What is the best Final Fantasy Story?

FFXI - Chains of Promathia was the most epic storyline in any FF. It was a bit hard to follow, but the story was just so goddamn good, and the music was GOAT.

Anyone who enjoys FF music, look up the FFXI OST that includes music from the CoP expansion. You will not regret.

From the mainline single player series, I'd have to give it to FFX. Once you understand it, it's an awesome story.

XIII-2 definitely

It's Tactics. No really, it is. Anyone saying 6 forgot about Tactics for some reason or never played it.

I finished it a week ago and found the story totally forgettable. Just another "The princess has been kidnapped by a rival faction, are you a bad enough dude to rescue the princess?" which slowly turns into "omg, the story about some badass dudes is actually all wrong and you must go kill them before they come back and collect some stones...or something." and then everything explodes, the end.

The story may be the simple and cliched "save the world from a big evil", but at least it isn't full of the cheap teenage melodrama that characterizes the later entries in the series.

The first entry had the OG predestination paradox in videogames. Garland is sent by the four fiends back in time, becomes Chaos, sends the four fiends forward in time to send his dying self back in time in a never-ending loop (that you eventually break).

I really liked VI, IX, and X. X was my first Final Fantasy game so the nostalgia might be getting the better of me. Other than Seymour, I thought the story was super intriguing. The entire world was built on the premise of mortality and everything in the game represented that. It's really impressive honestly.

I've thought about this very topic for years, so here's my personal assessment:

1. Best Story: Final Fantasy Tactics

2. Best Writing: Final Fantasy XIV

3. Best Characterization: Final Fantasy VII

In my opinion FFVII beats the rest: there's a lot of nuance and discussion with the characters, and almost all of them go through a lot of personal growth. It's yet to be outdone.

Opera level.

When did this happen in the game? I completely can't remember (obviously no gun, but when did Yang want to go down?).

He locks himself in the control room of the tower or something like that.

It's just a parody of the many FFIV stupid deaths and how the game trivializes them.

Like how Cid throws himself with the bomb instead of just throwing... the bomb.

My favorite of them all is IV but if I'm being honest with myself in terms of story and theme I'm gonna have to go with VI.

I feel like VI is when the series really broke away from the 'swords and sorcery' conventions and started digging into the strange 'modern sorta' vibe that the franchise is currently known for.
