What If Aladdin was released in 2015?

Oh man, this reminds me of when we were watching the movie on deployment and we got to the part where he says this(I think he actually says it a few times), and one of our more redneck-y guys overheard it, to which he immediately goes "WHAT DID HE JUST SAY!". I've never seen some one turn around from what he was doing so fast, he was so shocked, he probably thought Disney was condoning terrorism or some shit.

And that, my friends, is the world we live in

Pocahontas came out in 2009 and it's the highest-grossing film of all time so I guess it would only do better.

If it was released today Fox would freak out at the Allah references and kids would say 'It's alright but Frozen is better'.

but the movie features the brown people and in this climate it would not have been released because of the brown people

Jasmine is the ultimate Disney Princess

animated films would be much better till now. dreamworks in particular wouldn't know what to do without aladdin providing the blueprint for the shallow pop culture reference infested animated film. maybe they'd have made better films.

Now I have the urge to watch Aladdin. What a awesome movie with awesome music. That Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle ending was beautiful.

Jasmine is still the hottest disney princess.

Very much yes.

The Blu-Ray is coming out this year, I wonder how sales will be. Then again, we did get it on DVD several years ago with no controversy to my memory. Aladdin is my favorite Disney movie (that isn't from Pixar). Also, I really love how the logo was done:

Whatever it would turn into online from social justice warriors trying to find a hot topic to get in arms about it wouldn't be the same Aladdin without Robin Williams if it came out now :(

with all the stuff going on the middle east it very likely wouldn't sell nearly as much.

There was a lot going on in the Middle East in 1992 as well, the only real difference is we hadn't been hit with a major terrorist attack yet.

Its Arabia, he's Muslim and during that time there was tension in the world but not as much as there is now, but I believe it would be received relatively the same from Muslim Audiences not sure about non Muslims who have now grown to believe anything from Arab world is evil unfortunately. A shame as there lots of incredible stories from Arabia which should be made into movies.

I do remember in a Robin Williams interview where he said specifically that Alladin was a Muslim and the Genie was a Jew, there were Hebrew sayings inside (when he squeezed alladins cheeks and referred to Alladin with affection using Hebrew) it was to show friendship between the two.

Even in 1993, some people accused Aladdin of racist lyrics in a song.

So yeah, I'm not sure how people would view the movie if it were released today in 2015.

...if there was a point to be made the shitty writing in the articles totally botched the delivery. They talk about arabs being offended and go right into talking about Iraq and Iran...good one breh.

even then the claim of racism is a stretch i thought Agrabah was fictional...he's just saying he's from the slums.

On what grounds?

Feature film animation studios aren't investing in 2D Animation for a reason.

Look at all the traction Frozen got because of Let it Go. Now consider a Disney movie with much better music combined with the internet and other modern means to get the word out. I mean it's already happened with Aladdin to some extent because it's a classic, but if it were new....I think it would be more gigantic.

It could be the exact same movie and half the Internet would throw a fit about it being so popular and claim that the Disney cartoons from their childhood were better.

The worst part is we wouldn't get the dope ass video games for SNES and Genesis. Instead we'd get a bejeweled clone starring Abu

Yeah, because the ME was so peaceful back in 1992....apart from Iraq still smouldering after Desert Storm and the Shi'a uprising there. And the Intifada in Palestine. And Hezbollah in Lebanon. And a nascent Al Qa'ida, mega pissed at American troops in Saudi, preparing to bomb the WTC.
