I honestly do like the use of the southern cross (stars). Looks much better on a flag than a tattoo

Honorable Mentions:

Soviet Union

To me this flag can be described in one word: Important. Its purely deep glowing red, the simple of the political system and philosophy the nation followed. Complex enough to give a message but simple enough not to be overkill. As horrible as the Soviet Union was they sure as hell knew what was appropriate to symbolize their state. Kind of like how the Nazis knew their shit with architecture.

Colorful, unique, and vibrant.

Sweden

Yes it looks like most European flags. But its so elegant, classy, and minimalistic.

I like Mexico's eagle/snake symbol, but the rest is pretty lame, specially since one of the colors (white I think) represents the "official" religion, catholicism. Fuck that stuff.

I'm also a fan of Nepal's weird design. Aside from their horrible ideas and actions, the third reich flag had a badass design.

I agree. If I try to look at the flag without the history it just reminds me of Japan's flag reversed with a symbol in the circle.

When I see all those complicated flags all they remind me of is drawing the Polish one during the arts and crafts classes (or whatever they are called). I couldn't possible draw something as complicated as the ones with guns and dragons on them, so no thanks.

pretty much. red/white/black were the colors of the second reich's flag as well. i do agree that the nazi flag is pretty lame, though i admit that i really like what they did with the war flag.

I find most banners just visually boring, so on one hand I would rather go for the most essentially sober bi-cromatic ones(England, Scotland, Japan, Botswana - I didn't know it was so elegant - Norway, Switzerland), on the other hand I appreciate some of the weirdest psychedelic ones(Mongolia, Brazil, Zimbawe, Sri Lanka, Saint Kitts and Nevis).

The US flag is an weird mishmash of clashing shapes.

It's hard to pick an actual good one, though.

Edit: The Japanese prefectural and municipal flags have many attractive 'logo' designs. Also the Hong Kong flag is nice for its flower, but it could lose the overbearing red.

Most flags are terrible. I don't know why they don't get some real designers and re-do some of them. Almost all of them have horrible colors that don't match like green/red/yellow or something. Just awful. The US flag (and similar red white blue) is tolerable but boring.

Not from a country, but I like this one a lot.

From some island place called Chuuk. I just find it really soothing/tropical resort kind of thing.

As for a country it's either Japan or Soviet Union if you count dead nations. Hammer and Sickle is a great symbol, it's a shame Stalin fucked it up though.
