What do you expect out of Xbox's E3 Conference?

I doubt they were satisfied but we'll see.

I don't see why considering how the first deal went but nothing is impossible.
They sold a million copies on XBox ONE, for a sequel to a game that they considered an underperformer. GAF narrative may have been that RoTR flopped, but the numbers tell a different story.

I think flop might be too strong of a word but RoTR almost certainly was a sales disappointment. Between the original release and the definitive edition, Tomb Raider 2013 sold over 8.5 million including 3.4 in the first month.

Of course disappointment and didn't make money are two different things.

If MS needs exclusive games (which it seems like they do), I don't think it's too far out of the realm of possibilities that they'd pay for TR again. Possibly as a full exclusive this time. If they released it in the Spring as a X1/W10/Steam release, they'd avoid some of the problems they had last time. Plus it's a different team, so possibly it'd only be getting made with MS paying for it.

I don't really think it'll happen, but I wouldn't be shocked.

Phil said there would be less of this.

He says a lot of things.

OT. Unfortunately, I don't expect much from them because with each year passing I feel like they have less and less things to offer for my liking. I'm the kind of person who loves good single player games, but they don't have that many that interest me. They were in console business for a long time and I find it baffling that they failed to build a strong first party portfolio, which makes me think that they aren't truly committed to gaming or that they are simply targeting the different audience. As a result I've only bought X1 4 months ago just to sell it two months later because I've played all the games I was interested in and upcoming titles aren't for me. On another hand OG Xbox was bloody amazing: it had a constant flow of amazing exclusives, beastly hardware and some innovative features. Then there was a 360 which was a kick ass system in the first 3 years of its existence but after that it went downhill big time. It feels like people who made an Xbox brand so appealing to me stepped down and new guys have failed to live up to my expectations.
As for Phil Spencer who has a cult of believers and followers on Gaf, I don't believe In him nor trust him because he was around for so many years and he had the chance to shape and transform MS's first party output, but he did not do much. All he does is saying whatever Xbox hardcore fans want to hear, but as for me, I will sit back and keep my expectations in check.

'courage'.

More seriously I guess I expect a name, a price and release date from Microsoft. And MS regurgitating all the same old IPs for scorpio showcases.

You do know how much Tomb Raider had sold when they considered it as an underperformer, right? 3.4 million. 1 million for a game of this kind of budget is not all that much. Not to mention it went on sale at various retailers (and on MS' store itself) for $40 before NPD results had even come out for its launch month. For a brand new release, that definitely implies it was not doing well sales wise in their eyes.

Prediction-

Those ... are garbage tier sales for an IP of Tomb Raider's stature and budget sorry

They need to bring out something hard that is not a traditional sequel. They make some steps in the right direction then take the step back. Sea of Thieves and Forza Horizon series look like their only 'unique' big game coming and they just need more.

They made some ridiculously safe sequels this Gen and they really need to bring something to compete with Sony's wacky line up and Nintendo new spin on old franchises.

State of Decay is one of the best things Microsoft has published since Halo 3. If you are looking for a unique game, that's the one.

It'd be better if they announced it was the last Halo game period.
At least for 5+ years ...

That's clearly not going to happen though :(

Each year MS have surprised me less and less. I really don't expect anything to wow me, with how little they have in the way of first party.
Boo!!!!! Maybe I'm crazy, but I feel like Halo is too ingrained as being the face of xbox to ever get rid of it. In fact, the day MS stops making Halo is probably the day MS probably goes out of the console business. It's still a really important franchise for MS and taking a break from the series would be far more detrimental than annoying a few people by releasing more games. And you never know, all it takes is one successful entry to reignite people's passion for the game. Halo 5's multiplayer was a huge turnaround after Reach and Halo 4. The game is just missing a better campaign - with more MC playtime - and more and better quality MP maps. Halo 6 could really be a diamond in the rough after such a long drought since Halo 3.

Personally, I can't wait for Halo 6. And one mainline halo game every 3 years is far from too many. As much as people claim that Halo comes out too often, it really doesn't.
People mostly lump halo wars (an RTS), TMCC (a remaster of older halo games), and Spartan Assault (a game for mobile) together with the main halo entries even though they're not really the same thing.

Cuphead shadowdrop. Come on MS.

I think MS is going to make big moves into pumping out more games. They made a ton of additions to XBL, they made all the right moves with the Xbox one S, and the Scorpio is looking to be awesome.

Why go to all that effort only to have it wasted by a lack of games. I feel like they are getting their shit together after seeing how much of a killing Sony is making with their ps4.

I understand the skepticism entirely, but I'm going on with high expectations.... Worst case scenario I come out disappointed, but that's not a big deal.

They need to do something to get people excited to play another Halo campaign again. Bringing back the Flood is probably the easiest way to attempt that. At the least, it would make the encounters feel different and varied.

There is nothing exciting about Flood. One of the reasons why i prefer Halo from 343.

Why would you think that when Sony have been putting far less emphasis on those deals over the last couple of years? CoD only got 8 minutes last year between IW and MW Remastered. Sony knows people aren't watching their conferences for CoD, Destiny or whatever, they're watching for the big exclusives (like Uncharted and GoW) and big reveals.

I don't think what they did last year matters that much considering games like Destiny and Battlefront came out before 2016.

There are sequels coming out this year for both series after E3 and before December (PSX) so I'm expecting to see both games at their conference. That's on top of Red Dead Redemption 2. Nothing wrong with it. All three games are major and would get more buzz than many of their upcoming exclusives.

For a moment I thought e3 is right around the corner.

It pretty much is. We're already almost in May, the month before E3. Always love this time of year.

But 499 is the price most are expecting isn't it? That's not really 'less than' imo.

I think most people hope for 399 but expect 499. I personally expect the opposite and 599 or 699 would not surprise me.

Lol, I guess you're right, assuming that's what most people are expecting. Ok, then $449 or $399, then. :)

I meant as in a week or 2. It's still a long wait :/

I want to know more about Scorpio and like design, pricing and games.

They'll definitely be there but I don't think that means they'll make up a major portion of the show. Especially when you consider how things were paced last year. I think there will be balance because Sony has quite a few exclusives they need to detail more.

Ah, okay. It will be here before you know it.

I want to see the Scorpio design too. My mind will be blown if it's smaller than the Xbox One S by a noticeable amount.

"Less" doesn't mean "None". If both parties were satisfied with how the deal played out last time around, seems likely they'd do it again.

Were they, though? They had to rush the launch on PC since Xbox sales were so low. I don't think Square Enix is doing it again.

Game Preview = Early Access on Xbox. There are already Early Access PC games in the Game Preview program on Xbox.

The thing is that Battlegrounds is only supposed to be in Early Access for 6 months so I thought they would wait. H1Z1 and ARK have been in Early Access for years so those aren't so surprising.

Do we have a sales numbers?

Maybe Microsoft's money is the only reason TR3 is in development, instead of another Marvel game.

lol

There's no way both parties are satisfied. The only way SE will be happy if MS covered the lost potential sales (TR 8.5M ---> TR2 4-5M), but this scenario will mean MS lost a shit ton of money for a game which didn't move that much software nor hardware.

I expect the usual suspects to show up with an insufferable focus on the whole Power thing. I expect them to try an channel Sony's PSX vibe with lots of faux casual moments.

I expect 2 new exclusives from new studios, third party. No game bombshells for people outside of the Xbox echo chamber.

Also, no new Japanese exclusive games.

No perfect dark
No battletoads
No Minecraft 2
No killer instinct 2

Crackdown 3 will be the biggest game on the stage.

A reboot would be amazing. Start fresh with the grand plans they had for the first game, like the aging and growing trees etc. I am sure they could do something really special with it.

Hell yeah, I'd love to see the original vision realised. At this point I'd be happy for any proper Fable game. It's been far too long.

Not expecting much at all in the way of surprises really. I'm sure there will be 1 or 2 but I think it's pretty much just going to be a showcase of things we already know.

- State of Decay 2
- Sea of Thieves
- Crackdown 3
- Forza 7
- Ori 2
- Scorpio

That should be the bulk of it

CG trailer of an interesting looking game, only for it to be cancelled 2 years later.

I am still salty about scalebound, because I would have actually bought an xbox one if I didn't know someone who owned one and offered to lend it to me whenever scalebound came out.

But I am sure Forza will be there.

Since people keep quoting the 8.5m number for the Tomb Raider reboot, do we know if that was actual sales or does it include copies given away as part of GWG and PS Plus? That article says the number includes the Definitive Edition. Both the 360 and X1 versions were free at one point. Pretty sure it was free on PS3 too.

Why are you expecting those prices? Especially when you have not been in the slightest impressed with the specs?

I'm worried about how much time they'll spend on Scorpio-enhancements > new games. I mean, if they spend a large portion of their conference going over their 2017 line up + multiplatform titles on the Scorpio, it would technically be a game-centric conference, but it just wouldn't be enough in my opinion.

Ofcourse, they'll also show some 2018 titles - really looking forward to seeing what they have cooking for the future.

Hopefully they won't go anywhere near another timed exclusive third party retail release again though they've done it two years in a row now (Rise of the Tomb Raider & Dead Rising 4) so who knows, that may pad out this year's releases.

Also, doing better with Japanese releases would be awesome, more options can only be a good thing and gems like Nier Automata & Persona 5 deserve to be played by everyone. If they manage to bring those over, or at the least do better with future titles, everyone should be happy and in support.
