What game consoles have died on you?

The 360 within weeks of having it. Died while playing Battlefield. I probably went through about 3-4 360's. Nothing else, really (knock on wood).
 
Just my 360. I lost like three of them before I got one that finally lasted more than a few months.

Every other console I've ever owned has worked perfectly right out of the box. Even my Wii U.
 
Going to start by saying I've never had a Nintendo console fail on me. This includes the NES through Wii U, and damn near every non-Virtual Boy portable they've made.

My second hand PS1 eventually had a drive failure. Launch PS2 similar issue where only some games and movies would play (MGS3 wouldn't but the Matrix and Shinobi would) then eventually died. I had 1 360 Red Ring on me. My Backwards Compatible PS3 went YLOD.

Every other system
I've had has worked fine (including a PSP, PSPgo, Vita, Genesis, and Dreamcast.
 
My version 2 Mega Drive went kaput almost 20 years ago while playing Streets of Rage (yes, I still remember the exact game I was playing at the time). The only other time I had a console fail on me was when my version 1 PS3 got yellow lighted the second I put in my MGS4 disc to try out Metal Gear Online (I put it off for so long because of my wonky internet connection). I did the hairdryer technique to get the console working and get the disc out, but I thought to myself that it would be inevitable that the console would break again, so I sent it back for a replacement which I still have to this day (though it still turns into a jet engine whenever the weather gets even a little warm).
 
My NES and Genesis both act funny, but they occasionally decide to work.

The only actual deaths I've had are a launch Xbox 360 and a launch PS3.
 
so far PS1 and PS2, my N64 is still working (but its a bit tricky now days) and I have no problems at all with my Gamecube/Wii.

I have a broken nes but it was damaged because my kid self didn't know how to take care of things
 
A couple PS2s and a Gameboy Color.

I do have an OG 360 with a broken disc drive and an OG PS3 that is really loud. My Wii is loud too. IDK what was with that generation. Also, I got a Dreamcast very late and about the only thing the thing is willing to play is Shenmue. SNES, GCN, Wii U, PSX, OG Xbox, OG Gameboy, GBA, NDS, 3DS, N3DS all still work fine.
 
Not many, really. Off the top of my head:

- I have 2 DS lites whose right hinges are broken. Both still sort of work, though. One of them, additionally, developed a red tint on the top screen 2 years after being dropped in a creek and turned on immediatly after retrieving it (which, admittedly, is my fault).

- My launch PS3 freezes after reading any blu-ray disc for about 10 minutes. Everything else (PS1 and PS2 games, CD and DVD playback) works perfectly, and I can technically play PS3 games or watch a blu-ray movie in 10 minute segments, but I consider it dead (because I own a PS1, PS2 and a PS3 slim, rendering the old PS3 redundant).

- A Famicom Disk system. All it does anymore is making an ungodly noise while trying to read a disk. I guess some belt ripped, but it's effectively dead until I look into it.

- There also was a Dreamcast with a dead GD-ROM drive, but it's since been revived after replacing the drive with a new (old) one.

- And lastly, a DSi whose right shoulder button stopped working. I sent it back to amazon.de and received a full refund, which I put toward the then soon to launch 3DS.
 
Hmm.

Regular Nintendo had a bad power cord that had to be flexed a certain way. The connector inside the console was flaky. Repaired/replaced those and it's fine now- been a great toy since 1990.

PS1. Disc drive took a crap. Repaired it with part of a door from a floppy drive (to reinforce the rail that the laser traveled on.

Sega CD. Used an NES power cord, repaired the fuse it killed.

Playstation 2- stopped reading discs 100% of the time.

Xbox 360 (two of them I think?) Red Ringed.

I think this might've been everything. I just know that up to the 360 lifespan the common ones I heard about were PS1/PS2 for drive tray and laser problems. 360 was one of the first systems that was still under warranty and I didn't need to fix myself.
 
My 20GB xbox360 (Zephyr board i believe). Started doing weird things with the Tekken 6 shadows and it died a few days after that.
 
OG PS2 drive failure.

OG PS1 worked the last time I started it, but it has to test upside down to read discs.

Phat & slim 3s and a slim 2 still going...although fatty really needs an internal dusting/clean, but I figure that might be what kills it.
 
Limited Edition MGS PS3. First console to ever die, and thats with me leaving on my PS2, Xbox, and Dreamcast on for 10+ hours straight. I babied that PS3 since it was LE and it just gave me a YLOD. Put me off from any LE console since.
 
None, so far.

I did sell my 2008 Xbox 360 (Jasper chipset) and I was told it broke shortly after, so we could technically count it?
 
PS2: Started to scratch discs and just plain ol' wouldn't work. I fixed it a few times, but it would eventually break. This happened in 2011 so I think it was time for him to rest.
Wii: Two weeks after launch it would freeze and make weird sounds, had to send it in.
Wii U: Got it at launch, but in March of this year the disc drive suddenly imploded and I had to send it in.

SAVE US CARTRIDGES
 
PS2 died on me 2-3 times due to disc read error.
360 RROD on me
PS3 had the graphics card go out
PSP Go had the internal battery die
 
I have had one console kick the bucket on me, and that was the Xbox 360. It wasn't the RROD that made this one hit the trash bin, but the disc drive failed. Stop ejecting and reading discs. It was a launch 360 though, it lasted 9 or 10 years. It was a trooper. Replaced it with the star wars 360 model that was sitting unopened for years.

Other than that, the consoles I've owned stayed in pretty good shape/lasted.
 
My day one 60 GB PS3 died a couple of weeks ago while I was playing Yakuza 5 :(
First console ever to die on me. You shall be missed.
 
PS1 was the only system that crapped out on me completely. After a few months of playing upside down, it just stopped reading discs properly, despite adjustments I tried to make to correct it.
 
The only one was my 40gb Fat PS3. The hdmi stopped working and when played through composite or VGA, sometimes the output would turn all black and white.

Two PS3s (all 160GB Slim) in over four years, that's kinda about it. I've had two Xbox 360s for a few months in two different periods, and luckily they worked fine. Never had any trouble with Nintendo consoles or handhelds in my life.
 
As far as I know, everything I still own is still in (semi) working condition.

When I reconnected my NES just a few days ago I had a hard time getting the thing to read the cartridges so I guess that one's about to bite it.
 
I guess i've been lucky, not a single console death. My slight OCD may have something to do with it though, or again just luck
 
Genesis: Power supply connector in the back broke.

PSX: CD-ROM drive went bad and eventually stopped working. Had really bad coil whine when turned off too.

Dreamcast: Side fan stopped working.

PS3: 40GB model. Blu Ray drive decided to stop working in the middle of playing Enslaved.

My 360 somehow still works. Oh, the irony.

Look up some youtube videos on how to clean the NES and the carts. Over time dirt, oxygen, and other various crap accumulate over the connectors making it difficult for the game and console to make a solid connection.
 
Only one, an Xbox 360. RRoD.

From the MSX to the PS4, not a single console died on me. The 360 broke a 22 year streak (could've been 26 this year) :(

My friends always wonder how I tend to maintain my electronic devices. I guess I'm simply lucky as I don't do anything special. I just make sure the room the console resides in is at least cleaned once every other week, and I handle these devices with care like a normal human being would.
 
Every console I've ever owned.

Sega Genesis stopped working for unknown reasons. I probably could have figured out why but I was like 9 so who knows.

PlayStation the fmv died on it and the spindle that held disks broke on a game once so discs would fly off.

PlayStation 2 died multiple times and wouldn't launch games or boot up.

Xbox 360 was definitely the worst.... Multiple red rings, multiple video issues. Went through 3 or 4 of them but had insurance since the ps2 days so just kept exchanging them. The 360 slim has performed well for 5 years for me now.

PlayStation 3, my slim stopped reading discs. I have a fat original ps3 as well but it hasn't been plugged in for years.

Xbox One still performs well although my kinect stopped working. Ms replacrd it for free but it was still annoying.
 
PS2 stopped reading dvds but was fine for games.

3 og 360s RRoD, Elite was fine.

PS4 has started auto ejecting discs when vertical. Not tried removing the rubber foot. Works fine when horizontal.

That's it.
 
A PS1, but this can be attributed to a poor soldering job.

Besides that, none that I can think of. Even my 20+ years old Famiclone and Atari 2600 were still working when I last tried them.
