have the skills to finish the final level on Sufferance difficulty but keep trying. One day I'll get it.

I have a bunch of comfort games, but these 2 are basically ones i just go in to hang out and enjoy the world.

Natsumon: the amount of hours i have just explored every tiny single area of this small Japanese costal town. The boku no natsuyaumi games i do the same with too but Natsumon has more freedom been a open world 3D island.

Superliminal is another i love to replay again & again the mix of cozy lighting and oddly put together levels makes it one i just walk around and enjoy the music as i slowly play through each level. The amount of hours i have just put the second level on just to sit and listen to the relaxing jazz music is rather high lol. L love liminal space type games people find it creepy i find it weirdly comforting if i ever fell into the backrooms i'd love it lol.

Jokes aside forza horizon 5, it simply is great game to relax after work/long tiring day, u dont have to learn anything complicated, just turn on game and play casually 2-3 races to chill out :messenger_smiling_hearts:

Games from my childhood or young adulthood.

Max Payne

Played through that game for over 50 times at least. Still enjoy it at lot. Usually do a one playthrough per year in the winter with snow outside, to match the atmosphere.

Super Mario Land

Comfy game for a comfy playthrough.

World of Warcraft (Vanilla)

Best gaming memories from the early 2000s. I have my own private server only for me that I spin up from time to time just to wander around the world. Finding a good spot in Teldrassil to sit down, listening to the nostalgic ingame music and sounds while having a sip of gin tonic and a smoke ❤️

Nothing comfort me todays in life but i would say:
Pokemon Gold (& all early Pkmn games) most comforting soundtrack oat
Recently, Animal Crossing
Yakuza
Point and Click/VN (especially the ds ones)

Resident Evil
The original. Used to scare me back in the nineties, but now it's an absolutely comfy experience whenever I play it. I could probably list 2 and 4 also.

Final Fantasy VII
My favourite game of all time. Always makes me happy when I play it. A big part of that is definitely the music. Spent many hours in the Gold Saucer, both as a kid and adult.

At the moment it's Overwatch. Gameplay is great fun and easy to play without having to sweat too much, matches are generally quick to find and quick to finish, you can contribute to the team in a variety of ways, and the world and characters are pretty cool.

So many games I'd agree with here it's hard to keep track of. Shenmue 1 and 2 and OOT definitely fit the comfort game bracket for me too.

Edit - add the original Doom to the list too. And maybe FFX
