How does it stay on?
Can you put just the top half on? Wondering if you'd be able to use it with the Circle Pad Pro XL.

What if the world was made of pudding.
You raise interesting points about the viability of wiimote/nunchuk controls. I really like the formula in Metroid Blast, but one change would have to be made -- the ability to turn quicker, MUCH quicker. But I think it could be done. It's true you'd trade off some of the tactile quality of the stylus controls -- whipping around the camera and pinning down targets with the reticule felt like frantically jabbing a sword, the stylus providing KMB-like levels of twitch-action. But I think wiimote/nunchuk could still work well, with tweaking to the scheme in Metroid Blast.Wait, the main point would be for adding Wiimote control option? Then I dunno. I love Wiimote for first and third person aiming, and it would certainly work great for the flying sections. But I don't see how it would be a viable control option at all for ground stuff Kid Icarus, at least on higher difficulties and multiplayer. I feel like most of the people who complained about the controls in the game are the same people who just want to use the 360 controller for everything anyway so it wouldn't matter (I realize there are legitimate complaints about hand cramps and whatnot though). Just doesn't seem like a useful use of resources
I would still buy it if it existed just because it's my favorite game I've played in years, and an HD version would be wonderful, but yeah, seems kinda pointless
I would eat the world. What if the world was made of pudding.
So would I! But there's probably a slightly better chance of a KIU remake, than of the world turning to pudding, so can't hurt to discuss whether it'd be worthwhile!I would eat the world.
I really like the idea of bringing RER's Raid mode to Kid Icarus. You get all these cool weapons -- and craft even cooler ones -- yet the only place you can show them off to friends is in competitive deathmatch. If there was a Raid mode where you could team up with buddies and slay monsters together while advancing to the end of a level, they could appreciate your skill and loot without having to worry about other players out for blood.
That'd be more like a Horde mode, but yes, that'd be awesome, too! What I was thinking of, though, was more along the lines of an actual level, more like the ground portion of, say, Chapter 3. Only you'd bring a buddy along in online or local splitscreen co-op, and you'd each be sporting your own gear, and you'd kill baddies and find keys and earn loot as you headed for the boss.So the second half of Chaos Vortex but with another human dude?
Yes.
Trust me, a true sequel would be probably my No. 1 Most Wanted Anything in Videogames, but Sakurai's tied up with two Smash Bros. games. A remake, on the other hand, could be done by just about anyone, and there's good reason for it -- one of the best games ever, given an audiovisual overhaul, and controls that work for everyone, eliminating the one real barrier people have come up against (although I'm fine with the 3DS controls, personally). Why does it have to be a remake? I would buy an all-new Kid Icarus Wii U game though. Uprising was good and I'd like to see what the series could accomplish on better hardware and with better controls.
Good. At least to me, and for what I was looking for. Is aluminum, so while it may not be as strong as carbon or even the clear shells; it at least protects from other scratches and stuff. Though, I bought it more as a cosmetic addition; raher than to protect it.How is the quality?
#1. Pressure; you just snap it. It has felt on the inside, so teh added pressure doens't damage/scratch the unit.(#1)How does it stay on?
(#2)Can you put just the top half on? Wondering if you'd be able to use it with the Circle Pad Pro XL.
He did, which is precisely why I'm not expecting a sequel anytime soon.Balloon Trip on NintendoLand proved to me that a Kid Icarus controlled like Uprising on WiiU would work wonderfully with two analogs plus being able to place the Gamerpad on your lap, and the added opition of being able to use WiiMotion+/nunchuck would make everyone happy (dual analog for such a game just isn't an valuable option IMO).
But, Sakurai acted as if a new KI wouldn't be coming for quite awhile. :/
Not true! Just this one, I swear!starved for games?
ports ports ports!!!!
Actually, it -was- originally designed to be played with the Wiimote. In fact, in one of the Iwata Asks on the game, they show prototype footage of the original Wii version. :OThe game did seem like it was designed to be played with Wiimote aiming. Would be improved, but if it was the same game I would skip out. Already had my fill.
Double dip I would
This... may or may not be an issue. One of those things where I wish I could hack the game and try controlling it with the Wiimote. Maybe if you had to hold a button (A on the Wii remote) for the equivalent of the cursor "touching" the screen, and thus you'd still spin and stop the camera like a globe, only now it's more comfortable since the Wiimote/nunchuk combo is lighter, more ergonomically correct and works for lefties, as well.I honestly don't understand "The game would be better with the Wiimote" mentality a lot of you peeps seem to have.
Dude, how? We know Pit's walking would always be controlled with the analog stick so that's covered, but Uprising's method of aiming isn't just one function that can be mapped to a specific source of input. Not only do you need precise control over where you're aiming on the current screen, but you have to be able to start AND stop your aiming direction on a dime at anywhere in a 360 degree radius. All while continuing to move and shoot.
(I can't even get that kind of maneuverability out of a mouse and keyboard.)
Again, I'd love love LOVE a full-fledged sequel -- but since that's not likely to happen for a while, I'm trying to clamor a bit for something that would be a lot simpler for them to put together. A console version could use the tablet, as you said, to improve the classic controls for many; and the Wiimote/nunchuk could offer a strong alternative for others. Why not just make it a full-fledged sequel on the Wii U? It'd work great with the tablet, and you wouldn't even have the whole left-hand issue the original did.
It didn't take much time to write, but I'd been thinking about it for a while, and I like talking about games, hence I'm at NeoGAF, talking about this.
I would absolutely prefer a new game. But as I said in the OP, it's not likely to happen any time soon -- Sakurai is working on not one, but two Smash Bros. projects. Why wouldn't you just want a new game instead? I'd rather have a new game then porting a game that hasn't even been out a year.
Thanks.I like the work you put into your OPs.
It's always fascinating just how much text he puts in these OPs.
I love knowing that he thought this constituted a productive use of time.
Ya, but they have to dedicate resources anyhow (although less) and they won't undercut a game that's still that new on the 3DS.I would absolutely prefer a new game. But as I said in the OP, it's not likely to happen any time soon -- Sakurai is working on not one, but two Smash Bros. projects.
Since I'm not sure I trust someone other than Sakurai to pull off a proper sequel, I think it'd be cool -- and more likely, and profitable, in a quick turnaround sense -- to release a definitive edition of KIU on WiiU.
New graphics. New single- and multiplayer modes, including co-op. Local splitscreen, in addition to online. An option for a "second quest" with remixed stages. New weapons, powers, figurines. And most pivotally of all, the ability to play with the GamePad for stylus controls, and the Wiimote/nunchuk for non-stylus controls.
This game is too damn good. It needs to be fully playable for everyone. The WiiU would be one such way.
I do like the suggestion earlier that there could be a multiplayer mode where WiiU players could play with 3DS players, though. I wouldn't want to completely nuke the original's userbase. Instead, you'll have a master version to play at home, and the original to play on the go.
The blueprint's in place. You did so much to reestablish this brand, Nintendo -- now go all-out and perfect the formula!
Thanks.![]()
What if the world was made of pudding.
Valid points, and there's no way to disprove them. Still, I think Nintendo might see the benefits as follows:Ya, but they have to dedicate resources anyhow (although less) and they won't undercut a game that's still that new on the 3DS.
I think part of the reason for this desire, aside from the simple practicality of a remake compared to an all-new title that Sakurai won't have time for the next couple years, is the WiiU is so perfect for this game. How about an original game based on the IP for wii U, seriously people want a remake of a game that's not even a year old? I'd rather the series retain the humor and setting while venturing into a platformer/adventure game on consoles. Uprising is great, but keep that style there.
A WiiU version might be the only way for some people to play it comfortably, though. I can't say for certain that the GamePad or Wiimote/nunchuk would improve it for those people, but I imagine it would, and that it could work. Again, the 3DS controls are perfect for me and the people I know in real life -- but I've spoken to others here who have difficulty with them, and certainly it was a recurring issue in reviews.Neiteio I completely disagree.
KI:U's control scheme is completely unique to the 3DS. The only way for it to be replicated properly on the WiiU is to use the touch-screen and stylus for aiming, and the bigger screen doesn't make improve anything (playing KI:U on 3DSXL does not really affect the controls)
Something as quality as the remake I'm envisioning here would be nice, I think. A top-to-bottom remake of KIU would be hard to resist for many people who liked the first game, and others who don't do portables or who were turned off by tricky controls. And with the structure of the game and its mechanics already figured out, most of the work is control tweaking and building new assets -- still less time- and resource-consuming than a whole new game. The effort-to-profitability ratio would probably be reasonable. Might even sell some people on a WiiU.Also, when have handheld to console ports been a good thing? Nobody wanted the DS crystal chronicles on Wii, I don't think RE: Revelations would be a good investment on PS3/360, and I don't remember GOW(PSP) lighting up the charts of neogaf when it hit PS3. Handhelds to console ports seem like a waste of time.
I respect all of your viewpoints. I just would really like to see KIU taken to the next level in a way that only a console with power and controls like the WiiU could.KI:U is one of the bets games I've ever played and I think it will do respectably on neogaf's GOTY selection (which I like to consider the real GOTY winners). It is unique to the 3DS and is a high mark on the handheld's library. It also sold formidably, and will probably get a good chunk over a million in it's lifetime. It was one of the top 5 3DS sellers of 2012 IIRC.
I'd love a new Kid Icarus on Wii U, but it would have to be reinvented yet again from Uprising's bite-size shooter formula. Hell, I'd love a sequel to Uprising on 3DS. I just don't see the point of wasting resources. It wouldn't highlight the Wii U or it's library, it wouldn't sell well, it would undermine the 3DS exclusivity, and would be a waste of resources.
This is absolutely true, and sadly there'd be no way to make up for it. The 3D effect in KIU is incredible. I play with the 3D at full blast, all the time. It would truly be the greatest sacrifice of a remake. You'd be losing the 3D, and Kid Icarus has the best 3D on the system.
The WiiU, you mean. The WiiU. I don't want this game to look like vomit, as all SD Wii games do on an HDTV! :OJust on the Wii will do.
All I ask for are pointer controls. They'd be perfect for this game.
Or they could just make a sequel?
Do we really need a remake/port of a game that came out less than a year ago? Really?
Then I would buy it
