What is the PS5 Surprise/s?

I think these can be some potential ones:
-BC games having blazing fast loading times, way shorter than in Series X and with bigger input lag improvements due to using Bluetooth 5.1 or USB 3.2 gen 2 for DualSense.
-Some BC games also supporting Activities and the in-game Guides, all BC games supporting the Picture-in-picture and party features seen for PS5 games.
-'Switcher' feature that allows to suspend and restore multiple games at the same time, acting as PS5's Quick Resume.
-Next gen Remote Play working flawlessly when using it on wifi6 and Bluetooth 5.1 (if pad is wireless) or USB 3.2 gen 2 (wired) PC/smartphone/tablet, or via internet when using wifi6 routers and decent Internet connection on both sides.
-You can create your own custom activities and share them online to send challenges to other players. Example: 'Beat my lap record in this circuit using the same car I had'. And maybe even players who don't own the game can play it, acting as player made demos.
-Next gen PSNow being ready for launch, supports up to 4K 60fps with a new coded that highly improves the image quality. Version announced for Android and iOS.
-If you have the PSNow subscription, you can also play all your digital PS5 games (all, not only the ones included in the subscription) streamed from their servers even if you don't own the console.
-Demon's Souls is cancelled, they will replace it with Knack 3 as launch game.

PS3 emulator is impossible. Most games don't run on PC or run with important issues, same would happen in PS5, only a few games would work. It would be like OG Xbox support on XBO or Series X|S, only limited to a few dozen games. A smaller number of games that the 'PS2 Classics' available on PS4 and PS5.
Nice list, how about all PS1/PS2/PS3 games available via PSNOW to stream at 4K 60fps? Couldn't that be a solution to old gen BC?

Except DF explicitly said they weren't talking about platform comparisons.

I'd say something in the OS that hasn't been announced or seen.

Fair play, didn't know they'd explicitly ruled out platform comparisons.

Second guess?

Really, really fast BC with significant improvements using boost mode.

PS Now will be free with PS+ for PS5 owners? Its bound to be underwhelming and this is probably the most underwhelming thing I can think of off the top of my head.

I wonder if it's just a quick resume feature like series X has. I think in the UI video they showed off sackboy and allstars and one of the UI overlay buttons said "switch" and I read that as a way to switch to other titles.

another guess is that the haptic goodness works with PS4 games. My understanding is force feedback is basically a sound file. Maybe the PS5 does something like Dolby pro logic and processes the FFB sound file to generate a "stereo" or multichannel FFB signal and the dual sense controller then provides more "immersive" feedback.

PS3/2/1 BC. Be still my heart but I don't see that one happening. Feels like if ever it would be a year 2 or 3 feature to build up more good feels when they have volume to sell and COVID-19 is over.

Probably related to the OS. I would like to see someone upgrade the storage with one of the new SSD and see how it performs ?

If it's a neat trick like that then what will happen is it will be used well in first party games and exclusives and will be ignored or have a novelty implementation In third party games.

I think that in general features will be supported if they are widely appreciated and they add something recognized as valuable by the general public.
For example, Dual Sense's haptic feeback and adaptive triggers seem to be a game changer based on all the early impressions so far and it's very likely they will be huge hits among gamers.
With that kind of response developers are simply not going to ignore the features given that it's an extra that does not harm development on other platforms.
It's more likely that those who don't have them will be forced to catch up with an updated controller.
Same for the OS based features, if they end up being useless gimmicks they won't stick, if they improve quality of life a lot and they're widely appreciated they will end up becoming standards.

Gamepass available day 1 on PS5.

MS and Sony in a partnership.

Mass suicides among the console warriors.

NeoGAF loses 80 % of its threads.

The Console Wars have inspired such great artwork over the years such as Jaffe's Twisted Metal Ending, would be a shame to see it come to an end... but all things must change I suppose... all things must change.;_;

Whatever it is, it's embargoed
So why would Sony embargo something so close to launch especially if it's a nice surprise

Dont do this. It's just a blank expression.

"We hoped that console was going to be fast, yet is faster than we thought, you are going to be surprised."
"Bloodborne remake surprised?"
"N....No"

It will be related to load time. SSD all the time I guess.

Speaking of which, anyone seen some footage of fallout 4 or Skyrim BC load times?

I think the surprise he and others are alluding to is that it's more capable on multi-platform games than the XSX. Looking at all the clues and other statesments made by DF, etc.

I think people are overreacting to the word surprise. In every instance I have heard it said it sounds more like a general statement that the system and controller perform better than expectations. I am sure quick resume is there based on what we already know so maybe that but I do not believe it is some secret hidden surprise that is going to instantly change the landscape of console gaming.

Official black PS5 faceplates and back controllers available day one.
Sony would be crazy to not sell colored faceplates, game related faceplates (even if limited editions) and allow 3rd party publishers to sell their own faceplates (giving Sony a share of the profit).
No Demon's Souls faceplates for sale at launch is a huge wasted opportunity.

You know what, even though I don't have the console yet, just The accessories are making me like this color. It's not white, it's actually a light grey. It's nice

Maybe I'll change my mind once it arrives but I prefer my consoles black.
I have a lot of nostalgia for the grey PS1 but I still think black is best.

Well considering all the big single player games from ps4 are dropping in price significantly i would guess paid remasters.

Yeah I imagine the custom plates are coming.
I'll be very surprised if we don't have custom plates in time for the next God of War.

The surprise is Doakes

Its probably something feature related. Hopefully something to do with suspend/resume. Or BC.

I don't think it's anything too tech related. If these embargoes are aimed at the general public, don't expect some insight into the SoC, APU.

I think the most likely based on their reactions is that the PS5 performs surprisingly well compared to the Xbox, maybe even better. There was a mishievousness about them that suggested something along those lines.

I'm just not sure they'd be in a position to have compared 3rd party games yet?

It could be that for sure, especially if the rumors of PS5's Infinity cache are true. Even without Infinity cache, I think the high clockspeed of the PS5 would already net them pretty close or even surpass Series X in certain multiplats....

There are some third party games available right now.....As these techtubers including Nxgamer have said, they are playing many games, that can't be first party only. So they are definitely privy to 3rd party games and know the performance differences amongst other things like BC performance, OS features etc....
