NES - SMB, The Legend of Zelda. I loved Zelda. I was the first kid at my school to find the
Magic Sword
in the
Graveyard
. I was loved.

SNES - Super Mario EFFING World!! This was the first console I got at launch (I was seven at the time), and I was sooooooo excited. I still remember walking through the mall with it, being careful not to slip on the foam as it seethed out of my mouth. I was an intense seven year old.

Gameboy - My mom surprised me with this, and bought Super Mario Land 2: The Six Golden Coins (or whatever) with it. I loved it a lot... But the first game that I was REALLY excited for, and would have wanted a GB for, was Link's Awakening. It's still my favorite 2D Zelda, babayyyyy.

N64 - On launch day for Super Mario 64. Sure as hell not for Pilotwings. zzzzz.

Playstation - Final Fantasy VII. It was my first RPG, and I didn't realize that equipable items were multi-use. Like, I thought you use them once in battle, and they're gone, like potions. I beat the entire game with the default weapons!

Gameboy Color - Just as a general upgrade from my original GB.

Gamecube - Wow. Good question. My first game was SSB:M, but I'm sure those early realistic Zelda demo vids had some sway.

Xbox - Halo 2. Fuck. Yeah.

Nintendo DS - Mario Kart DS, but I bought it before it came out and rocked some Kirby Canvas Curse. Love both those games!

Wii - Twilight Princess. Beat it, got bored with the system, sold it so I could help fund my purchase of a...

Xbox 360 - HALO 3. And GTA IV to a lesser extent.

IN THE FUTURE: I'll probably get a Wii again someday. Probably not for Mario Galaxy, definitely not for Smash Bros., but something, someday, has got to impress me. I'm hoping it'll be a real waggle-centric Zelda.

I had a SNES and an N64 back in the days, which I got for all the general Nintendo stuff. I briefly had a GameCube, continuing that tradition. Then nothing for years.

I bought my PS3 while in HK because 1) I had never been in more need of retail therapy in my life and 2) it was literally 45% of the UK price.

I figured I wanted FF and MGS and all that. I've only bought 3 games all year though, and one of which is Bioshock for my brothers 360. Heopfully there'll be more to do with it soon enough.

I can't remember for which games I picked up handhelds.

SNES: Didn't matter to me since it was the first console I actually owned myself.

Genesis: All about Sonic.

Game Gear: Believe it or not, I actually owned one of these things. My parents seemed to think it was better than a Gameboy or something. In my years of owning this colossal disappointment (I STILL own it), I only have Sonic 2, Aladdin, a crummy baseball game, and a blackjack game. As a fan of the Genesis Sonics, I knew even then that GG Sonic 2 was a crappy imitation that was way too cheaply difficult. The rest of the crap I owned was shovelware and I knew it even then.

N64: Super Mario 64 was the immediate one to get it for. The two upcoming games I was excited for were Ocarina of Time and Earthbound 64. My childhood ended the day Earthbound 64 was canceled.

GC: Smash Bros and Super Mario 128 (before we learned it was Sunshine, though I DID like Sunshine) were the big ones.

PS2: All kinds of stuff. I didn't get a PS2 until late in its lifespan, so there was a metric ton of stuff I wanted.

PSP: The Mega Man remakes. Those, Ratchet, and Loco Roco are still the only games I actually like on that system. Castlevania will change that, though.

Gameboy: Lots of stuff. Mario and Zelda were, as always with Nintendo, the big ones to look for, though.

GBA: Metroid, Kirby, Castlevania...plenty of games, really.

DS: I was skeptical, I admit it. I think it was Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time that convinced me to get it, though. Ironically, I found that one rather mediocre. Instead, I fell in love with the bundled-in copy of Mario Kart.

Wii: Zelda, obviously. Really, though, there was a lot to look forward to with this one. Smash Bros, Mario Galaxy, Metroid...really, the same franchises I've been enjoying for almost eighteen years now, but damn can they still impress.

360: Okay, so I don't actually own this one yet. But when I do, I'll be enjoying Gears, Halo 3, Geometry Wars, Lost Planet, and various others. I also have a morbid desire to try the next-gen Sonic. THAT will kill my childhood memories.

PS2 for DOA2: Hardcore.

N64 for Super Mario 64.

PS1 for Tekken 2 and Street Fighter Alpha 2.

3DO for Super Street Fighter II: Turbo.

DS for Super Mario 64: DS

Xbox for Halo and JSRF.

Bolded ones are the most important ones I can remember.

SNES - Oh great, another list thread
Sega Saturn - Does anyone actually read through each post?
Playstation - Oh ok then.. Ridge Racer
Dreamcast - The online stuff was appealing
PS2 - GTA was the one that pushed me over the edge
Xbox - That dancing robot demo
Xbox 360 - Kameo - honest.
PS3 - GTFO
PSP - Gran Turismo Portable. Lying fucks.
DS - It reminded me of the old Game N Watch handhelds. Plus Wario Ware touched.

Atari 2600 - Pac-man and Frogger

NES - I was just tired of being the only kid without one

SNES - Actraiser and UN Squadron, knew Final Fantasy was coming

Genesis - X-men game

Xbox360 - Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey and Mass Effect

snap, forgot I bought a Dreamcast, actually twice

import Dreamcast - Sonic and Godzilla (no, i'm serious, even got the godzilla VMU)

US Dreamcast - Soul Calibur

Does anyone ever read and consider these things or is it just a huge list for no particular reason?

Oh well.

First two don't really count since they were bought for me:
NES - not my decision, came with Ice Climber though
Amiga 500 - dad wanted one for music programs (that he used about 5 times ever)

First self-bought, chronologically:
Playstation - Soul Blade (and, partly, Street Fighter Alpha 2)
Dreamcast - Soul Calibur
Neo-Geo Pocket Color - SNK vs Capcom Match of the Millennium
Playstation 2 - future promise, got Dead or Alive 2 and Timesplitters two weeks after launch to tide me over
Saturn - to play a bunch of games I got in Japan
Gameboy Advance - Castlevania: Circle of the Moon
Xbox - Morrowind
Gamecube - Super Smash Bros Melee
SNES - Super Metroid and Super Castlevania IV
Neo-Geo - only perfect versions of Samurai Shodown 2, KOF98 and Real Bout Special (at the time)
PSP - Lumines
DS - Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Xbox 360 - Oblivion
Playstation 3 - Virtua Fighter 5

This is a tough one, sometimes I buy a console as soon as there is an interesting game, even though whatever game that made me decide to purchase the system isn't due out for ages. Anyway, the games I picked up my systems for are;

Mega Drive- Sonic the Hedgehog
SNES- Super Mario World
PS1- Final Fantasy VII
N64- Ocarina of Time
PS2- Metal Gear Solid 2
Gamecube- Super Mario Sunshine
Xbox- Fable
PS3- Metal Gear Solid 4

Actually looking at it, it's only the three Playstations that I ended up jumping in before those killer titles were released. Tomb Raider convinced me to jump into PS1, Devil May Cry got me onto PS2 and I have no earthly clue why I bought a PS3, other than the fact that I could afford it. Oh and I might have thought Heavenly Sword was coming in March.

Edit: Forgot my DS, NSMB and Brain Training.

NES was given to me when I was 3. I never asked for it mostly because I didn't know it existed. Came with Mario and Duck Hunt Combo.

Genesis - sonic 2
SNES - mario world
GameGear - Sonic 2
N64 - Mario 64
PSX- don't remember
dreamcast - Sonic Adventure, and the idea behind Shenmue at the time

after that I just started getting consoles cause I was a gamer. Didn't matter what the games at the time were I knew there would eventually be games worth it.

Well first system I ever bought myself was a PS2, but that was after the one I'd aquired from my sister died and I didn't want to give it up. I hadn't bought any system going back to the Atari.

The first system I bought for a specific game was the DS, and that was for Nintendogs, but I also got advanced wars: DS along with it.

The gamecube I got cause it was cheap and came with mario sunshine.

I got my PSP as a gift.

The Wii I got cause it was there in stock. But I had wanted Elebits so I guess you can say that.

I'll be getting the 360 for Ace Combat 6.

Nintendo 64 - I saw my cousin playing Super Mario 64 & Goldeneye, enough said.
Dreamcast - Really the combination of all those arcade games. Soul Calibur, Crazy Taxi, House of the Dead 2, etc.
GameCube - It was a Nintendo system so I would get it anyway but playing the next Mario & Zelda was the main reasons
PlayStation 2 - The GameCube was for Nintendo games, the PS2 was for all the 3rd party games it has.
GameBoy Advance - Metroid Fusion
Nintendo DS - Super Mario 64 DS, I simply HAD to see the new content no matter what.

Predictions:
Nintendo Wii - Super Smash Bros Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy & Metroid Prime 3 Corruption
Xbox 360 - Games like Bioshock, Resident Evil 5, Soul Calibur IV, Assassin's Creed. Games not on the Wii basically.

SNES - Super Mario World/Super Mario Allstars
Nintendo 64 - Super Mario 64
Gamecube - Super Smash Bros. Melee
Wii - Super Smash Bros. Brawl/Galaxy

NES - Gift
MegaDrive - Phantasy Star II
Super Famicom - Super Mario World, Zelda III and Chô Makaimura
PS - Toshinden and Tekken
GBA - Castlevania: Circle of the Moon and Dragon Warriors III (GBC)
PS2 - FFX
GameCube - Metroid Prime 1/2, Zelda WW and Fire Emblem
DS - Trauma Center and Phoenix Wright
X360 - Dead Rising, Blue Dragon, BioShock and Lost Odyssey
