God of War 3

People not saying Just Cause 2 clearly haven't played Just Cause 2.

Cause the answer is Just Cause 2.

Just Cause 2 followed by Skyrim. The amazing thing about Just Cause 2's mountains is how truly big they feel, even more than Skyrim. Just stand at the bottom of a mountain and drive up and its incredible the sense of scale they achieve with that engine.

I really wish more games used whatever engine Just Cause 2 uses, or at least how they're able to create environments with actual scale. My only problem with some of the mountains in Skyrim is how they sometimes feel plopped down without a gradual change in elevation along the base.

We were talking about this in a another thread a couple months ago. That engine and an RPG..holy shitballs.

Skyrim, definitely. I'm partial to the Storm Peaks in wow though. They aren't very graphically impressive but that entire zone is put together very, very well. Even down to the way the snow is on the mountains. The fall pattern is very realistic.

This. The mountains in Just Cause 2 looked great and were such a vital part of the game. They had to make them massive to allow them to be constant anchor points in the hookshot parachute traversal system. Traversal would have been boring with flat surroundings. The mountains in Skyrim were also great, especially the weather effects such as the fog, but they mostly felt like a backdrop.

My favourite mountains are probably those in 1080 Snowboarding. They felt so real and steep, and it was awesome how well various surfaces affected the controls.

It's hard to beat Skyrim here, especially considering you can actually climb the mountains that your seeing. Any game in which the mountains are only seen at a distance is hard to consider here because they're never subject to close inspection.
