What exactly does a "two drink minimum" entail?

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
I'm going to a comedy show next week, and yesterday I went by the club to buy my ticket. As the girl handed me my ticket, she said to me "please remember that we have a two drink minimum," a as I walked out I also noticed that they have the same posted on their future dates board.

I've heard the term in a few movies, and always interpreted it to mean two alcoholic drinks, but I've never actually been into a place that has this requirement. The problem is, I don't want to drink any alcohol that night, as I don't want to be inhibited at all for the show, since I want to enjoy it to it's fullest value.

So what happens if I don't buy any alcohol? Should I expect the waiter to hassle me? Will they try to throw me out if I refuse? If I just buy soda, will that count as a drink?

Yes, soda counts. If you don't buy two drinks, they'll just charge you for two of the cheapest option on the menu.

Normally you can buy something else like a pop or an appetizer as long as you buy two things. They do this because they typically give out a lot of free tickets to get into those comedy clubs unless it's a big name comedian.

Exactly this. If you buy an appetizer or something I doubt they'll mind if you just get water. But be prepared, if they do mind, it's fair of them to ask you to buy a couple drinks (alcoholic or not).

Hey, if you don't want to drink alcohol, that's fine. But not wanting a couple of drinks because you don't want to raise your inhibitions or lessen your enjoyment of comedy?

Knew this was about comedy club lol.

I drink, but I find most drinks at comedy clubs horrendously overpriced, so I get coke and lime.

You're thinking of inhibition in the wrong sense. I don't want my mental capacity inhibited by the digestion of alcohol.

What is this? Just increase the ticket price and make drinks optional.
Entertainers with good management or lawyers will negotiate that they get a percentage (if not all) of ticket proceeds, so this is a way to keep ticket prices low while ensuring income for the club.

Will you be posting a review thread here after the show? I really hope so.
I suppose I could.

Awesome. Another thread by Rest. This is gonna be good. Just make sure not to let the waiter sit at your table while taking your order. :)

Anyways that is how they provide cheaper tickets. Just order some food and a drink. Last time I ordered a bucket of beer for my wife and some friends. I don't usually drink alcohol so I ended up getting some food that I think was microwaved. It was nasty. I should have just taken the beer.

They really should be a little clearer. It more or less mean two menu items minimum.

I don't drink either, OP. Lots of people just get soda, no one's going to judge you.

What WILL seem ridiculous is how much it'll cost you.

How do they actually enforce this?

You can't leave without showing them 2 glasses?
If you dont they drag you up to the bar and make you buy 2 drinks?

Each table they seat will be charged a minimum of two drinks per person regardless of whether you had anything. Comedy clubs usually have lots of small tables with full service, its not like a nightclub with a mob of people trying to get a drink at the bar.

OP, just say you'd like some non alcoholic drinks and if they put up a fuss (which i doubt) say that you're on some medication right now that doesn't let you drink alcohol.

This was what I was wondering. If I order nothing, what are they going to do about it? I guess it doesn't really matter though, I'll probably just get some food.

There's nothing wrong with not wanting any alcoholic drinks, but your reasoning seems...odd to me.
Wanting to enjoy the show is odd?
