What are your top 3 genres?

1. JPRG: Games like SMT
2. Fighting: Soulcalibur and Virtua Fighter
3. 3D Platformers: Spyro, Ratchet & Clank, Crash

Honorable mention to racing games and the hack n' slash.

1. (Japanese) RPG - Phantasy Star changed how I looked at games. If we can get detailed, grandiose RPGs with expansive settings and visionary storylines are my absolute favorite. But the genre is so deep and has so many different varieties of style... I can get games heavy on storytelling, I can get lighthearted anime romps, I can get games with heavily abstract gameplay systems, I can get biting dungeon crawls, I can get games with an emphasis on tactics and puzzle solving, sometimes all in the same game.

2. 2D Action/Platformer - I've always found level design to be a vital component of games, and these genres absolutely nail them.

3. STG - It's a favorite from when I was a kid, pick-up-and-play gameplay combined with heavy challenge and beautiful/memorable settings (in the best ones).

Fighting, puzzle (moreso the Sokoban-inspired titles than the Tetris/falling block titles), uncategorizable-genre games, marble-rolling games, are all up there too.

FPS. I like shooting stuff, like the fast paced stories and cinematic production

RPGs. Mainly WRPGs. I love the questing, story, characters and exploring the world.

Action/Adventure. I use this broadly to include zelda, uncharted, AC type games. Fun gameplay, some exploration and puzzles, often decent story and characters.

1. Action-Adventure - Metroid, Darksiders, Batman: Arkham; I like to explore, and I like to kill things while I do so.

2. Platformer - 2D or 3D, DKC, Mario, Jak, Sly Cooper; I find jumping to be one of the most satisfying mechanics in gaming.

3. Fighting - Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Injustice, Smash; Even though I'm terrible at them, I like playing against the computer and pretending I'm good.

1. RPG's: Pretty much any kind other than MMO's. I just have fun leveling up my character, learning new skills, getting new gear (which becomes more badass over time), trying new item/skill builds and being part of an epic story.
I also like how a lot of RPG's create their own interesting worlds, and while not every setting is unique (Medieval fantasy world all sort of have the same feeling) they all have a unique lore and memorable characters

2. Hack and Slash. Games like Bayonetta, DMC or Ninja Gaiden rather than Dynasty Warriord. I love the combat system in these games. For me defeating enemies by mastering combos and evading/blocking when needed is just a better feeling than simply shooting them. Plus they generally have good enemy variety and memorable bosses.

3: Action/Adventure: For me this is really like a "bonus" genre where I put stuff that I don't consider to fully fit a specific genre. Stuff like the Batman Games, Or Wonderful 101 or Zelda or even Uncharted (which is more about the adventuring than the third person shooting)
