What is the greatest E3 moment ever? For me, it is this video...

Twilight Princess or Shenmue 3.

I wish I knew more about the reaction to Brawl. From the sounds of it, there was a big reaction, but the audio's really bad so it's kinda hard to tell how big. I think it was a small audience as well, because it wasn't done during the conference itself. SHOWTIME

Trying to be impartial :

Agreed on the FFVII remake trailer. Both because it has been on the wish list of the Internet for as long as I can remember visiting gaming sites and because the trailer was brilliant, slowly building up expectation going from "this kinda looks like FFVII" to "omg this is FFVII" to "holy shit it's a remake".

Personally I'm not too excited about the game though. Action RPG, divided into multiple parts, directed by a director I really dislike and made by dev whose only action game was mediocre in terms of gameplay .

So for me personally it was FFXIII coming to 360. At the type I was ridiculously hyped for the game and the fact it was a ps3 exclusive (and I only had an Xbox) was killing me.
It probably the only time I remember jumping from joy from a E3 announcement and I also think they delivered it perfectly (with the whole "one last thing" act at the end)

Kojima being introduced at the 2015 Sony conference, walking towards the stage faster than the speed of light to the Mad Max: Fury Road soundtrack, to show off a teaser for his first game as part of an independent studio as the crowd went nuts.

I remember the HYPE in the OP link :'(.
I'm one of those gamers who hasn't played ff7 yet just becuz I couldn't swallow the graphics for some reason so I decided to wait for that 'someday' to play it in modern graphs.
Still waiting..

1. FFXV + KH3 reveal
2. FFVII Remake reveal
3. The Last Guardian reveal

Im nearly convinced its Paul Dano who got paid to do that. Seriously, if its not his twin brother, this guy should be acting to stun for Dano movies.

I personally don't see how still unreleased games or games where the promises have a high potential to fall short can really be labeled objectively among the Greatest E3 moments of all time.

Otherwise it's voting for the best smoke and mirrors or false promises.

I mean, is the Duke Nukem Forever E3 2001 trailer one of the greatest moments in E3 history? It looked awesome at the time and generated a ton of hype....but we all know how it turned out in the end.
Watch Dogs E3 2012 demo looked awesome at the time and was out of left field....but once again, people aren't so quick to label its reveal as being so great given how the final product turned out in comparison.
I don't think I even need to go into how great the Aliens: Colonial Marines E3 demo looked vs. what we actually got.

For those being quick to list unreleased games as the greatest E3 moments....down the line, if that game ends up being a huge disappointment or is still unreleased several years from now, will you still claim its E3 reveal among the greatest of all time?

For me, the truly greatest E3 moments that are the ones that actually delivered on their promise, and where we can look back and point to the beginning of something great that influenced gaming and made it better.

Twilight Princess reveal.

Once again, it's easily this. The FF7 Remake reveal isn't in the same league by any stretch of the imagination. I mean the FF7 Remake was beaten in the same press conference. I didn't even like Twilight Princess that much but the 2004 reveal remains the biggest crowd pop I've ever seen at any gaming event, period.

Halo 2 had one of the coolest gameplay reveals showing off not just an incredible engine (which unfortunately couldn't be utilized in the final game), great mechanics to include dual wielding and boarding, and incredible cinematic cutscenes.

With that being said, in totality, the E3 in which Shenmue III and The Last Guardian were revealed was pretty amazing. Two much sought-after games being resurrected. Can't beat that.

Close second being the return of a numbered Ace Combat.

Seeing Yu Suzuki walk onstage for Shenmue 3.

I waited 14 years....I legitimately started tearing up.

My wife thought I was crazy.

Definetely SSB Brawl or Twighlight Princess for me. I was pretty young then, so that stuff blew my mind. Also, Super Mario Galaxy was the reason that I wanted a Wii in the first place. That was quite a good period of time tbh

Final Fantasy VII Remake for me easily. I've been dying for it.

The timeline of dreams:

From E3 2005 FF VII PS3 Tech Demo to the random Japanese magazine polls and interviews about "we're looking into but HD towns are hard" to the Twitter polls to the Hashimoto PS4 port tease...

So much back and forth for me. Then it finally happened.

Yet you were hyped for Zelda Twilight Princess reveal which the core story is pretty much the same as always including the gameplay and everything as you posted just recently :P
Tbf we didn't know at that time that TP would be an almost remake of OoT. That was coming off OoT, MM and WW, each of which were radically different games. TP is the greatest reveal of all time, even if the game itself wasn't particularly groundbreaking.

The Metal Gear Solid 2 E3 trailer back in 2000, damn. Still the best game trailer ever made IMO.

It was also pretty crazy with TES4: Oblivion back in 2005.

I think the God of War reveal last year beats Twilight Princess by a mile. It had not only an AMAZING live orchestra and back-up singers, it also kept most people guessing as to who the man behind the voice really was until it was revealed to be Kratos. Then to top it off we actually got a live walkthrough of the game while that orchestra was still in motion. Excellent stuff.
