What is the most you've ever spent on a single videogame?

I spent £100 / $180 on probably the first copy of Shenmue 1 that ever got sold a few days before Japanese release! The import store had three copies (hence the high price) and the final two went to staff. There was nothing on the web about anyone having found any other copies anywhere when I got home - so I claim first ever Shenmue purchase in teh world.

$380 for an import Nintendo Gamecube, memory card, extra controller and wave race: blue storm. Played it for months, still play every now and then.

Aside from that, I think that ~$90 for my import of Soul Calibur II + overnight shipping is the most I've paid for a single game.

I paid $88 after taxes for Street Fighter 2 Turbo Snes.

Was this how much SNES games were? What was the Normal SNES price, and what was the price for high caliber games then? I Remember paying 60 dollars for Battletoads for SNES. Were games usually 59?

Most were $59.99 or lower. Some were $64.99. A rare few were $69.99.

1st party was $50, 3rd party, some were $50, most were $60, the $70 ones were the SF2s and Square games

$100 when it came out.

Just found the receipt in the box for this - Babbages 9/8/1994 $69.99

And to think that people complain about current and next gen gaming prices. Sheesh.

Er... why didn't you just get FPWS6MS (and a SS if needed) if that's the case?

I actually already had it. I was under the impression that Fire Pro Z would be more than a straight port.

I miss playing Fire Pro games.

EDIT: I also paid ~80 bucks for Chrono Trigger when it came out, and I had to originally pass on FF3 because it was out of my price range. SNES cart prices were out of control for a while.

Let's see...

3 EQ accounts + 6 expansions each + 5 years of play...

Let's call the original games $50 each. Expansions on average $20 each. I did the max duration subscription, so I average probably around $11 a month per account.

In subs, that's just under $2,000
Original games that's $150
Another $360 in expansions...

So roughly $2,500 in Everquest over five years or so.

Ouch.

I used to think $79.99 for the SNES verison of Mortal Kombat at Toyrus when it was first released, but I've spent $99.99 each to purchase FFXI w/Hdd and Tekken 5 Ltd. w/Arcade stick for PS2. The most I ever spent is probably $200 for Konami's Drummania w/official Drumset for PS2.

Samba de Amigo plus the full price for the official maraca controller. Probably well over $100, don't exactly remember.

$85 for a copy of Rez (shipping included). Totally worth it.

$70 for Guitar Hero pre-order is also up there. And if it counts, I've invested about $250 in building DDR homepads/cab/PC to run StepMania on, so far.

£75, which is about 4 million dollars, for a Jap copy of SF2 Turbo for my SNES, about a week after it was released.

Bastard evil rip-off import mongers.

I was only little.
I paid about the same for the PAL version, and I was old enough to know better. :(

I remember the Street Fighter II and Final Fantasy carts being mucho expensive for the SNES. Also Star Control for Genesis. I think all of them were in the $70-$80 range. Quite expensive in early 90's money.

Next gen @ $60 per game is quite reasonable, if you ask me.

True story...

Went to SNK America HQ Building in L.A. back in 1996 to have a chat with Chad, the main manager of that division. During my visit, several of the devs from Samurai Shodown II were there for a meeting. In the wherehouse, there were several arcade MVS carts lying on a table. One of them was a Samurai Shodown II home cart enclosed in a 14k gold casing(yes, the cart itself is actually gold). Anyway long story short I bargained with Chad to sell me the cart. He initially said no but I managed to get him to sell it to me, signed by the devs that were there, for....$3,000

Yup, things were going good with me financially so I offered him 3 grand to buy the cart with the signiatures from the SSII devs and he accepted. Still own this beautiful cart today and have not played it. It's in a treasure box in my garage and is very VERY important to me, considering the SSII fan that I am. :)

I built a $4000 PC to play Quake 1 competitively

I'm pathetic

If I just look at new domestic games and none of the "special box edition" or compilations or stuff (and not any used games/collector's items), then that would have to be $80 + tax for Shadows of the Empire (N64).

I really enjoyed the game. It was a huge step up for Star Wars games... Playing Hoth was amazing... Not sure if it was worth the price for the instant gratification though in hindsight.

I paid $108 for Super Mario World $119 for Seiken Densetsu 3 and $140 for Dragon Ball Z 3 (+ adaptor) all imported

My copy of Chrono Trigger for the SNES was a paltry $70 from Wal-Mart... FF3 (VI) was 65... Street Fighter 2 Turbo was 60... All three games were definitely worth it.

I am sure there were more.. but these are the only ones off the top of my head...

Edit: I just rememebered... I paid $99 + tax for Virtua Racing...

Steel Battalion on launch with no trade-ins as well as Line of Contact on launch. I wasn't the only sucker to buy it.

$70 for Killer Instinct SNES... which, interestingly, was the first game I bought myself

Pre-owned, $80 for a complete Dracula X: Chi no Rondo. New, I've purchased a bunch of stuff around $130. MGS, ZOE, MGS2, ZOE2 Premium Packs. Wonderswan/Final Fantasy packages. Lots of stuff like that.

100 bucks to import Phantasy Star IV from Japan.
90ish bucks to actually buy Street Fighter 2 for SNES while I was in Japan :|.

around $360 for ketsui, under $300 for the pcb, but shipping and other charges pushed it up. sega astro city cab was $340. only other pcb i have that i even paid over $200 for was ddp doj, at just under $300 total.

i want a naomi gd setup with ikaruga, but thatll cost around $700 i think. im gonna wait on that one.

I have Suikoden II...but I bought it for 50 bucks. :P

The most I've ever spent on a game was 55 bucks. That was DDS1.

Come to think of it, the $54.99 + tax + shipping I paid for DDS1 is the most I have ever paid for a game, personally - as in, actual money, not a trade. I'm thinking of topping it by getting a Growlanser Generations box - they're $75 + shipping on Amazon. But I already got the game for $10 from the Best Buy clearance sale, so I might not bother.

Oh, and DDS1 is also the highest-price game I've ever sold - $105.95 shipped to a lady in Las Vegas who had to get it for her son fast. She got it, all right. I still have my own copy, and I'm protecting it well.

100 bucks for Final Fantasy XI PS2, not including keyboard and monthly payments.

I knew it was shit after the first few hours of playing, but I tried to trick myself into thinking I didn't piss my money away by playing for a few more weeks. It didn't work.

$69 for Goldeneye on the N64 is about the most I've ever payed for a single game. Now consoles and spending sprees.....tons......

Sonic 3 cost me $60 I think wich is about the most I ever spent on a Genesis game. (bought it back years later for about $15)

Spent nearly $400 for my PSP, games, and acessories when all was done and tax was tabulated, but from the sounds of it my PSP spree was on the low-end compared to others (my wallet still hurt, but I love my PSP so I don't regret it a bit.)

Dreamcast.........nearly $1000 after my first week owning the system, I loved my Dreamcast.

Payed full price for Star Ocean 3 the day it came out.....doh!

And PC upgrades......woe is me, I've spent sorry amounts of money on PC upgrades.

Same game, but I paid a little bit less. It was worth it.

I bought a Progear PCB last year for $290, I think. Sold it a few months later for more than I paid. Don't remember how much though.

As far as console games go...Probably Chrono Trigger at release. It was what, $80+tax? I know it's probably been said numerous times in this thread but I've already forgotten.

I own Steel Battalion, but I got it as a Christmas gift so I'm not sure it counts. I had no place to put the stupid controller so I only played it a handful of times. Figured I'd just wait until Line of Contact came out to get a setup for it and really get into it. Whoops. Last year I tried selling it on ebay but the douche who won never paid, and now it goes for so little I can't bring myself to sell it. I'm stupid.

Mine would be $95 for Final Fantasy III for my SNES back in 95. I thought it was totally worth it at the time. Never again, though. :P

Same here. I finally picked up a complete import copy of it last week for the equivalent of $5.51. Since I distinctly recall seeing Street Fighter games at EB priced over $120, I chuckled to find them in Akiba for 105 yen each.

$80 for an import PSP game is nothing, Rareside. Have you looked at the prices for American PC games yet? I saw Dungeon Siege II for $100 the other day. O_o

I spent about $500 getting a Supergun and Street Fighter III 2nd Impact back in 1999. Also have dropped about $400 on several Neo-Geo AES carts, and spent $175 on Panorama Cotton for the Mega Drive, although I turned around and sold it for $325, so it was okay. :D

BTW rareside, where did you buy GTA from? I got mine from NCS; shipping was still expensive, but I got several other games in the same package, so the breakdown didn't seem as bad.

you must be shopping at the wrong places if you are seeing PC games for 100... they are cheaper than the console games most times.. because they are cheaper in the states... I would guess

bought Dragona a copy of Breath of Fire II for snes signed by the devs at Capcom back in '96.

I paid $80 for X-men Vs Street Fighter(with 4mb ram cart) on Saturn in 97 or so. PLus the $25 import swap cart.
$130 shipped for Pop'n Music 10 w/ Pop'n 2 Controller.

Everquest for a couple years, then later for a few months.

I remember passing up a copy of Radiant Silvergun at EB for like $40 right before they stopped carrying Saturn games :(

Now that I think about it, I never paid more than $60 for a single game (all during the N64 era). Maybe arriving late to modern console gaming did have its advantages.

I might have gotten a N64 game for $60, and I think I only ever got 1 genesis game new at release, not that I can remember what Sonic & Knuckles cost

does buying multiple copies/versions of the same game count?
