fps happened to light gun games. they got better for it.

No, the FPS did not subsume or evolve the proper light gun game since FPS games never offer what the best light gun games do, and that is a focus on actual shooting skill. FPS games did, however, take everything they wanted from light gun games and then apply them generously to a different experience that also involves shooting.

ugh that picture of the Wii U lightgun shell reminded me how Nintendo has no idea how people actually hold guns in terms of handed-ness. If you're right handed, you'll control movement with your left thumb, but that one has you use your right if you want to hold a gun how you would if you're right handed. You'd have to hold the gun left handed to use the analog stick with your left hand. I guess it doesn't matter that much if there isn't any movement (i.e. a proper lightgun shooter), but if it's used for anything less linear it'd be a mess.
