• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

What game, (current or future) influenced your Next Gen console choice?

PS4 = I've always enjoyed playstation systems, even when it was fucking ps3-launch awful.

Wii U = I really wanted NSMBU. ZombieU pushed me over the edge.

Xbox One = I wanted to check out the exclusives (forza mostly, DR3 second, ryse third). The main thing that sold me was, of all things, Plants Vs Zombies: GW being on the system first. Because I couldn't convince myself that such a great/crazy idea would make it past the first system it was released on.

Upgraded my PC because... well, it needed an upgrade. I also wasn't pleased with Dark Souls 1 with DSfix (thank you durante) having framerate issues.

Halo 4. It's no longer the Halo that I loved, and I don't think the sequel will be any different.

On top of that the PS4 has superior hardware, Uncharted and the superior PS4 version of Destiny.

Other than Nintendo, I mostly enjoy 3rd parties rather than any 1st party output, so I went for the more powerful console of the two to accompany my Wii U.

Infamous: Second Son made me realise that it makes no difference whether I get a PS4 on launch day or during March, because it'll still be the same price either way, so I put my pre-order in for a system so that I could play a game months away basically.

Wii-U cause Nintendo

Xbox One cause of the exclusives (mostly DR3)

PS4 eventually, cause of the exclusives

3DS cause Nintendo

Vita cause MvC3

PC cause it never dies

Haven't gone PS4/X1 yet (heck, X1 isn't even oficially available here - only grey import) but PS4 is definitely coming first with X1 a maybe depending on what'll release for it in the next few years. Dead Rising 3 I think I'd love, but can't justify buying a X1 for. Below looks my cuppa tea but other then that, no exclusives yet that have my interest. I expect future stuff from the Borderlands/Mass Effect/Deus Ex/Dishonored/Fallout teams to pop up on whatever platform so that's covered... Destiny is still the most likely candidate for the title I'll buy a PS4 for, right now.

And I'll buy whatever platform instantly the second a new game from thatgamecompany releases.

I bought a Psp, Ps2, 3DS (Japanese) mainly for Super Robot Taisen, will buy a Ps4 when the next Ps4 title is released.

TLou and Unch2 to be honest. Need to play the games of ND. Since I knew I would bought eventually, better sooner than later so I can also enjoy better multiplatforms.

Out:
-------
Ryse
Killer Instinct
Garden Warfare
Titanfall
Dead Rising 3
Peggle 2

Announced:
------------------------
The Witcher 3
Kinect Sports Rivals
The Division
Quantum Break
Sunset Overdrive
Destiny
Fable/Halo/Gears

The two genres I need addressed are a good RPG and a good dance game (Just Dance is crap).

So far most of the games that I wanted have turned out to be better than I expected. Battlefield and Forza were too boring for me. NFS Rivals was a nice surprise though. I was hoping that next-gen would get me back into playing games every day and it has. Also probably helps that my console is on every day to watch TV now.

It had to be PS4 for me, even if it was more expensive that Xbox One I would have gone with them. The reasons are as follows:

Much better, more varied exclusives
Better indie development scene
Prefer the controller (always have preferred Sony's Dual Shocks and this one has appeased may of the haters)
PlayStation Plus
Better Multiplatform versions
Better philosophy

Uncharted 4 prettttttttyyyy much guaranteed that I will buy a PS4. There's nothing like that for Xbone.

Nintendo Land was my main selling point of the wii u and i played the shit out of it launch day with my friends. As for the other systems i wont buy a ps4 till kingdom hearts 3 releases i can put off playing ps4 and other next gen exclusives till then.

PS4: Battlefield 4

Xbone: Killer Instinct and Dead Rising 3

I just started with DR3 after the DD5.1 patch and I love it. Really enjoying both systems for now.

Smash, Mario Kart, Bayonetta, W101, Pikmin, X, SM3DW, Zelda, inFamous, Arkham Knight, GGXrd, an eventual P6, Uncharted

The Wii U-PS4 combo, essentially.

None actually. I was gonna wait a couple years when the price dropped on both....

though to be quite honest, I kinda wanted Xbox one initially because of Dead rising 3 and Titanfall.

I ended up getting a few ps4s to resell, and decided to keep one. I figured I can live without dead rising 3, and I decided I would get titanfall on PC, and everything else I can get on PS4.

I'm happy with it.

halo/forza/horizon

and now titanfall in that mix

Sony's first party games. Completely unmatched.

Killzone,
Uncharted,
Infamous,
Gran Turismo,
LittleBigPlanet

it goes on...

PS4. I like Sony's first party offerings, and love the niche Japanese games, and of course smaller indie games. There is no one specific game though.

Sony's 1st party games in general

Same here, and the indies, horror games, and the better performing multiplatform titles to some extent. I also bought the PS4 at launch, because I knew it would be hard to get for months, and I didn't want to be left out. KZ:SF, Resogun, Tomb Raider and the rest have certainly offered me enough entertainment, more than any launch before actually.
