What controllers do you prefer for emulation?

Classic Controller.

If not, then I use my either my Madcatz Fightpad or my Arcade Stick.

PS1/PS2 emulation I use a PS1/PS2 pad with a converter.

Everything else on PC that doesn't require any aiming or multiple buttons i'll use my 360 Pad.

PS3 controller with MotionJoy here. Great for the oldies like SNES, and also for the newer games that use analog sticks, like the Gamecube/Wii's Gamecube controllers. Also, since it's Bluetooth, it's nice with Bluetooth dongles, but you can also use it wired.

Another option is Wii Classic Controller over Bluetooth. It's definitely better than the Playstation controller... except that it has no rumble, not very good "drivers," uses up batteries, no wired option, and the Wii Remote dangles off the controller. So it isn't my go-to controller anymore.

Why would you do that? said:

Once I saw a place selling "wii to usb" kinda of converters to use classic controller on a pc .... not sure if it works ...

This is what I use, paired with Xpadder, it works for pretty much anything.
Just started playing Super Meat Boy for the first time since release week with it. It's at least 5 times better than the 360 controller. Nintendo would make a killing if they made USB controllers :/

I didn't think to look for that. That's awesome and alleviates a lot of my problems. I'm going to think about getting one, but Classic Controller cords are kinda short...

Another problem is that they're likely not XInput compatible (both L and R buttons are independently analog). It's only really important in Gamecube/Wii emulators and certain Windows games though, so no real biggie.

I use a 360 controller. But it can get confusing when playing N64 games. I always end up trying to move the camera around in Ocarina of Time by using the right-stick and I always forget I assigned the c-buttons on it.

wii classic controller over blu-tooth

I really need to do this some day. Any suggestions on which blue tooth adapter I should pick up to do this?

As of now I use a PS2 to USB adapter w/ the Logitech Cordless Action Controller for PC titles with X360CE for those stubborn GFWL/360 only controller titles and for other general use. I also use a Gamemon device I picked up some years back to hook up a Game Cube/PS2/Xbox controller mostly use it just for the Game Cube port.

I use an original SNES pad with a USB adapter for most classic console games, and an arcade-style joystick for Mame and Touhou games.

For emulation on PC all I have is my 360 controller which works well for most genres and consoles. On my xbox I use the arcade stick and SF anniversary pad(akuma flavored).

Don't emulate much these days though. Too many new games to play and too little time on my hands. Once I upgrade my PC I will have to start buying wii games/peripherals so I can play Dolphin in HD. Those screens I see for Brawl, SMG and Wind Waker make upgrading so tempting

DS3 for games that need a dpad, 360 dpad sucks in comparison!

i remember back in the day i built parallel port adapters from radioshack parts and plans on the internet...

Oh, I have tons of adapters to use different Controllers on my PC. Arcade Sticks, both types of Wii Classic Controllers, Xbox 360, PS2, Gamecube, Saturn, and Wii Remotes.

For most 3D games, I'll default to the Xbox 360 Controller if the Emulator has rumble. I use the Wii Remote when playing a game that makes heavy use of the Wii Options. For 2D games, I usually use my Saturn Pad. For MAME, I'll switch between my Arcade Stick and Xbox 360 Controller depending on the game. Despite being able to use my PS2 and Gamecube Controllers, I don't use them to often. No drivers seems to be able to pick up the pressure sensitivity on the buttons on the PS2 Controller, and my USB connector doesn't allow Rumble on my Gamecube Controller, though it has the best Analog stick of any controller I have tried, so I pull it out for games that need a really sensitive analog stick for.

I bought one of these for the Classic Controllers:

Works quiet well, don't have to mess with additional software.

I've got a Saitek pad. 6 face buttons, 4 shoulder. Dual analog. And a really decent d-pad. It works for pretty much everything. The analog sticks aren't great though. But it feels GREAT for NES/SNES/GEN etc.

Would you kindly tell me where exactly? I have the SNES controller that plugs into your wii remote like a Classic Controller so this would be perfect for me.
(saw Amazon in image info but I failed finding it there)

Back in the early 2000's I used a trusty Microsoft Sidewinder 6-button pad for SNES and Genesis emulators. Also suitable for Saturn, PSX not so much.
Today, I just use a wired 360 controller.

I used to love using my PS2 controller, but now I mostly use an arcade stick for 2D games. I don't emulate 3D games that much, the emulation always feel off to me in 3D.

I've been using a Dualshock 2 with basically everything for the last 5 or 6 years using an old SmartJoy Plus (R.I.P., Lik-sang). It has enough buttons and features to support just about everything needed, save for analog triggers (and I have a wired 360 controller if I need those).

I found this made by MayFlash.

Looks like I may try this one out but I'd rather go blue tooth since I'd rather site back and play unless it is an FPS.

Arcade stick or shaved 360 pad.

Now that I'm happy with arcade sticks, I'm kinda beyond the phase where I'm anal about d-pads. My shaved 360 pad isn't bad, actually. Better than SNES or Dual Shock, but not exactly Saturn-tier.
