Shit! where had I been

To this day, nothing has ever impressed me as much as Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on Playstation. What a beautiful looking game that holds up perfectly to this very day. You can have your billions of polygons and ray tracing and whatever digital foundry loving bullshit you like, but there is NOTHING better than these old school 2D games and especially SOTN.

For me it's RE4Remake. It just feels right, it's not super realistic but feels fucking amazing. Many of you will probably say RDR2 which I'm also playing but the RE Engine feels better for me
You?
Eh, visually impressive doesn't necessarily mean "beautiful".
RE4R looks awesome, and in average more diversially good looking than even RE9, despite the latter's superior path tracing and details, but it doesn't look "beautiful".
If i had to choose i would go with something like Zero Dawn Remake or Forbidden West as the world really has pretty regions, maybe Ghost of Yotei.

Baten Kaitos has to be up there somewhere:

I'd never even heard of this game before :pie_thinking:.Gonna check it out for sure.

Best looking open world, best weather: Red Dead Redemption 2

Best looking realistic character: Hellblade 2

Best looking UI: Metaphor ReFantazio

Best looking stylised game: Elden Ring

I think Elden Ring also wins overall for me. From Software have always been going for a painterly look, and Elden Ring is their most painterly game to date. Makes me excited imagining what their next PC game might look like :] .

Haven't played too much of it but I remember it being an interesting JRPG. Most notable feature is probably the combat system which is card based.

Avoid the re-release, it has some censorship in it.

Oh right, gotta mention Infinity Nikki :]. Super beautiful game + best clothes in any game ever afaik, probably even beats Fashion Dreamer :pie_thinking:
Also pretty much the only big budget game that I can think of that has clothing physics (GTA 5 has some, but it's really limited compared to Nikki, Cyberpunk 2077 even more limited). I guess other big game companies don't consider it worth the computing expense. Well I disagree :pie_open_mouth:

+ one of the most adorable trailers ever

Just started atomic heart on a base ps5,I was pleasantly surprised how good it looks(and runs too for that matter)… games a looker

None of the games being mentioned in this thread (I did see Zelda totk which is up there).

There's a ton of indie and AA titles I've come across like ABZU, Kena, Ori, Neva, Planet of Lana, Jusant, Sky: Children of Light, Journey, Sword of the Sea, etc.

The indie scene is exploding with beauty compared to the triple AAA devs.

If the question was, which game has or had the best graphics, that's a different story.

Being technically impressive and artistically beautiful aren't mutually exclusive. Plenty of examples in this thread show that.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is worth a shout. You can pick anywhere in the world, adjust a few sliders and make it beautiful, or just admire the clouds. This is the 2020 version, the recent one is nicer still.

Chrono Cross.

But you have to play it on a CRT at OG resolution. Otherwise the backgrounds look too low res (or have upscaling artifacting/smearing).

I have the game on my Switch. I'm thinking of replaying this game soon and in portable mode due to my OLED. I heard that SquareEnix really fixed the issues the HD Remaster had

It's been a while since a game visually wowed me but the one that sticks out the most is Death Strading 2.

That opening scene is fucking insane dude. My jaw was on the floor on OLED TV...

It's a shame that I fucking hated the game lol. That engine is something else.

The opening scene is a video of real life footage.

Beauty is a subjective thing, it means different things for everyone.

Some people love super realistic graphics. Others love creative pixel art. Some equate beauty to the most technically detailed graphics possible.

Myself, I define a "beautiful" game as one whose graphics make me feel something very positive. So to me Minecraft is a beautiful game. So is RDR2, that game is so incredible looking that I can simply have fun wandering around the open world sightseeing. Others which come to mind are Satisfactory, Outer Wilds, Skyrim, Jet Set Radio, Journey, etc.

But when I think of the MOST beautiful game to me, the game where I love to just sightsee the most, the one whose graphics can keep me stunned and entertained for literally hundreds of hours, yeah it's No Man's Sky. I'm sure most wouldn't agree with me on that, but I just love the way NMS looks. Its not the most realistic graphics nor the most detailed, BUT it has a unique style to it which I simply love to death.

As a sidenote, Bloober's art team for SH2R and Cronos have been incredible for my tastes. They've brought urban decay to a new level in games imo. There was a moment where you first enter that apartment courtyard in SH2R that blew me the fuck away. It could've just been an apartment building with some fog but whatever they did, it looked so imposing and eerie.

They're killer, really curious to see what they do next.

There is no most beautiful game ever, there are a small pile of current gen games that you could say lead in the best looking graphics but its subjective because there are different types of games and settings that appeal and don't appeal to gamers. I find these threads silly.

RE Engine games (RE2R, etc.), RDR II, and several other games mentioned here are grossly overestimated in regards to graphics.

NPCs, hair, textures, etc. still look off in all these games.

:messenger_savoring: Say what you will about Star Citizen but it's one fucking beautiful game. These are all pics from my personal gameplay, sorry for the spam but I couldn't decide what pic to post and decided to post everything I had lol....

If we are talking just graphically beautiful...hmm I think I'd have to go with Horizon Forbidden West. But stylistically I'd say Ori or TLOU2 honestly. I know they look really different but they each have unique take on presentation. Im taking into account animations, realism and just the overall art.

This is a hard one though. I think i would have to break it down by genre. Like racing games, for example, Forza and Drive Club are astounding but I kinda count them separately from competing with a game like God of War, ya know?

Demon Souls remake is just stupid beautiful too. I keep thinking of more. Fack...just pick one. This is a good problem to have I guess.

I still consider Uncharted 4 to be the best looking game. The quality of assets, the composition, color pallate, lighting, environmental storytelling, variation of environments etc.

You could make a good case for this game. Also fuck these guys for dropping this 9 years ago then disappearing off the face of the earth.
I gave up on Cuphead. Could never beat this Sunflower boss. Didnt want to cheese by doing easy mode.

Probably the best Genesis graphics I saw. Too bad the game itself was crap. But incredible colours, animations and effects.
