What is Arc Symphony?

Arc Symphony has popped up a couple of times recently, and it seems like it's a neat promotional campaign for some new game.
There's a reddit thread about it here.

• Tweet from Jim Crawford (Frog Fractions)

• Sophia Park (Interactive Developer)

• Henry Faber (bentobox.net ??)

• Tweet from Ryan Couldrey (Established Cinematographer)

• Tweet from C418 (Minecraft Soundtrack, other really really good music)

• Nathan Vella (Capybara Games)

It's an interesting mystery being bandied about by a bunch of excellent indie developers and artists, and if Jim Crawford is involved, I'm hella interested and already confused.

Who can forget Arc Symphony? The E3 presser where it was announced that Arc Symphony was to be a PS1 exclusive, instead of being on the N64 was legendary. Truly many feet were shot the night of that Aether Interactive conference, I tell you what.

Well, I got to the (an?) ending. There's not much to it, it seems, I'm not super familiar with the developer to know if that's how most of their work goes. Seems like it builds towards something but then just ends, I was actually getting into it as I really like this sort of "fake retro chat" games :p

Well, it was interesting, I guess. I suppose I'd need to replay it to see different outcomes.

Nice! I used to love playing this game.

Serious question: Why is a game being viral marketed based on PS1 era nostalgia running on a 1980s computer?

Yeah there's obviously multiple endings to this thing, I just got myself banned from the newsgroup by basically being an asshole :p might give this a couple more shots.

It seems many of the "original people" who played the game are from the era of Newsgroups and such. I did laugh at IRC "requiring DOS" considering Windows 95 at the least would've been out and on machines. However, the "game" was also on a cartridge according to the website, so it sounds like it would have originally been for SNES, and maybe these kids (they are mentioned being in college.) are just really behind on the times, lol.

I got offered to be a mod and then it just ended :/

It ended for me when I got an offer to become a new forum moderator. It's a great way to spend an hour if you ever hung out on small forums in the past! They definitely nailed the spirit. I was part of a really small art forum in the past that was mostly inspired by PSOne and earlier JRPGs, so this was pretty eerie =P

Pretty interesting...

So becoming a mod opened up the Fan Archive which leads to some more stuff.

There's more games and stuff on that site if you click the Fan Site ads.

lol @ the diskette tease though
