What do you really want this "gen"?

It can be anything at all.

For me personally I want a refund policy implemented on consoles, one that has the ease of use as those on steam and origin.

I think it would be a good thing for developers in a way as it would perhaps encourage people to buy games they might not have considered buying. But the main reason obviously is for consumers so if we buy a game that is broken on release (with no signs of a fix) we can rightfully get our money back.

The other thing I'd like is a mandatory framerate that games must aim for, 60fps would be ideal. Honestly I'd sacrifice visual fidelity for framerate.

I know the framerate target is very unlikely, but surely the refund policy will be implemented eventually.

Lastly I would really like the ability to change my PSN username.

Sony to take fraud seriously and consumer complaints regarding fraud a simple, stress free process for the end consumer

Folders for PS4 and the ability to delete shit off the front page I don't want to see

Resident Evil 2 Remake

Final Fantasy VII Remake in full

For Monster Hunter to return to the consoles, don't really care if it's NX or PS4 but I'm tired of playing such an amazing game on a tiny handheld.

Return of mid-tier games.
More fresh and/or ambitious games from Nintendo (see Splatoon and Zelda BotW).
Resurgence of Japanese games on dedicated devices.
Cross-platform multiplayer for multiplats.

I want Sony to overhaul the ps4 interface and support for external HDD for game installs.

I also want an open world games where the entire game world is the continental United States. Preferably made my R*. Not a GTA game per say. Think The Crew but bigger, more detailed and nuanced.

I don't like how shorter games get punished with the refund system, so I hope it becomes a bit more nuanced as it arrives on more platforms.

I'd like cross platform virtual console purchases.

Xbox 360 BC on PC would be great too.

For Rockstar to release a new game. At this rate, they could skip the entire generation and release their next game as a next-gen launch window-ish title. I fully expect GTA VI to either be a very, very late game in this generation, or on entirely new consoles come 2019/2020.

Refunds would be great. Cross-platform multiplayer would be equally great. It would be nice to get another huge blockbuster Halo 3/Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare/Gears of War type of game that sets new precedents and leaves the entire gaming community amazed.

I agree with all of yours, OP, although I'd be fine with an absolute hard minimum of 30fps. There is no excuse for anything less than that. I would also add:

- The NX to be a roaring success, and do something genuinely unique and exciting that no one is thinking of.
- More challenging and well put together storytelling.
- More minority/female protagonists.
- More robust training and single player content in fighting games.

Return of mid-tier games.

YES.

60fps as a standard. I mean, it's 2016.

The thing that really worries me is that with the imminent "upgrades", we're just going to be doomed to 4k and 30fps more than likely.

I know it's often argued that framerate isn't as noticeable as visuals, but I honestly think we're at the stage where developers could still produce games that look good and run at 60fps.

Infact while many argue that developers need to priortize visuals above framerate (on consoles), some of the best looking games this gen are actually 60fps, doom and battlefront for example.

No cut to black loading.

MGS4 started with it, and we have seen really good implementations in Uncharted 4 and others as well.

Seamless loading. The way you can walk through a Forrest, get in a boat, sail across a great amount of water, get out, ride a horse into town, take shelter inside a tavern and watch a thunderstorm from the window( and even see the Forrest you came from) in the Wild Hunt is amazing.

The Elder Scrolls VI needs this. So much.

This I agree with.

Last gen we had so many Rockstar games, but it seems they're happy to be riding the GTA online wave.

Surely they have something in the background, but I think it's safe to say that we won't witness the same output that we did on the ps3/360 era.

A shame really as we were blessed with 2 GTA games, Red Dead, Max Payne 3, Table Tennis (which I found really good)....

Digital pricing to be examined

As someone fully digital I'd like that too, but I've been pleasantly surprised with the sales we've been having lately. They seem to be much more frequent too.

Obviously new releases are still overpriced but if you're happy to wait a few months you can defintely pick up some bargains.

I'm definitely not in favor of forcing 60fps.

Why?

Is it because you feel that it may hold back the visuals?

Just out curiosity, do you think a game would sell better if it ran at 30fps and looked better, or if it didnt look as good and ran at 60 fps?

I honestly think a good game is a good game.

Overwatch is 60fps and has done brilliantly because it's a good game. I don't think having better visuals and running at 30fps would have increased sales, or the popularity of the game.

Refunds would be great. I'd probably wouldn't be buying stuff on Android if I couldn't get a refund.

Something like being able to refund 24 hours after the purchase would be enough for me

Because I know it will hold back the visuals. Look at Uncharted 4 MP vs single player. That also why I'm kinda down on Neo if the rumored specs are true because I don't want visuals or framerate to be sacrificed.

Bethesda is Dead. At this point the next ES will be online only and not an RPG.

Some good fucking games, goddammit.

Less bloat, less cinematics. Indie games aren't necessarily the solution, either.

Nintendo seems to be the only one who still gets it.

The only issue is that would be open to abuse. I could imagine some people buying a game with the intention of running through the campaign in a single sitting.

Obviously they could have ways of dealing with those who potentially abuse the system. I think what's more likely is perhaps a maximum playtime of 2 hours and refund request within 14 days like Steam.

Because I know it will hold back the visuals. Look at Uncharted 4 MP vs single player.

So you wouldn't have been happy with a campaign with the multi-player graphics?

I guess I'm just easily satisfied. While Uncharted 4 looks amazing, I was happy with the graphics in the Nathan Drake Collection.

Anyway the reality is that the 60fps target is likely NEVER going to happen, and once 4k seems to be the resolution developers aim to hit, we'll be playing games at 30fps with framerate drops.

To get sales and budget data/ more transparency
Stop selling everything at full price
Refunds
More indies
More sales

True, 24 hours is a bit too much.

Maybe 2 hours of gameplay time could work too

While I obviously agree that graphics dont make a good game, there are still legions of people who will buy a game because they have heard about the awesome graphics, its something that can be shown in a still image, and its something that is proven to be marketable, frame rate isnt a selling point, and therefore won't be required.

You are right tho, style can trump hyper realistic visuals, my point was in normal AAA game dev where most are trying to be "realistic" looking, they will almost always go for more bells and whistles and settle for 30 fps

I'm easy to please. All I really want:

- PSN name change
- Aerobiz on the Virtual Console

If the NX counts as this gen, all digital games from Wii U and 3DS playable on it, including Virtual Console, because I have a lot and do not want to buy any of them again.

The Last Guardian. Not even kidding. I just want this one game.. and I'm actually getting it, so this gen is fine.

Thunder Force VII

SOCOM HD

Streets of Rage IV

Binary Domain Remix

PS4 Neo that takes full advantage of SSD speeds

PSN ID change

Capcom changes/fixes Street Fighter V. It's forgiven and rises to the top and becomes eSports greatest event in the next 4 years.

Yeah, at this stage I'd be happy with anything lol

Nope. Some genres worth the sacrifice for 60fps. Some I want the eye candy.

That's fair enough. Still I wish we could have both.

I know the PC is the solution, and I do have one, but for console exclusives on the Playstation I'm limited to the performance the console provides as oposed to the flexibility of my rig.

I know what you're saying, and you're right. Visuals sell, and framerate is very hard to convey.

if I remember rightly I'm sure Insomniac even released a statement as to why they don't push for 60fps anymore.

edit: Here's the article for anyone that might not have seen it. From the horses mouth as it were http://www.insomniacgames.com/how-much-does-framerate-matter/

I just want good games. It's easy to ask for sequels, but in the end it's kind of meaningless to do so. If we get sequels we're missing out on other ideas the devs have. As far as I'm concerned, they can do whatever they want, with whatever specs they want, as long as it's edifying.

I want Nintendo to make a huge comeback with the NX with Gamecube-tier games.
I want Konami and Valve to redeem themselves.
I want Platinum to stop making shitty Activision games.
I want all consoles to have digital refunds.
I want Japan's gaming scene to make a comeback to the glory days.
I want the mobile market to stop rewarding grossly exploitative trashy F2P bullshit.
None of these are happening.
