What is the best multiplayer shooter of 2016?

Overwatch

- Great characters with their own personalities and play style.
- No season pass for maps, characters, guns, etc.
- Bright and colorful graphics with a nice aesthetic that's easy on the eyes.
- The maps feel really well thought out with character mobility and choke points.
- Don't have to grind for unlocks like guns, perks, etc (This is actually a HUGE plus for me).
- No micro transactions that make your character better..

Basically this.

My first online shooter, it was unthinkable for me to spend 70€ day-one in a online-only shooter (since I'm not an online player and don't really like FPS), but after seeing Tracer video on the game's youtube account, trying the beta and learn the way Blizzard would handle the game, it was a no-brainer.

This game doesn't have any kind of bullshit, you have all at your disposal at the very beginning with the same conditions as everyone, you only have to choose and get better with experience.

I won't say it's the best since I didn't play the other (besides Titanfall 2 beta, which I didn't like), but when I look at them there's just nothing there that appeals to me.

Overwatch

It's one of the most polished games I've ever played. It's strength lies in the gameplay of course, which is the most important thing, but also in the variety and fun-factor of it's numerous characters.

Titanfall 2 with Battlefield 1 coming in hot in second place. Overwatch would have a mention from me as well but given the fact that I've already dropped the game until the content is expanded, that's not a terrific sign. That said, if ever there was a near "perfect" core gameplay, OW is basically it.

Battlefield 1
Because it's the only one I've played.

I'm less into BF1 than I thought I'd be. While the planes are now immeasurably better, in terms of overall freeform dynamicity and vehicleness, BF1 is a step back. There's two conquest maps that don't have any vehicles at all now, and like four where they feel noticeable, as in there are mostly any at all which you can spawn into at any given time. And Ballroom Blitz is a flat-ish map of big indestructible things that fell out of some unreleased version of CS.

There's five modes primarily or exclusively about various infantry antics. And a foggy close quarters one coming up.
So I don't understand why they have to shove that stuff into conquest as well. IDGAF about whatever else modes. Just give me good conquest and I'm happy. At least fuck off with the shitty maps. Hate it how they clog up map rotations. And how all map rotations are the same and there are only DICE servers.

I join St. Quentin and then the server immediately switches to Suez. Happens much too often, because the game doesn't show current ticket counts. Frustrates and makes me feel I have to join servers on the previous map so I can play the map I actually want to play. What a nonsense. If I could join servers with only the ~5 ok+ maps in rotation, I'd probably be less whiny.

Can I change my vote to Overwatch?

Overwatch easily. The game is very accessible for everyone. Even though you're not very good at it, there is always a way to contribute. The characters' design is also so fresh compared to other dude-bro AAA violent shooter.

Overwatch, easily. It's the most polished, varied, and colorful game I've played in years.

Doom and Titanfall 2 were pretty awesome single player games too.

I really REALLY dislike Titanfall 2 as a multiplayer game though. Just feels like Call of Duty with crappier wide open maps, crappier game modes with annoying npcs, boring weapons, but with cool Mechs whos executions sometimes maybe work. Seriously though, the game just feels devoid of variety. Waste of my money.

You should try the modes without AI and practice the movement mechanics. Even on the open maps its nothing like CoD.

Battlefield 1. The time period is excellent, the gunplay feels so much better without slow projectiles the series has been known for for a while, and it's an amazing audiovisual achievement that wows me every time I play it in a way that very few other games have done.

Gotta be Overwatch. Titanfall 2 and BF1 were pretty great, and I'm sure I'll get around to trying IW and R6S at some point. Insane year for shooters.

Tie between Overwatch and BF1, maybe Overwatch just edging the win. Haven't had as much fun in multiplayer FPS as I have those 2 for quite some time.

I have a backlog a mile deep, but I keep going back to Overwatch.

I sit down for one round and then it is 1 in the morning.

Even when you are losing terribly, it is tremendous fun.

Titanfall 2

- Best weapon handling I've ever experienced in a FPS.
- Unique combination of Pilot and Titan combat better than the first game.
- Dedicated servers.
- Good overall balance of weapons and abilities (mostly).
- Subtly encourages teamwork and allows for varied playstyles.
- Extremely well thought out unlock system.
- No massive day 1 patch, and devs respond quickly to player feedback.
- Free maps/no season pass.

The maps could use some work, but most of them are pretty solid. The SP campaign, while awesome in and of itself, helps introduce the player to many of the weapons, loadouts, and various gadgets used in MP.

I've never been as addicted to a shooter in my life.

Rainbow six Siege and Battlefield 1

r6 for real strategy, breath taking, nerve racking, anxiety causing feel.

Bf1 for the fun and awe of it.

I tried to like overwatch with the trial, didn't stick. Would've been different if r6 wasn't around.

Overwatch. No contest.

Then Titanfall 2.

Then Halo 5, for a dark horse that's still amazing and has only gotten better

Overwatch is arguably my favorite game of the generation at this point. In a market that's pretty dominated by leveling to unlock weapons, attachments, etc. it's nice to have a game without all of the bullshit. I'm a big fan of Team Fortress 2 so I'm just happy to play a class-based shooter with some great character designs attached to it. Beyond the general art style and aesthetic, I do really like the gunplay and mechanics. It's very accessible and makes you feel good even if you aren't necessarily the best player thanks to how eliminations work along with medals/cards for things like damage done or healing. It's amazing.

Battlefield 1 is my second favorite for the year. It's more Battlefield, for better or worse. It does a great job at landing the atmosphere of a real war with all of the chaos.

Titanfall 2 is in dead last. Campaign was fantastic but multiplayer is... kind of ho-hum. Maps are not so great and I'm not crazy about it in general. It feels like it could have used more time. Shame.

Titanfall 2 is my pick.

Bolded: Seriously! This game has hooked me. It has been a really long time since a shooter grabbed me this way.

Overwatch loved the events for example halloween, plus every character has its distinct role and having to actually work as a team

Titanfall is a close second because all its DLC will be free

Paladins.

The most fun I've had on an online shooter in a while.
The game is well balanced and developers actually listen to the community.
Tons of customization on loadouts and match-specific bonuses.

All around great game.

Titanfall 2. It just plays so well in terms of mobility and gunplay. Nothing comes close to the movement options available here and it's a bunch of fun just flying across the map.

MWR. Modern COD design in it's most bare bones form is still amazing today. Very strong maps and great selection of weapons. Still super smooth and snappy gameplay.

Hmm. Overwatch. Just a great game that keeps you coming back

Gears is surprisingly keeping me entertained also. I thought I would've fallen off it by now. Titanfall is losing me fast though. Feels empty for some reason

Titanfall 2 easily, everything is so refined and well designed. Everything you do feels amazing on the sticks and makes you feel like a total badass.

Overwatch. Because every character is so different from one another that it feels like you're playing a separate game with each one, and yet despite that gulf in play-styles, the game manages to remain mostly balanced and fair.

It's not perfect, but it is hugely fun and addictive. That terrific cast does feel wasted though considering the complete lack of storytelling. And no, I don't really want to watch animated shorts on Youtube to find out more about them.

Overwatch = Titanfall 2 > BF1 >>> Infinite Warfare

Overwatch is very casual friendly, but with enough depth for a competitive side. Characters are fun, intuitive, and very well-balanced. It is funny how it feels casual, but it doesn't have the same bullshit feeling that COD leaves on my mouth, maybe because the longer TTK.

Titanfall 2 is right there with Overwatch, but they are too different to say one is better. Titanfall 2 has a nice learning curve and mastering the mobility will do wonders in your gameplay.

BF1 has a nice skin, and it feels like BF, despite the unusual setting. Not a bad thing, just not fully my style. (I prefer Rush rather than Conquest, take this into consideration).

IW has something wrong with the movement/controls. I can't really describe it. Exaggerating a lot, it felt like I was controlling the movement with two d-pads... (exaggerating).

Side-note: Rainbow Six Siege is still awesome and it is still going on.

I just can't stop playing Gears 4. I love the visceral feel of it each kill or win feels like I worked for it. It feels like your hunting the other team which for me is unique to Gears.

Love it.

Titanfall 2 is good too. Fast paced and twitchy. Pilot mobility is the best in any fps

Overwatch, the maps, characters, world building, sound effects, servers, controls, balance, all top notch.

Mutha.
Fuckin.
Titanfall.

I've played a lot of multiplayer shooters in the last twenty years, and Titanfall 2 is the first one in a long time that makes me happy to just be playing. My team could be getting hammered and I still have a smile on my face as I hurtle towards the extraction.

Yes, there is fun just playing it even if I dont do good.

Toss up between Overwatch and Titanfall 2 for me. I think Battlefield will be in the mix once I pick that up.

Gotta give the edge to Overwatch at this time though. Just in terms of sheer amount of playtime.
