What happened to the NBA Street series?

I never understood why Nintendo let them put Mario/Luigi/Peach in V3. Not only do they just look horribly out of place and super creepy, Peach's model is beyond god awful.

nfl street always seemed kind of dumb, street football isn't really a thing

comparatively, streetball/and1 culture goes hand in hand with an over-the-top arcadey videogame. hell shit like slamball (full contact basketball with trampolines) was basically a realistic approximation of an nba street game anyway. ea fucked up massively in killing the series.

The SSX and NBA Street games are the only sports games I actually like. I played this shit out of 1 and 2. Never got 3. HC was straight garbage. Terrible game.

I want a next gen version of Vol 2 with an updated roster. God damn that would be good.

Edit

It's nice reading through this thread and seeing how everyone else LOVED Vol 2. Holy hell that game was my shit when I was a kid. My brother and I tore it up. EA needs to bring it back and not fuck it up.

It was the Gamecube days. Nintendo was desperate. Which means we will probably see more of that soon on Wii U.

I bought V3 on Gamecube and it was a blast. It was hilarious playing with Nintendo characters against NBA superstars. Also Peach was hawt.

And I remember the character creator or story mode was really good for its time. You could wear bling and have your last name on the back of your jersey, and play at different courts.

I don't get it, I love NBA Street 1, 2 and 3. Homecourt wasn't even that bad, just lacking in features like most early next gen games. Sure none of the games had the sense of style 2 had, but they were all good games!
Homecourt ran at 30fps, which was a pretty dumb decision, IMHO.

I wish EA could go back to NBA & NFL Street 2 and pick up from there. I'll even settle for NBA Street 3 in the case of that series and Homecourt was aight.

NFL Street 3 was horrible and NFL Tour poured dirt on the series' grave.

Has anyone played this game lately?

This is the newest, last Midway "blitz like" Blitz game ever created. I'm playing this on my CFW PS3 at 720p. I am appalled by how good this game looks 10 years later.

Not only does EA lose the license to NFL in 2014, but that also means that there is a chance, (if Neatherrealm Studios cares), that the old Midway Blitz team could make another Blitz game using the current roster. Not likely though.

Blitz already got rebooted not even 2 years ago. The gameplay in it is pretty good. I have no idea why you think theyd make a $60 version again when the $15 one sold poorly despite being quite good

the problem with an NFL game in an arcade setting is that football typically isn't played as a pick up game. when you think of football, you think of the stadiums, etc.

basketball is very popular on the court or as a pick up game at your local park or rec center.

I've heard this reasoning before so it wouldn't surprise me if this is why something like Blitz was never all that popular and NBA Street was (before they tried to make it realistic with the abomination known as Homeco0urt)

NFL Blitz has gotten slower and more balanced over time, which put the latest release in a weird no-mans land between sim and arcade. Taking out the late hits really highlighted that fact. I went back and played the original and it's a completely different game.

But NBA Jam on XBLA/PSN was exactly the same game as people remember, with some god tier commentary.

I guess it's time to start posting here...

Using the Dolphin emulator myself and Mazzocchi over at the NLSC updated NBA Street Vol. 2 for Gamecube. I hex edited the rosters to the current NBA, he did all the logos and uniform updates.

It's not perfect, the project lost steam after some issues with updating player faces (only a few have been done). Basically all players with the same skintone share the same arm/leg texture, so even though I matched everyone in the game to the current NBA based on hair style, I or someone else needs to do the same but also accounting for skintone. The plan was to HD up the courts and other graphics as well....but then 2K14 happened, so yea. I'm sure we'll return to it later in the season.

BTW, thanks for breaking me out of the lurker shell.

Someone give this man ()ne Zillion Dollars!

That's not a Blitz game, that's EA's failure to recapture a classic series. So I disregard it's existence.
