What Is the Best Rockstar Game?

Red Dead Redemption followed closely by Gta Vice City and V.

Special mention to The Ballad of Gay Tony being the best dlc ever created as well.

Don't understand the love for GTAV. It's fun, but not their best. When are they going to innovate with GTA. After San Andreas it seems like they aren't in the business of creating new things for the series. We got 3 protagonists this time around, and an inferior online mode to say Red Dead or the like.

I can't say best because I haven't played them all but Red Dead, Bully and Manhunt were the ones that left the biggest impression on me.

Red Dead Redemption for overall best
GTA V for best open world and most impressive
Bully for best ideas and most heart

I also have a soft spot for GTA IV and The Warriors.

You already got revenge in redemption.

It's gotta be Red Dead Revolution!

Damn straight.

I hope they leave the Marston story and do something new. The character switch mechanic from GTAV would be perfect a TGTB&TU style campaign... although a co-op option for the campaign would be amazing too.

I think I was impressed most by GTAV, had the most fun with GTA1, was most immersed in RDR, but loved Bully the most.

RDR is their best game.

I'm just going to assume everyone saying "RDR" means Red Dead Revolver, because they're right! ;)
Amen! I love Revolver. I only played a little of Redemption but it hasn't hooked me as quickly as I hoped. I don't particularly like open world games.

I would probably give MP3 the nod but I really like the Midnight Club series. I liked 2 and playing LA on the 360 right now. An awesome game.

Considering Red Dead Redemption is one of my favorite games ever, I have to place that as number one. Vice CIty and San Andreas as second and third.

GTA V
RDR
Bully

I can't label these 3 in numbers but they're all equally amazing in my opinion.

RDR.

1. Bully
2. Red Dead Redemption
3. The Warriors
4. GTA: San Andreas

In that order. But truthfully, if not for my love of Westerns (and the amazing OST), RDR would've probably fallen off of this list. I used to go to bat for Rockstar in the PS2 generation, but their mechanics have not been up to par as the years have gone on. Even with how janky the PS2 gen titles look/feel at times, they're more responsive and playable than the newer games which simply feel unrealistically heavy. And when they manage to get mechanics kind of right (Max Payne 3) the game design totally kills the experience. I'm left with more positive memories from the older games than the newer ones which have basically turned into amazing displays of art, tech, and open world detail rather than fun games.

GTA5 mechanics is so mediocre. I dont know why Rockstar finds it so difficult to get their basic mechanics right.

Red Dead Redemption wins over GTAV due to stronger incentives to mess around in open world. Hunting and master hunter challenges made open world gameplay shine. GTAV still has the "start a war with the police" thing (which RDR, admittedly, had a weaker version of), but it felt instanced and separated from the open world. In RDR you could explore the world for long stretches of time and find meaning in it without doing any actual missions, while GTAV is more strictly mission based.

Fuck Vice City's RC helicopter mission though. Fuck that shit.

Story-wise, RDR. But on the whole, I'm inclined to say GTAV.

That was the worst mission in any game EVAR.

Loved the rest of the game though.

I can't agree with all this love for RDR. For me it was boring and vacant. I don't have the patience for that - although somehow l loved Mad Max.

Maybe Westerns just aren't my thing, but l didn't even feel it was close to any of the GTAs.

1: Gta V. Best gameplay and probably the most detailed open world ever.

2: love the setting and missions and it has my favorite story of theirs.

3: Vice City: 80's Miami setting was awesome. And it has hands down the best soundtrack

4: Table Tennis..... it's just really fun. One of the few sports games I've played "seriously"

RDR is my favorite, easily.

Not only because it was a great game, but because it didn't just feel like "more of the same."

GTA games are fun, but it's GTA, you know EXACTLY what to expect and get.

RDR was like a breath of fresh air, we hardly ever get any old west games, let alone open world ones.

If we are talking about any Rockstar game, it would have to be Max Payne. I love noir, am a New Yorker, and just fell in love with the game. Followed closely behind it is Red Dead Redemption. As other users here have said about themselves, I am a sucker for Westerns. Behind that would likely be GTA: SA, because I never really fell in love with either GTAV or GTAIV in the way I fell in love with San Andreas.

Finally someone else has used that word when talking about RDR. I couldn't stick with it at all, and found myself ridiculously bored anytime I've tried to play it.

I really like Undead Nightmare though, which I played first.

Red Dead Redemption by far. The story, world, missions, music, and things to do far surpass everything else.

GTAV is a close second. Honestly if you think there's a better GTA than V that's just nostalgia.

I think GTA V is the best too but really? I can see why people might think SA is better. More customization, more things you can interact with (cluckin bell, gym etc), vigilante missions, etc.

SA had a lot of good stuff that GTA V removed, but I still think everything GTAV done right outweighs those
