What is the best 3D Sonic game?

Sonic 3D Blast Saturn Versions Bonus stages, followed by the Bonus stages in Knuckles Chaotix, followed by the demo in Sonic Jam, followed by Sonic the fighters.

If I had to choose a full game I would choose Sonic Shuffle.

If i were to choose a mainline game I would choose Sonic Rivals since apparently Sonic Forces makes that game canon and that's where Silver in Forces came from.

Despite the rather extreme cheesiness of the vocal tracks in this game, it has one of my favorite game OSTs of all time. It definitely helped shape my music tastes when I played the game as a teenager.

I love the Twinkle Park version of Sonic's theme "It Doesn't Matter"

I think the 3D Sanics generally suck but one thing I'll never shit talk is the music. I unironically love every song in Adventure

Probably Sonic Adventure 2 for me. It's not the best overall but the few levels shine REALLY stand out. I could play City Escape all day.

Unleashed and Adventure DX are close though.

Thought there would be more fans for Sonic Generations?
It's a fun reunion tour but it doesn't offer much beyond that.

Unleashed has better level design and mechanics, the Adventure games have more unique varieties of gameplay to offer, and from what I hear Colors kicks ass as well.

Generations is a blast, but I wouldn't say it's Sonic at its best.

I prefer Sonic Adventure to Sonic Adventure 2. The sequel didn't have any adventure fields/town stages and Crazy Gadget was an awful Sonic level. People who like it for City Escape might as well just be talking about the demo. It was a great starting level, then you fight the boss and all of a sudden you're playing as Tails who plays like Eggman shooting everything (what the fuck, let me continue playing as Sonic!). The Chao Garden is much better in the sequel though.

Sonic Adventure 2: Battle was kind of fun to play with friends for a little while but if you want a quality racing game featuring Sonic (and a bunch of other great iconic SEGA characters) I would highly recommend playing Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.

Sonic R, Sonic Adventure DX, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. Each has various qualities to them I dig about 3D Sonic. Sonic R has great physics and level design. I'd go into the time trial for hours as a kid to explore the levels...my first ever Sonic and my first game that I 100%ed. Interestingly, the versions of Sonic R I grew up with featured no music, so I never experienced the game with it's OST until much later...the game without music allowed me to soak in the atmosphere and sound effects much more than I would've otherwise. SADX, is what I wanted from the franchise after Sonic R: Sonic versing Eggman and other enemies, etc. with a storyline to it. It delivers in that regard. Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, while not as beloved to me as the previous two titles, still has a special place in my heart because of all the multiplayer goodness, and memorable music, etc.

Sonic generation is the best of the bunch since all of them suffer from some kind of technical defects Some will argue that the physics are off in the 2d segments which they are but having played each game I would easily put generations over yes 1/3rd of adventure 2 if you have to select only a 3rd of the game then its not good Because the other 2/3rds are shit. The same could be said about Sonic Unleashed the day time levels are the best but the werehog levels are shit. Sonic Colors would be a close second as its basically the idea of just day time levels from unleashed. Sonic adventure has some decent ideas being the first one but it has many issues and hasnt aged well. Sonic the Fighters is actually pretty decent for what it is.

In the regard of fan games I've played every single one. Most of them are not finished tech demos. Sonic Robo Blast 2 is the best one it is essentially what a saturn sonic would have been.

Sonic Lost Worlds is the only 3D sonic with A: precise controls, B: a speed you can follow easily and C: a good camera that gives you a great view of the action.

it has many issues like mediocre boss fights and it does a really bad job actually introducing all its mechanics like how to properly use the spindash for movement and how to properly wallrun around corners... but if you figure out all the mechanics it's BY FAR the best 3D Sonic gameplay wise.

Sonic Adventure 1/DX. Compared to 2 it has actual Tails gameplay, less tedious Knuckles levels, adventure fields, and a pinball machine.

The best 3D sonic game without a doubt is............ *drum roll*

Sonic Generations.

Listen, we've had some good memories with the adventure series. But the boost formula implemented in Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Generations was next level. Also, Generations' level design is so good compared to previous titles with many alternate paths in each 3D level. The game lets you play as Classic Sonic in 2D for half the game and that is pretty fun too, but you'll find the 3D levels a lot more engaging (atleast for me). 2D sonic is best left for games like Sonic Mania.

For me, Generations is the only game that didn't have the "one thing that ends up frustrating you" - every other 3D sonic game did (or had more than one thing), despite the many fun elements they all have.

Kind Regards,
Fan boy who has played em all

Actually, the very best 3D Sonic is Seaside Hill in Sonic Generations. That stage is precisely what all 3D Sonic titles should be imo

100% Agree with this comment. Seaside Hill in Sonic Generations is the best 3D Sonic Level ever designed for the sheer number of alternate routes and things you could do in that level.

I thought Sonic Mania was what could have been on the Saturn? More so as that game would play to the Saturn 2d-strengths, then again 3d was the way to go, and this version you mention.. certainly wouldn't have been a bad effort if done right...

Probably generations and even that kinda sucked.
I honestly don't know how anyone can say the Sonic Adventures, they play absolutely terrible.
