What is the general consensus on Far Cry 4?

I'm playing it right now (I'm at 50%), and so far, I like it. It's a fun game.
If you've liked FC3, you will like this one as well.

I just finished it this week. If you liked FC3 and Blood Dragon, then you will like 4. The story and characters are much better than 3 as well, but that's not saying much.

It is for sure a Ubisoft open world game. I highly recommend the character missions - Longinus, Yogi & Reggie, Hurk if you got them, and Shangri La. They are really fun and neat side missions that have slightly more meat to them then "Go here, kill this dude".

It looks and plays well. I liked the setting a lot and the psychodelic stuff was interesting. Some of the characters were annoying but that's not to say it's bad by any stretch.

I grew tired of it quite quickly. It's structurally identical to Far Cry 3 and doesn't do much to differentiate itself.

Got it for free after the AC Unity debacle and it's very good. Supports a wide range of playstyles so you can be Snake one mission and Rambo the next. Animals and hunting can be surprisingly exhilarating, especially when combined with enemy combat.

Lots of sandboxy fun to be had. Throw sticky C4 on a mad rhino and blow it up when it charges the enemy. That kind of stuff.

The little bit I've seen looks kind of repetitive. Are there really interesting ad varied missions?

Meh /waggleshand

You can do a handful of each and get the idea. Thankfully you get way more XP than you'll need to unlock all the skills, so you don't really need to bog yourself down in them.

It's FC3 with a few more gadgets and mechanics.
It really doesn't make an interesting use of the Himalayan setting, and I preferred the islands of 3 but it's enjoyable, especially in coop.

I don't know if I was tired of their formula but it took me a long time to get into it. I had fun, but I'd wait for a further price drop or something.

I feel like it was one of those fast food games in a way. I could have skipped it.
Personally it pales in comparison to Dying Light. They're both Ubisoft formula games, but one is far more varied.
Yeah, Dying Light was a better experience. The parkour and night stuff was refreshing.

I can't really remember any. I mean, it's more about how you take out the outposts when you play these games (at least, for me it is).

I've played a few hours of it and it's just not grabbing me. Not sure if I should keep playing or move on. I actually haven't played it in a while.

Its Far Cry 3 2

If you liked Far Cry 3, your gonna like 4, they reused everything

Just remember that its typical Ubisoft design

It's an improved version of Far Cry 4, which means it's great and extremely long. You definitely get your money's worth.

Far Cry 3 in the mountains. However, that's not a bad thing. They did improve on a number of issues and it's a better game overall. A solid game, however it's very similar to FC 3.

I didn't play any of the previous games, but just finished up FC4 the other day, I thought it was very enjoyable overall, well worth a play through. By the time I got to the second map though I wasn't that pushed about stuff like the assassination or hunting missions or whatever, just kind of got on with the story.

Gets boring fast with a check the box type approach to progress.

nothing is really dynamic at all outside of the encounters. basically the game is the same from start to finish.

i am also still salty about the lack of weather.

I think it improves on Far Cry 3 in some pretty important ways that allows it to capture a bit more of the Far Cry 2 magic, while still having many of the improvements from FC3.

Yea, its a good game.

I'd highly recommend turning off much of the HUD, the enemy markers and limiting yourself to just 3 holsters(so don't unlock the last one).

It's Far Cry 3 made better. Significantly better, in my opinion.

I thought Far Cry 3 was a tedious, boring slog, but 4 made all the right changes and I thought it was great.

If you liked FC3, get FC4...albeit on sale. It really is more of the same, but with minor tweaks.

It had been awhile since I played FC3 and I got it for cheap from Amazon (PC game code) so I didn't take immediate offense to how much of a retread it is. However, the economy is broken, they do a bad job about spacing out upgrades, and there isn't a lot of variety.

By the time I had played about 1/3 of the game, I had all the weapons I would ever need and, even if I had a few items left to craft, there wasn't much else "new" in the game that I was going to see.

These things combined, Ubi got a pass this time. But FC5 better be a drastically different and better game, else the pitchforks are coming out.

TLDR: Buy it on sale if you liked FC3.

I thought the game engine and gameplay were great. The missions were very bland and repetitive so I didn't play too much of it. Lots of filler

Blood dragon was way better

I love how alive the world is, and the world in this game fucking hates the player in the best way possible.

I liked Far Cry 3 and I like this one, they are very similar.
