What brought you to NeoGAF?

I came to Gaming-Age .com in 1996 (I think) and liked the layout of the gaming stories. I didn't go to the forums then (or know if the forums existed then). Later I lost my internet access until 1999. I remembered gaming-age, when to the site, noticed the "forums" button and lurked for a while. I think I signed up in September of 1999.

You actually like posting on OA?

It's definitely not for everyone. We've had a lot of problems with trolls and spamming over the years, but for us, it's just part of the flavor.

During part of my employee training on my first (and current) job, I went to a training class intended for customers on how to configure and use our product.

Many of our customers sent 1-2 people to the training. During one of the breaks, I busted out my laptop and started looking at Ko Taco and Joystick. The guy next to me asked me if I was into gaming, and we began talking about what we were playing and whatnot.

He told me I should check out NeoGAF, because although it's "brutal" (I think that's how he described it) it's also a great place to converse with like-minded people.

...and so it was. Honestly not sure who he is on GAF :)

I started by E-Career on the Xbox.com forums back in the Xbox1 days. Over time, those forums became a ghost town. Nobody posted there, except for about 10 regulars.

Looking for a more active forum, I signed up at GameSpot. I lasted there for about 2yrs before I got sick & tired of GS' crazy mod policy. Their mods have to keep that place "Safe for 13yr olds" and will mod you for the dumbest shit.

GAmeSpot has 2 main forums: System Wars and Off-Topic. System Wars is basically a troll's paradise, but if you call out fanboys for being stupid, you're the one who will most likely get modded and/or suspended. Their OT forum is a little better, but it still has to be safe for 13yr olds. Thus, most of the topics are bland & very boring....not to mention skewed for a younger audience. I seriously felt like an old man (I'm now 29) when I posted there.

I can't believe it took me 2yrs to get tired of GameSpot. I still post my gaming blog there, but that's about it. Such shit forums.

So "What Brought Me to NeoGAF"? Besides wanting to be part of a community/forum where game devs, press, and publishers hang out, I just wanted to be treated like an adult online (instead of a treated like a kid over at GameSpot). And because GAF is really active.

I came to GAF because I saw it referenced in quite a few stories from the internet blogs and other videogaming sites. Figured I'd cut out the middleman and just go straight to the source. Also, a lot of industry people on the gaming side that spend more time here than on their own forums, so it's easier to keep updated on news for their games here.

Only really discovered off topic a year or so ago. Was scared of it at first because on the gaming side they say the same things about OT as OT does about the gaming side. Realized that there are pretty much the same types of characters in OT and that's honestly what makes GAF entertaining for me.

I've been here so long (10 years now I think? Maybe longer) as a lurker and as a poster... that I don't really remember anymore.

It's like I've always been here.

...I'm scared. :/

I was first interested in gaf because japanese scans of games were posted here. That's really it. I signed up and eventually was a member after the rule of no scans came about. Since then I keep coming back because it's got a lot of great users/content/threads in both of the main discussion boards.

I was on another forum altogether and a poster on there basically mocked the forum I was on at the time, and talked about NeoGAF being a better forum for both discussion and sales.

So I ventured over and yeah.

gaf was always talked about on the IGN nintendo podcasts, back when i cared about such. I decided to check it out, then it took about a year to get accepted, and here I am!

It was linked by another forum. I think this was around the time that the Treasures expansion was being speculated on for FFXI.

Originally for the gaming news, then I discovered the OT and Shinobi's excellent motorsport threads, continued to lurk for a while, then started posting more often and thought I'd take up the mantle of making the motorsport threads since Shinobi left/stopped posting.

Was on a german gaming-site called "consolewars" for info (this site is pure shit and full of fanboys oh god), but they would regularly link to GAF.
I found this forum vastly superior (no signatures \o/) and so I signed up!

OPN2k -> PlanetGameCube (I think that's what it was called) -> Gaming Age -> OA (ezboards with epic politic lulz, I mostly trolled them, rather than belonging) -> internet disappeared for awhile -> realized I didn't have a NeoGAF account, got approved in two weeks (lucky I think, doubt anyone remembers me throughout my internet gaming forumgoing).

One of my friends linked me to a thread about i think a VG cats comic with Legend of Zelda? That thread became the reverse mermaid thread.
And since that fateful moment i have been browsing Gaf almost daily.
