What does GAF think about Cristiano Ronaldo?

The best example of a "hard worker" the sport has ever seen. 8 years ago, he was nothing more than a guy who knows how to do step overs. He evolved his technique, strength, and tactical positioning in an unprecedented manner. It was inspiring to watch him grow.

8 years ago he was a lot more than a guy who could do step overs lol

Obviously the second best player in the World. Definitely in the top 5 of all time. Never had much time for his diving/moaning/whinging but at least he's generous with his money for good causes.

One of the goats
One that brings actually good things to soccer competition. Messi is boring. Zlatan and Ronaldo are lovable dicks.
Yet he is called Cristina by rivals, public and everywhere else.
When he plays against any team the fans cheer Messi.
A great humanitarian and a human being.
So proud to have him on my team and one of the reasons i love football.
It will be sad when he leaves us.
Forever in the history of Real and he will surpass Raúl.
What a time to be alive.

He hasn't even surpassed Di Stefano yet.

He is not even the best of his generation. He never will be. He's much more likeable than Messi. Both continuously disappoint at World Cups though, which certainly taints their legacies.

Not really fair to judge Ronaldo on having no World Cup medals. His national team is abysmal.

The dude is a goal scoring machine, a phenomenal athlete, helped two club teams win the Champions League. Has always had an enormous amount of critics and never lets it affect him.

Messi is probably in better form at the moment, but on the whole, CR's the greatest player to grace our planet.

My favourite footballer of all time since the United days and joint first favourite athlete with Nadal. And this is from an Arsenal fan.

This man is an inspiration to me and personally one of the greatest footballer players of all time. He's dominated probably the 2 best leagues in the world, smashed through records like they don't mean anything and is on his way to become Real Madrids top goal scorer of all time.

Some of people's criticism of him in here is actually nonsense, saying that he doesn't pass is just false cause his game relies on him passing and moving cause he can't beat a man the same way he used to and he's currently has the 2nd most assists in his respective league so he doesn't mind his team mates scoring, he just likes to be on the score sheet as well. Also the 2nd leg of the champions league game shows he prioritises his teams win instead of scoring and he could have shot and maybe scored but passed to Hernandez in a better position.

My leaving thoughts basically are if Messi is the God of football then Ronaldo a man who works hard managed to take 3 Balon D'ors of him. I think that says a lot about him.

8 years ago Ronaldo scored 20 goals and assisted 20 times in the league and was nominated for world player of the year. He was also voted best player in the Premier League for that season.

Ronaldinho isn't up there with Ronaldo or Messi for me. He could have been had he not pissed away the last few years of his prime on booze and women. Turned into a lazy bastard. Could've been even better.

My Man U brotha speaks the truth.

I actually liked that Ronaldo as a player more. Though becoming an all out striker has been great for him too, I prefer the old Ronaldo player.

Messi is boring.

As someone already said, Ronaldo was engineered. A mad scientist used all the best techniques of today and created a "perfect" footballer. Messi is more natural. He's the protagonist. Like Goku. He can constantly grow because of his immeasurable talent.

In planet Earth terms, Messi is the all-encompassing Mother Nature while Ronaldo is all the machinery of the world.

He also plays for an engineered team, Real Madrid, which often likes to just buy up all the talent and force their way to the top. Remember the Schuster era when they couldn't win shit even though they had Beckham, Figo, Zidane and all those superstars? Yeah, compare that to the naturally-grown Barcelona with players from La Masia like Xavi, Iniesta, Messi.

Anyway, let's not turn this into a Barca vs Real thread.

Ronaldo is a great player. But no matter how many times he hires the engineers to give him more pretty bells and whistles, his rival on the other side is a walking miracle. He can never be Number 1. And that's probably why he acts like a douche on the field.

I've only ever heard good things about him, both as a soccer player and a person.

I recently saw a video of him and a Japanese kid attempting to speak Portuguese, and he was giving the kid all the time in the world and looking out for him.

The best part about this is it looks like it's publicity for that mouth exerciser thing and I'm surprised neither gifs nor video of it have been posted yet.

He has disappointed at two consecutive World Cups and he wasn't great at his first World Cup either. He hasn't blown audiences away at the European Cups. His individual performance at most of these matches simply wasn't great.

The national team is not nearly as bad as people like to claim. It's obviously not world class, but worse teams have achieved more, see e.g. the US at the last World Cup. Heck, Greece even won the European Cup in 2004. Still, obviously Ronaldo is only to blame for bad individual performance, not for the national team as a whole disappointing.

Messi is probably in better form at the moment, but on the whole, CR's the greatest player to grace our planet.

If we ignore World Cups and European Cups, Messi is easily the greatest player of all time. If we look at the individual statistics, one simply cannot make a case for Ronaldo over Messi. If we look at trophies, again, hard to make a case for Ronaldo. If we look at their actual play style, impossible to make the case for anyone but Messi.

I'm sorry, but I honestly don't see how one can put CR7 above Messi, let alone call him the greatest player of all time.

lol, is your avatar related to last wednesday?

Nothing happened on Wednesday. There was no Champions League match.

He is a whining cry baby, but also a great athlete and a great footballer. Too bad he plays for the worst club in football multiverse.

Amunt Valencia!

Great footballer with excellent ability and superb athleticism. Hes a goal scoring machine. Messi is No1 for sure, hes not playing football thats just magic, but Ronaldo is number two. I prefer Suarez as a player personally though.

Messi is a whining little cunt. He aint even that good.

He has only been successful in La Liga which, let's be honest, has a shitload of trash teams. Lets see how well he performs in a tougher league, like the EPL

He's a remarkable athlete, he's probably been the best athlete playing football for the past ten years or so.

I never get people that say this. Why would Messi ever leave Barca? They are one of the biggest in the world. Ronaldo started at Lisbon, if he had started at Madrid he would have never played in the EPL either. Messi for me is number 1.

As for Ronaldo as others have said, amazing player, seems to be nice off the pitch, but on it acts like a twat.

He seems like the perfectly engineered athlete. But, in the end, he has less talent in his superstar body than True Ronaldo has in one bacon strip of his majestic belly.

the fact Liga is full of shit teams doesn't mean anything, yours is just typical sport bar small talk

Messi is great and all, but can he do it on a cold rainy night in Stoke?

One of the best of all time

He's just unlucky he's around while Messi is

As a Madrid supporter I can say this is not entirely true, Ronaldo already proved himself to be the best in two different clubs. Messi needs to go to a different club and see if he can do what Ronaldo did.

Great footballer. Never thought he was that much of a douchebag off and on the pitch, he just comes across as quite immature with how he's behaved. But there's a lot worse footballers than him out there.

HGH

Wonderful athlete (and he really is that, the training he has done and does on his body and that he does in terms of general practice and whatnot is incredible), magnificent player, incredible ego and selfishness, but considering the donations he has made to charity outside of football and what he has done, he is a good guy.

Spoken like a true casual lol.

Terrible post m8.

Messi isn't a whining cunt.
He is THAT good.
He's also only been successful in the toughest competition in the world, the champions league (current all time top scorer and 3 time winner of the whole thing)
Oh and still only 27 years old lol.

The irony is that the PL has its fair share of crap teams too.

La liga teams were difficult for barca to beat then the ucl ones this year. La liga has grown stronger in the last few years, 5/6 years ago Real and Barca use to trash every team 5-0, 6-0 and barely use to lose matches. It's different now.

Tougher like the EPL?

Messi could put 10 past the current Newcastle team on his own. The vast majority of sides outside of the top 6 are absolute garbage.

Obviously, every league has them. This whole EPL=tougher thing just comes from the League having no true top team which makes it seem more balanced on the whole. When Chelsea is your most dominant team, you know you've fucked up.

Great player and seems to be a good dude as well. But he played for teams I hate so final verdict would be.
What a cunt.
