What is the best looking PS3 game so far?

Can I post pictures I took of MGS4 or will I get banned?
If they are a spoiler link them instead of inlaying them. Just be sure the file names aren't end game spoilers like
Mantis controls meryl
or
BigBoss is alive

in my opinion:

1 - mgs4
2 - hot shots golf
3 - uncharted
4 - sshd
5 - everyday shooter

ACTUALLY move everything under mgs4 down a peg. number 2 imo is assassin's creed.

Why ppl keep saying "how open MGS4 is"
its divided to small areas.They are not that big at all.The very big areas are usually dont have any high polygon buildings and stuff on them.

with the loading breaks it really isn't a big game. The biggest area I can think of has the view distance cut short by the
snow storm
.

Rainbow six vegas is an example of a bigger game level and loading wise.

Section of Act 2 before a boss says you're very wrong.

There are a lot of 3rd party titles that people are overlooking.

Namely, COD 4, GRID, Battlefield: Bad Company.

GRID is a better looking game than Motorstorm and COD 4 is better looking than Resistance, easily.

There are times when MGS 4 looks really great but then, there are times when it looks very bland (
Act 3 tailing mission
).

Uncharted looks consistently good throughout and the tearing gets better as you progress.

I think MGS4 and Uncharted are equally stunning, but for different reasons. Uncharted made me say "OMG I can't believe this is a game!" whereas MGS4 is making me say "OMG that looks real!", especially during some of the cutscenes...

Agreed, on the ps3, also Kameo on 360, I have to say both I think are the most graphically stunning games I've played this generation on consoles, the textures are just stunning.

I think Heavenly Sword is better looking than MGS4, the playable sections are a toss up, but the level of detail in the cutscenes in HS just blow MGS4 away IMO.+

Yeah Kameo doesn't get much love, but even today after playing MGS4, HS, Bioshock, GOW, Uncharted, etc, Kameo still impresses.

In still shots I agree, but MGS4 beats Uncharted by a lot when it comes to character animation. The way Jake runs and jumps really bugs me; it looks really jerky and awkward.

And while I think MGS4 is an amazing graphical achievement, I couldn't get over how awful the cast shadows look. They're always fidgeting at the edges and look much less clean compared to the rest of the game.

The name is Drake.

MGS4 probably doesn't use cascading shadows or whatever they call it, but at least it has dynamic shadows, Uncharted has better dynamic shadows obviously.

If you look at MGS4, I'm not sure it has animation blending, in Uncharted Drake can run a bit and he'll get tired and breathe heavily, it's not just one animation at a time, the problem is if they try to get it super smooth you will lose that control, compared to now you can basically come right out of a roll and reload your weapon or if you have a pistol you can be hanging and reloading your weapon at the same time, it's very fluid from the controls standpoint which was their most important goal, I would venture to guess that their next game will allow them to use animation blending but they'll be able to tweak it to look even smoother.

Can't decide between Uncharted and MGS4. Both look awesome, in very different ways.

Honorable mention to SSDHD. This shit is amazing.

I said holy shit a lot of times during MGS4. MGS4's crazy ass setting and insane situations, coupled with some really beautiful art design really propel the graphics into something else. Uncharted is just too grounded in reality in comparison. :P

Oh and nothing, nothing, NOTHING in Uncharted looks as incredible as the final boss fight in MGS4.

That was some amazing shit...although it was funny that right before that scene started I was thinking "man mgs4 is the only next-gen action game that didn't get into the QTE bandwagon" and then...lulz.

It's a toss-up for me between MGS4 and Uncharted. They both look ridiculous (Uncharted spoilers here)
The cathedral level in Uncharted is just mindblowing as far as the lighting, textures, everything. So many of those moments in that game.
I really can't pick one or the other, both are way up there on my list of games.

thats drake's character you see in that run animation. He's not some superhero with his chest pumped out and arms cocked and ready to go. He's sludging through hell and it's reflected with each step. It's amazing animation on both a technical and artistic sense. Not many games have character infused into it's animations with it virtually bursting at the seams with every action. All i can think of is Uncharted and GTA4.

Uncharted by a furlong

I don't get it...in those screens MGS4 looks about as good technically and better artistically...

I really like Uncharted graphically, but it also had weaknesses that bugged me about...specifically the 2d trees beyond the first couple of levels of sorrounding trees....also, the one level that stuck out to me as a little weak graphically, was the level where the ravens fly up as you enter, before going into the first caves...the textures on the carved rock surfaces were a little weak

Because stills really mean nothing. Uncharted's beauty can only be appreciated when it moves.

Uncharted's beautiful, probably even better than MGS4 graphically, but too bad it's not at all fun to play :(

Ive completed uncharted...that section, like I said, looked a bit weak...the rest is excellent. I suppose I think MGS4 is better because the tech is nice enough, but the art is on another level, and I like the way uncharted looks

Anyway the couple of things I hope are improved for uncharted 2 are:

No more 2d elements.
Larger areas, which you can explore more.

Otherwise the game was awesome...probably one of my faves this gen along with crysis

Indeed. I heard great things about HS's cutscenes and animation, and UDF puts everything I've seen in HS to shame. The characters move and react realistically, especially in cutscenes. UDF is nothing in still compared to in motion. The game is just a feast for the eyes. PEACE.

Based on what I've seen playing the PS3 at a friend's house, Ratchet is un-fucking-believably well done. What I've seen of Uncharted and MGS4 - while impressive - doesn't overcome Ratchet.

Ratchet's graphics are more overatted than any other game.

I agree too. The final boss fight is honestly one of the few times I was impressed with the visuals. The scale of things is great, and there are a few epic skirmishes with large groups of robots, but it was mostly bland the rest of the way. Fun game, though. PEACE.

How is the last fight a QTE exactly ? oO

Here's my list in order strickly from a visual standpoint:

GT5P - pure eye candy *I know it's easier to render vehicles, but it's close to photorealism*
MGS4 - Cinematics & production value best ever in videogames *currently*
Uncharted - Overall best technical achievement visually *Best shadows period!*
COD4 - multiplatform, but still best looking shooter period
Heavenly Sword - Beautiful set pieces & best facial work done for ingame cutscenes
Rachet & Clank - Cartoon visuals realized in realtime gameplay
Assasin Creed
GTAIV - Scope of title & quality of visuals

MGS4 is def up there, if you want to count cutscenes only, obviously its the best, but if we are honest, gameplay visual wise its not the best looking, pretty sure that goes to Uncharted.

I'd say Uncharted is the best-looking PS3 game to date. Heavenly Sword may edge out MGS4 too in my opinion.

There are times when I'm playing MGS4 that I think, "holy shit, this is like a taste of Killzone 2," and other times when I think, "holy shit, this tastes like PS2."

I especially notice this when I take camera pics of an "OMGWTFBBQ" moment. When I actually go back to view the pics, I'm almost always disappointed. "Why did I shoot that? It's not half as impressive as I thought it was." Game definitely looks better in motion.

So Uncharted gets the nod from me for texture detail, use of color, and considering it does all it does without installs and loading screens, well, that's more of what I expected PS3 to be able to do from the beginning.

MGS4's middle eastern environments pale to COD4's similar locations and there is more going on at any one time in COD4. Uncharted takes the prize on PS3 though but you'll never get than consensus as 10% of people who have played MGS4 will have played and seen Uncharted. Less for Ratchet and less for Heavenly Sword.

Basically. I don't understand all this love for MGS4 graphics. It's starting to look a lot nicer now I'm getting beyond Act 3 but it still pales in comparison to the likes of Uncharted. Everything is so flat in MGS4, it lacks colour and vibrance, and the textures are particularly low-res. On the positive side though, it is clean, has a solid framerate (surprisingly tips occasionaly up to 60fps in some indoor areas too) and has some great art direction. But MGS4 overall has the 'Resistance' look to me, whereas Uncharted looks leagues better in every conceivable way, with detailed textures - both environment and character, vibrant colours, hi-res shadows, insanely beautiful water, etc.

Don't know who's best but I was stunned by these in the visual sense:
* MGS4
* Uncharted
* Heavenly Sword
* MLB 2008
* Everyday Shooter
* GT5P

MGS4 over Uncharted, easy.
Only because how much they rendered in real time with AA (no jaggies) and it looked as good as uncharted in terms of bump and normal maps.
I was just blown to Narnia when i saw the microwave scene, sanke's octmocamo blown to shreds (you actually could see the rubber fibers!!) and in the same time an amazing detailed ship attacked by RAY.

Yep MGS4 is an amazing technical marvel and i can't still figure out how kojima production did all that in real-time, just WOW. I hope i will be that amazed again !

Tech wise I'd say Uncharted.

However I personally prefered the art style and graphics of MGS4, and the final boss battle is near CG quality - hell I thought it was better than CG in most games circa 1998 - 2001.

However, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is the obvious winner. Regardless of how big a MGS or uncharted fanboy you are, nothing can touch GT. It borders photo realism.

The lighting in the final boss battle resembles the lighting of a certain pc game.

There, I said it!

(but I didn't say which one lulz)
