What happened to PS2 games on PS4?

Didn't we just have this thread?

As everyone has already said, they take a while to code and get ready for release. I wouldn't count on them getting any faster...

P.S. Suikoden 5 please.

This is all I really want, since FFXII is apparently getting a remaster. Konami pls...

Apparently it takes months to code trophies. Sony probably ran out of first wave games, and the games they started working on after #PS2PS4 are still being coded.

And this is so effing shitty. Bet my ass it's an requirement meaning many games are dead

Suikoden series
Shadow Hearts series
MegaTen series
.Hack series
Xenosaga series

Well actually fuck that list, everything not first party is probably fucking dead.
I don't give 2 fucking shits about trophies, I just want to stupidly buy games I already own disc versions of and can probably emulate way better myself....but I still stupidly want to buy them on a PS4 and play again for some fucking stupid insane reason.

Yeah one more thing, $50 to anyone that can go to Universal Japan and kick them into the shin and make them sell the IP to anyone else that is willing to do anything with it.

It'll be the PC version if they do.

Hopefully.

Most of those games you listed are also long RPG's, which means the long process for the trophies would only take much longer. Honestly surprised we got Dark Cloud and Rogue Galaxy, wonder how long it took them to implement it in those games.

Sony abandoned it of course. Just like they abandoned the poor Vita.
Papa Sony went to the store for cigarettes and never came back.

Yepp, why they shouldn't have that as an requirement but instead use it as a price "hike".

Meh wouldn't say they abandoned it. But probably overestimated how many would be able to play ball straight away. If they even care about the ball that is.

I was being sarcastic >.>

My bad, my bad. Still I'll find you and we'll have to duel to the death or something....I suggest we meet up in 58 years, behind Wendy's 47th ever shop made in Alaska, and settle it with fista cuffs.

Winner gets a 4 dollar meal deal and some pants without urine stains.

I'm guessing disappointing sales. I doubt that many people are willing to pay again for games that they already own in the ecosystem.

Over priced, games don't run well imo (frame rate issues) in all the games I tried.

They also didn't do cross play so I think a lot of people are soured on it.

I guess I'm a broken record and I'm probably the only one of very few (if any) on this forum who are in this situation, but it was never brought to Japan.

I'm guessing so as well. The price of entry is crazy, I can't imagine many people jumping in at $15 per for the big names. GTA games have been put on sale almost as frequently as the Last Tinker.

I would have bought several but the resolution is pitiful.

Adding trophies based upon hours played would of been a lot easier than making them attached to specific events in the game. All you would need to do is adjust the hour requirement.

I'm personally glad Sony didn't listen to the sentiment to not include trophies. They've given some of these games a new life for me. I would never go through the satisfaction of completing Dark Chronicle to true completion without them.

That said, the release frequency has dropped off a cliff. I think it's been a month since Dark Chronicle released and there's been nothing since. If they knew this was going to happen, they should have spaced the releases out better.

I just want this game to come to Ps4. :(

Would you like SFAA with FSAA?

I know the PS2 had a big library of games but I'd be happy if they just picked say a 100 titles from PS2 in the next few years while this gen is going mostly the JRPGs from PS2 with trophies. Would be fabulous. I've enjoyed going through Arc Twilight of the Spirits with trophy support and upres.

Dark Cloud 1 and 2 were fantastic playing through them again.

I really want FF12 Zodiac edition next. Although we might be seeing a remaster of that sometime soon (hopefully).

I'd imagine licensing some PS2 games will prevent them from ever being possible, not sure many people understand that though.

They were obviously going to make a big announcement at PSX at one point but then their plans leaked and the backlash hit, so they finally realised it was a bad idea. So yeah, the end result was a pretty quiet push.

Sony really did botch PS2 Classics though, easily the biggest one they've made in a while. I didn't expect disc support like some of the dreamers around here but still, the lack of cross-buy or even a discount killed their entire Classics line to me. No point buying those games for collection purposes if they're just going to be thrown away at the start of each gen. May as well either find original copies or pirate them instead.

If it were up to me, I would've come up with two different Classics lines. First there's just PS2 Classics, which would've been barebones versions with barely any improvements (maybe some AA) and cross-buy with the PS3's PS2 Classics. Then PS2 Classics+ with the trophies, framerate/graphical improvements and a discount if you own the barebones version.

or the better theory for psx is that they wanted to bring kojima out and say they have signed him up and konami stopped it... they never really hyped up ps2 compatibility because they most likely knew there would be backlash

I hope ps2 emulation is not as laggy as ps1 could be on PS3. There are PS2 games I want to buy but not if I have to play them in a worse condition gameplay wise than they were originally.

There were like 2 frames of lag from what I recall. Not too bad for emulation.

Which games were released that are also on PS3?
Looks like San Andreas is the one with the most sold. *GASPS* ! BUT PEOPLE ALREADY OWN THAT WHY WOULD THEY BUY THAT AGAIN??

It's been what, since Dark Cloud 2 released, a fucking month? 16 games out since it was announced in December. I'd say we're probably due for another one pretty soon. It's only been 3 months though... That's already way faster than Nintendo's pathetic drip feed.

What did you try exactly that didn't run well? Everything I have played thus far has run fine. If $15 max is overpriced to you (with many being 10 or less and often discounted) then I don't know how to help you. You're probably just fishing for shit to complain about at this point.

Gaf hyped it up.

And this is the heart of the problem. Typical bullshit from people not keeping their expectations in check.

Screw trophies. I'm not a fan of achievements or trophies.

Shame they're holding back tons of possible games.

You really think Trophies are the only reason? Really? SPOILER: They are doing more than just adding trophies. Not only the porting job but getting the permission from the IP owners is part of the it.

Remember when they asked people on twitter what games they wanted? That wasn't that long ago. Sony is still doing PS2 classics on PS4 but it's no fucking priority. Why should it be? It seems like they have a very small team (maybe less than 10 people) actually working on these. So it's going to take some time.

All the star wars games have jutter and freezes in frame rates. Not sure about other games.

If you have them. pod racer, first track. near the finish line the frame rate is cut down for 4 to 5 secons. maybe longer. Star wars star fighter, on the first open area. When a few ships and things are on screen the jutter and smooth frame rate is gone until you get those objects off the screen. Very easy to tell when moving left or right especially with the smooth look and higher IQ. disappointing for sure.
