What game has the most satisfying experience/ending?

SKIES OF ARCADIA

- Never once have I felt more satisified after beating a game, the story, characters, everything was just so awesome and well put together at the end.

wait is the quality of storytelling based on complexity?
Sort of like the quality of a control interface being based on the number of buttons/sticks/triggers. ;)

Anyway, Ico's ending was nothing special... a fairly standard reversal of roles and not much else. The experience leading up to that point however was stunning.

I don't mind a simple story, but I was expecting something satisfying at the end and I was left with "wtf is this?"

Well I can respect that, but your specific criticism seemed to be leveled at the fact that you can summarize the storyline simply... which is, by my estimations, a pretty poor way to judge a storyline

Your thinly veiled attempt at a slight aside, your implication is precisely right. But probably not for the reason you think - complexity is based on many things, and naturally if you have less buttons at your disposal you do limit your possibilities. And of course you can go overboard and have too much, but none of the current controllers meet that criteria. Doesn't mean you can't make a great AND complex game with your limitations, though.

I really liked the ending of Metal Gear Solid 1, and Silent Hill 1. I found both to be really fun and enjoyable to take in.

It was nice to see that
Drachma finally found peace at the end of his life. :)

Well, less buttons inhibits a certain type of possible interface... but fortunately controllers are starting progress past that. :P

I was a bit hasty in my capitalizing on your reply tho... a better response would propably have been "sort of like depth of gameplay being based on interface complexity".

are you referring to the Female Dark Side ending?

because killing carth is probably the most satisfying thing EVER

Didnt know you could do that, awesome.maybe Ill replay KOTOR as a female :P

MGS3 was just too good, with the salute, the highlighting with "The sons of Big Boss are born" which chills down my spine then on top of that they had to add some more Ocelot ownage after the credits.

Didn't think of SOTC, but that game had an amazing ending too. Loved it! Simple yet beautiful and elegant story!

I did not, SOTC is a prequel right? If you create a prequel that is only understood by people who played the sequel, well, it's crappy storytelling
Its a spiritual prequel, it simply shares some visual and story ques with Ico. It doesn't actually take place before the game.
I personally loved the story,
A young man loses his lover, is so consumed by grief that he breaks the laws of his people and religion by stealing a sacred artifact in order to gain access to power that can bring her back to life. He risks and losses everything for this selfish goal.
The ending was satisfying from a story telling persective because it follows through on it's themes and doesn't cop out to give an everybody lives happily ever after ending, and from a gameplay perspective it was also satisfying since it gave you a newgame +, with all your items, stamina and health carried over. Allowing you to roam around the vast landscape finding all the little easter eggs and secrets that were put in by the dev team.

XENOSAGA EPISODE III

Then MGS3.

What he said... I really didn't expect them to tie up Xenosaga so well. Granted it doesn't 'end' but the way everything was closed up was perfect.

MGS3 was incredible because you finally stopped seeing Big Boss as an enemy, something I wouldn't have expected back when I played MGS1 or 2.

Metal Gear Solid 3-Even though some questions still need to be answered. I felt after the ending of MGS3, that the MGS series could end with 3 and I would be happy.

Final Fantasy X-It was beautiful.

Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy IX
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Lunar: Silver Star Story
Lunar 2: Eternal Blue
Super Mario RPG
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
Ico
Shadow of the Collossus
Star Fox 64

...all had great endings. With MGS3 being the best, of course.

MGS3 is tops. MGS1 at the time was also incredible. MGS2 is good. But working on down

Shenmue - I loved the build up and feeling of leaving this small town for a greater purpose. Nailed it.
Shenmue 2 - The epilogue, disc 4.
Ico - Don't get the vast ammounts of SotC love. Ico's story and ending were better.
FFX - Solid well-done ending
DMC1 - Great action game with a real satisfying ending.

Planescape: Torment.

What can change the nature of a man?

Utterly beautiful ending (well, the one where he fuses with his mortality). TNO renouncing his immortality and knowing very well the eternal consequences of that. It wasn't a happy ending, but there was a sense of relief with it. Eternal damnation removing a large burden from his shoulders. Heh.

I notice the sad/melancholy endings are always listed in these types of threads.

I'm with _leech_ for Silent Hill 2's Water ending.

Hmm... For me I would like to personally mention Fire Emblem.

The pairings, and the results!

It's one of the main reasons for playing it through to the end!

I want another FE that incorporates the most famous system of Genealogy of the Holy War... the creation of
super children and having them take revenge
was awesome.

Damn that FE:PoR! You sold me short on the ending! Where are my pairings?! What the heck happens to all of my favourite units?! It's highly unlikely that all of my favourite characters will be mentioned in FE:GoD...
I can only hope that the more awesome characters of FE:GoD will make me forgot about them.

Sigh...

I don't think any ending can top MGS3. It just blew everything else that I've seen up to that point, it turned harsh critics of that game into lovers. Ok maybe not.

But,yeah, I'd have to say KOTOR, MGS3, and Halo: Combat Evolved rank among my favorites.

EDIT- Forgot SotC. :P

Everybody is loving MGS3's ending so much...

Let me know if I am correct:
Volgin fired the Davey Crockets, Kruschev blamed the Americans, and Americans prove their innosence by killing the Boss. And she is the greatest soldier alive.

Am I right so far?

QFT

Why are people saying Shenmue II? I liked it too...until the end! When the game goes "OMG, WHAT'S THIS OVER HERE?? FIND OUT IN SHENMUE III!!!" only you don't because Shenmue III never comes out because Sega's a bunch of whores.

Full Throttle had a pretty awesome ending, though.
