What is the best Street Figher game IYO?

Hyper Fighting. It was the last one that anyone with a casual interest in fighters could play without getting utterly overwhelmed. Street Fighter IV seems to be back in that mould, so I can't wait to see if that brings the casual audience back next year.

Wow... difficult decision because I love different ones for different reasons.

The best value of them all overall would have to be SFA3.

However.. as far as my favorite I'd probably have to give to HD Remix. Its all the classics brought into great looking HD sprites with gameplay that isnt broken even after so many years!

Are the people saying SNES SF2 serious? If so fucking FAIL.

Why? Back then everyone that played games played Street Fighter. Now you'll struggle to find anyone willing to play a fighting game and Xbox Live just ain't the same.

Super Turbo. Easily the most balanced of all the series. 3s is pretty boring with Chun, Yun and Ken dominating the top tier.
How is ST balanced? If it was then we wouldn't have Remixed mode in HD Remix, and even still there's a few issues leftover.

My favorite: Third Strike.
Really liked Alpha 3, and HD Remix, because is basically the classic game but with a new coat of painting.

He said most balanced. Not perfectly balanced. And improving on something does not mean that it was broken in some way. There is a reason that ST still has a big competitive scene and there is a diverse set of characters winning at high levels, at least compared to 3rd Strike.

SSF2T - The HD remix being my favorite version.

I don't really like any of the other ones in the Street Fighter series outside 2. Haven't played 4 yet.

I've only ever been a casual SF fan, but my favorite is SSF2T. I recently got HD Remix, but haven't had much time to play it.

Since Street Fighter II WW started this whole phenomenon and CE improved whatever was missing from it (same character battles, use of all the characters) I'd have to say Champion Edition is my favorite of the series. I don't play competitively and just enjoy what it brought to the genre.

Street Fighter 2 Turbo (SNES version, 'cause that's the one I got)

I just don't like SSF2's new characters (bar Fei Long), the shitty new announcer, and the new, cleaner voices for the characters. Seriously, why does Guile sound so girly?

The crap quality sound samples from SF2 and SF2 Turbo have so much more impact and charm to them, don't you think? It feels so satisfying when you punch the other player in the face (ingame, not IRL of course :D)!

3rd Strike > SFA3 > SFA2 > SSFTHDRemix > SSFT2T > All other Street Fighter games thats not SF The Movie >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> SF The Movie

3S. Parry makes matchups a little more balanced. It takes a high level of skills to be good at that game.

ST is easier to get into but it's still a fairly balanced game.

A3 is pretty broken at high level of play but I love the game casually. Bring back Guy Capcom!

They fixed all that in HD Remix.

I've played every Street fighter from Street Fighter 2 on the SNES to Street Fighter 4 in the Arcade with the exception of all the Street Fighter 3 series.

Street Fighter Alpha 3 on the Saturn is my favourite of all time.
Street Fighter 4 is awesome, easily my second favourite. Spent in advance of 3000 Yen in the Osaka arcades each day :D .

And the 2 remakes Hyper Fighting on XBLA and HD Remix on PSN/XBLA are my least favourite, they just feel wrong, I call the gameplay broken.

I hold Super Turbo, 3rd Strike and Alpha 3 all in nearly equal regard, with Super Turbo a bit higher because of how long its been a part of my gaming life.

On a serious note, the best is ST/HDR.

About a year ago I'd have put 3S on top, but I've come to recognize its balance flaws. People complaing about the parry system and how it basically negates classic zoning, but I feel like its one of the things that makes 3S unique, just like Alpha has alpha counters and custom combos and 4 has the Saving attack and revenge system.
Speaking of Alpha, why do people like Alpha 3? It's probably the SF game that feels the least like SF. Even A2 is better in that regard.

4 is really good. It's almost to the level of 3rd Strike, but its easier to do well in it and more people are willing to play it (mainly because its new and shiny, and partly because they recognize the characters).

Unfortunately they had to add new HD graphics that I find absolutely ugly :/. The announcer does sound better though, you're right.

Did they really remake it so that almost every male character has the same, manly voice as in SF2 and SF2T? Or did the characters retain their own, unique voice from SSF2? Cause I don't care about variety if I don't like the voices :p.

I agree with your comment about Alpha 3. I wasn't a fan of all the system changes (guard break, counter hits, wacky juggles...especially the wacky juggles, juggle recovery, etc). But I think it was a cool game in that it sort of went off the beaten path and tried to be this comprehensive, all encompassing game while adding new wrinkles to the established Street Fighter gameplay. The Alpha series seemed like a experiment. It combined the Versus/Vampire Gameplay (sort of), Fan Service and Anime-influenced graphics (with Super Turbo serving as the solid foundation).

Alpha 2 was my favorite out of the three, as I liked the story, backgrounds, music and the fact it was somewhat rooted in the old Street Fighter Gameplay (by playing like Turbo and abandoning the chain combo system in Alpha 1). Of course, the Alpha Counters and Custom Combos were broken, which is why they made Gold.

Right now...without really playing 4...I'd say it's

1) Third Strike

2) Super Turbo/HD Remake (I like the original artwork and music more, but love the rebalanced gameplay except for them declaring Akuma legal without really testing him)

3) SF2 Turbo

Honorable Mention: Alpha 2 and Alpha 3

SF2 Turbo maybe in trouble if SFIV is as good as people claim (and what I've seen).
