What forums did you use to frequent but are now largely empty?

Me, I went to several about 10 years ago.

Toon Zone: I haven't been to this site in years, but during the 2001-2006 era: the Justice League/Teen Titans days, it was very active and you'd get a lot of new information at Toon Zone, doesn't seem like it's that way anymore.

Mortal Kombat Online: Boy, during the MK PS2 days of 2002-2006, this place was on fire. Every time a game came out, they'd have a online chat set up with the developers of the game (known as the MK Team at the time). There'd be story theories, suggestions on how to improve the gameplay, but ever since the reboot, things have gotten so cut and dry there. Shame really, I used to love chatting with this guy on AIM about MK about 10 years ago. Hard to believe it's been that long....

VGF: My first forum. Man, this place was incredibly active in 2000. That summer was so much fun.... but yeah, I kinda dropped off the face of the earth from there.
 
I was like 9-12

IGN boards posting my friendcode to go to other people's towns.

NintendoDS forums, just a forum about the DS, Revolution, GBA and Gamecube.

All my posts on those forums are so cringeworthy and embrassing, I am glad most of my posts can't be viewed anymore. :P
 
I used to go to atease all the time, I think I have over 20,000 posts there. Still post once in a while but it's very quiet now.

When I was younger I went to the Mega Man Network and Blue Bomber Community forums a lot as well. I don't think either of those are active now.

ConceptArt.org is probably the biggest disappointment. That place was amazing in the early 00s. A lot of the really amazing concept artists of today were "born" there. Support died when they tried to monetize it, or something like that.
 
KlingonAcademy.com was the first online community I ever engaged in. Lots of neat mods for the game. Lots of viruses accidentally downloaded.

The Wizards of the Coast message boards from 2000 to 2006 were some of the best-populated and run forums I've ever seen. Tons of amazing discussion across MtG, D&D and off-topic subjects. Then WotC's terrible management killed their boards in favor of chasing MySpace community blogs, and the rest was history.
 
GameSpot, mainly System Wars. There was a time when SW rivaled NeoGaf in traffic but it's got a fraction of the userbase now. I know there are quite a few posters here that migrated over and JackSepticEye even started his Youtube career on the forum sporting his videos in his signature. Some ToU changes plus more lenient moderation plus site overhaul killed what once was. Shoutout to all past Gufu, Hype and Push members!
 
I don't want to go back to IGN to check but that and Operation Sports are the only two forums I've ever frequented outside of GAF. OS seems to be doing alright.
 
Conceptart.org was a magical place for artists from 03-09. Tons of people there to help each other learn and improve with working professionals posting alongside and interacting with complete beginners. Then the founder of the website turned out to be a shady egomaniac and the tight knit community that had been built up over years scattered to the four winds. Then social media took off in a big way, and now the online artist community is much more fragmented. There are many good qualities about the way artists communicate with each other online now, but it's still sad that something so great was just thrown away.

Yep some pretty embarrassing early teen days were spent on the System Wars forum on Gamespot...

AQ forums for those mediocre flash games (Artix Entertainment)My first forums of all places. It was quite active for the time, though nowadays I doubt anybody bothers playing their games or frequents the forums. The posts I made on their, sheesh. I looked like a massive idiot, though I was 13 at the time.

Ign boards. Me and others were part of the Anti Anti Hentai club... and lo and behold, we got all bannned. So now I am here.
 
fohguild.org - my guild's website (Fires of Heaven from EQ), was a pretty fair amount of traffic from the mmo community.

Mainly IGN. I even paid to be an insider so that I could post in the insider forums as well. Won a free game one month due to using folding@home on my PS3 as well (think it was Hot Shots Golf when it first came out).

Then I read a NPD thread and someone linked to the GAF thread about the subject, and my transition started from there
 
I used to hang out on a yugioh forum that slowly died and then disappeared into the internet aether. And then I hung out at yugiohrealms and that died. And now pojo has gone to total shit.
 
GIGA, from 2005 until 2009 when they shut the TV channel down. Ever since, it's mostly been an empty shell. The new owners of the forum have only been living off the name.

I guess the official Travian forum counts, it still somewhat active though.
 
way back in the day the first one i really frequented was manji-clan.com, which doesn't even exist now

then there's harry potter's page, and d12world.com/board

i'm on superherohype but i'm there way less often because the people there can often be dicks and the rules there suck too.
 
I use to frequent the Something Awful forums, because it was introduced to me by my husband (then boyfriend). It's not largely empty, I don't think, but it's definitely not the same and not as active as NeoGaf.

Yup, those were my first forums. Good times! They're actually what led me to GAF in the first place.
 
world-of-nintendo.com forums and then it's successor vgchat.com from '98 to now I guess. Largely dead now, but was a formative time in my life.
 
Now that I remember, how's the escapist doing?
I remember Jim Sterling making a reference to NeoGAF and migrated here.
 
Animal Crossing Community. It was a cute lil niche forum that kind of suffered trying to keep the audience WAY too child friendly. It was really fun for some time though
 
TeamXbox. A new one was started when it shut down but I only managed a post or two there. No idea what it was called.

Wow, I didn't realize GameSpot had become so small. I used to post there a lot but I just slowly stopped for some reason.

There were a couple.

We Crave Games and GamerType, but GamerType shut down and I don't think has relaunched.

Can't remember the one Plainview started... it I think is the most active at this point but seriously can't recall the name.
 
The Escapist went to shit after gamergate. The pro-goober attitude was obnoxious and toxic, promoting me to finally leave that forum behind.
 
this thread prompted me to check out my old haunt on the vnboards. i played asheron's call for about 5 years and spent a lot of time on the frostfell section. it's apparently gone now!

Lol, IGN is not empty at all. It's probably one of the most frequented message boards. Some individual boards on there are basically dead, but stuff like the Vesti, GCB, PS/Xbox/Nintendo boards, etc., are pretty highly active.

IGN/Ziff Davis bought VN Boards, and I believe this is the forum for the Asheron's Call people. It's moderately active
