What does Xbox One have that I can't get on PC?

MS is targeting the everyday joe with xbox (or wants to anyway - you know x1 can watch tv?) they know most of them won't bother with pc and selling there is basically just more money. But it does need to always be really big with the hardcore too but I think console exclusivity is still much more important with pc just being a different thing entirely. It's a different setup for most people, price, complexity, what their friends are used to doing.

An equal playing field for multiplayer games. And laid back couch gaming. And Xbox live with friend lists and such. Also great Hulu/Netflix machines. And then there's the cool games like SSO, Forza 6 (sooon), Halo 5, etc.

Do all tvs have the same or even similar response times with default settings that a lot of people leave on?

Is everyone playing sober at home in front of the tv? Do you get more kids playing on consoles, and more distractions in the living room for a lot of people? - not sure about the more kids with next gen tbh and I'm not saying that pc people are all sober or even that it isn't less of an even playing field. But it's definitely never really all that fair anyway. But that's okay, we're just playing games and I could do with some fodder :P

But the tv response times can be a huge thing for input lag, not sure if it's exactly like 30 vs 60fps but I wouldn't be too surprised if the differences can be not as far off as you'd think.

That was true 10 years ago but not anymore. PC is on the same market now. MS is just pushing Windows10 that's why they are throwing surprisingly many exclusive onto PC. But don't expect them to keep doing that for long.

Some people don't seem to have noticed but Sony and Nintendo aren't that way and at least Sony is doing incredibly well so far. If MS wants to get back on track they need to create more and more real Exclusives that will never leave the Xbox. If they can't do this the Xbox brand will vanish or becomes a PC brand without a dedicated console.

This thread and many like it prove exactly that. There is no everyday joe gamer. You have to target the core market or you can say goodbye to your business. Only the core gamers count because they will bring the casuals in, never the other way around.

In the long-term, do you consider Xbox One a viable system distinct enough from the PC (despite sharing operating systems, etc.) to own?

No, no I don't. There's nothing super appealing on the platform at all. Hell, there's barely anything super appealing on PS4 either.

MS first party offerings aren't for me, and they've not shown anything to persuade me the xbone is a worthwhile purchase.

The only retail exclusives the console has is Forza 5 and Sunset Overdrive. Not counting the Chief collection and KI is coming to PC.

Halo 5 and Forza 6 is out this year, ReCore and Quantum Break is out next year.

No idea when Scalebound and Crackdown are coming.

I tip my hat to you Vercimber! Tbh I have pondered the same thing about the xbone as well. I concluded that for me the exclusives are slightly less appealing and there is a nagging feeling that many of them will end up on pc.

I appreciate everybody's feedback. Of course I understand that the topic is solipsistic to begin with: I have a PC with a 980ti and an Xbone with SO and FH2, and I plan on buying the almost preternaturally value-packed Rare Replay, but not everyone is so lucky, and I can understand that the "overlap" in markets is not there; I think this might change after Windows 10, though.

Finally finding time to get further into SO....this game gets awesome around this point..lol.

I find the convenience of the X1 pulls me in a lot. I too have an i7/980 rig, but sometimes I don't feel like bothering with waking it up or turning it on.

The heat/humidity here has been awful too...and my gaming rig literally heats our room...which the AC is already battling to keep it under 80 (well it was over a couple weeks...last few days have been ok).

This is awesome. Do you have one with when you first get that robot puppy, and you just grind on the wires while it annihilates anything and everything? I remember I was blown away by how many enemies + how many effects were on screen at the same time, and framerate completely solid.

Sadly I don't. Yeah, watching him obliterate everything was fun. The game really is getting better and better as I go. I'm not far in, that gif is from yesterday.

For me, the big one is Scalebound. I'm pretty reluctant to buy a system for just one game, but anyone can make me do it, it's Kamiya.
