what is the the greatest diss song

Not open for further replies.
How Do You Sleep? by John Lennon. The song was directed at Paul.

Those freaks was right when they said you was dead
The one mistake you made was in your head

This was coming off the "Paul is dead" hoax. Paul wasn't dead, just brain dead, according to John.

The only thing you done was yesterday
And since you're gone you're just another day

The double meaning is clear. Yesterday was one of the Beatles best known songs (written by Paul), but that was all in the past (yesterday). Another Day was a song Paul just released at the time and John is saying how the song and Paul are ordinary or mundane like just another day.

A pretty face may last a year or two
But pretty soon they'll see what you can do
The sound you make is muzak to my ears
You must have learned something in all those years
Ah, how do you sleep?
Ah, how do you sleep at night?

Pretty obvious digs.

It's gotta be Tupac's Hit 'Em Up...a track so vicious it pretty much got him killed :lol Also gotta give Eminem a nod...The Sauce and Nail In The Coffin might be the best one-two punch dis combo in history. I think even his haters enjoyed those tracks. :lol

That is the best diss I've ever heard, bar none. It's in the context of a movie, but it is so well said, so perfect, and it just works.

Yeah, it was fantastic...the way Em took away every bullet out of Papa Loc's gun was genius.

an 83 year old fake pacino,
so how can he hold me over some balcony
without blowin his lower back out as soon as he goes to lift me-
please dont you'll probably fall with me
and our asses will both be history
but then again you'd finally get your wish
cuz you'd be all over the street like 50 Cent"

"slap my mom, slap the **** out of her,

cuz you're broke as ****, you suck,

if you slew some crack,
you'd make a lot more money than you do from rap"

"here let me slow it down for you so that you can understand if I say it slower:
let it go dawg, it's over."

eminem absolutely murdered benzino. that song may be why benzino got fired from the source :lol

It's certainly related...after Benzino released that tape of Eminem saying "nigger" in a rap track for which the latter apologized for (edit: you know, the calm reaction to that versus the Kramer thing is pretty astounding in retrospect. Might be a topic for a future thread), Interscope/Def Jam pulled their advertising from The Source, costing them millions. After that the board had enough and fired his ass. :lol He's since started up the new tabloid looking mag Hip Hop Weekly, which you might've seen...think it's only been in print the last couple months.

Here's the full lyrics for The Sauce...quite possibly my favourite Eminem track ever.

It's all bad now man, it's all bad
Cuz y'all done ****ED up now
YEA! Ha ha, new shit, aiyyo
I just want the whole world to know
That I did not start this, but I will finish it

Comin' up, it never mattered what color you was
If you could spit, then you could spit
That's it, that's what it was
Back when, mother****ers was straight backpackin'
Cipherin', fightin' for life in this raft
For the mic to get past, and you psyched and you gasped
Then you hype, cuz you last
And you might whoop some ass
If you lost, then you lost
Shake hands like a man and you swallowed it
When the Unsigned Hype column in The Source was like
The only source of life
When the mics used to mean something, a four was like
You were the shit, now it's like the least you get
Three and a half now just means you're a piece of shit
Four and a half or five
Means you're Biggie, Jigga, Nas, or Benzino
Shit I don't even think you realize
You're playing with mother****ers' lives
I done watched Dre get ****ed on The Chronic
Probably cuz I was on it
Now you ****ed me out of my mics twice, I let it slide
I said I wouldn't hold my ****in breath to get a five
Shit I was right, I'da ****in died already tryin
I swear to God, I never lie, I bet that's why
You let that bitch give me that bullshit review
I sat and took it, I ain't look at the shit, we knew
You'd probably try and **** us with Obie and 50 too
*Hock spit*, **** a relationship we through
No more Source for street cred, them days is dead
Ray's got AK's to Dave Mays' head
Every issue there's an eight page Made Men spread
Will somebody please tell whoever braids his head
That I am not afraid of this ****in waste of lead
On my pencil, for me to write some shit this simple
So listen closely, as I break it down and proceed
This old G's about to get smoked like rolled weed
You don't know me or my mother****ing mother
You mother****ing punk
Put me on your ****in cover just to sell your little
Sell-out mag, I ain't mad, I feel bad
Here's an ad, here's a poster of Ray-Ray and his dad
You wanna talk about some shit that you don't know about, yea?
Let's talk about how you're puttin your own son out there
To try to eat off him because you missed your boat
You're never gonna blow, bitch, you're just too old
No wonder you're sore now, lordy you're bored now
I'm pushing thirty, you're kickin forty's door down
Bitch this is war now, and you'll never beat me
All you do is cheat me out of Quotables
But you know that you'll always see me
On your TV, cuz you've got to stay up 'til
Three in the morning to see your video played once on BET
So, hee hee hee, who has the last laugh? Aftermath, yea
So on behalf of our whole staff, kiss our asshole cracks
We'll never fold or hold back, just know that
Benzino's wack, no matter how many times I say his name
He'll never blow jack
You're better off tryin to bring RSO back
Look at your track record, that's how far it goes back
It's extortion, and Ray owns a portion
So half of the staff up there is fresh out of jail from Boston
Bullyin and bossin Dave like a slave
They completely brainwashed him and forced him to stay
Locked in his own office
Afraid of the softest, fakest, wannabe gangsta in New York
And it's pitiful, cuz I would have never said shit if you'da
Kept your mouth shut, bitch, now what?
Hit it Clue, spit it Slay, new shit, exclusive
Yo Lantern, yo Whoo Kid, you know what to do with this
Use it, I'm through, this is stupid
I can't believe I stooped to this bullshit to do this
And who you callin a bitch... bitch?
You OWE me

CANIBUS - 2ND ROUND KNOCKOUT (directed towards LL COOL J duh)

[Verse One - Canibus]

Yo I'ma let the world know the truth!
You don't want me to shine
You studied my rhyme, then you laced your vocals after mine
That's a bitch move, somethin that a homo rapper would do
So when you say that you platinum, you only droppin clues
I studied your background, read the book that you wrote
Researched the footnotes, 'bout how you used to sniff coke
Frontin like a drug free role model, you disgust me
I know bitches that seen you smoke weed recently
You walk around showin off your body cause it sells
Plus to avoid the fact that you ain't got skills
Mad at me cause I kick that shit real niggas feel
While 99% of your fans wear high heels
>From Ice-T to Kool Moe Dee to Jay-Z
Now you wanna **** with me? You must be crazy!
You drippin with wack juice, and you can't get it off
You better be prepared to finish what you start, nigga!

[Referee] - (Canibus in parentheses)
Hey hey hey hey, you just hold it right there
(Yo, get off me man)
We got an illegal low blow on the fighter in the blue trunks
(Yo, yo get the **** off me man)
If I see one more of those, you're outta here brotha
(Yo get out my way man, yo he started this shit)
You understand? (**** you!)
You'll be disqualified (I'll bite that nigga again!)
Stop bein a bitch (Get the **** off me man!)
We came to see a fight

[Mike Tyson]
Yo Canibus man you gotta hit harder than that man
You don't want no bitch ass niggaz hangin out wit me man
We're warriors man, when we go into battle
we come out, or don't come out at all!

[Verse Two - Canibus]
Yo, you better give me the respect that I deserve or I'ma take it by force
Blast you with a 45 colt, make you summersault
Shock you with a couple hundred thousand volt thunderbolts
Before you wanted a war, now you wanna talk
It's about who strikes the hardest not who strikes first
That's why I laugh when I hear that wack ass verse
That shit was the worse, rhyme I ever heard in my life
Cause the greatest rapper of all time died on March 9th
God bless his soul rest in peace kid
It's because of him now at least I know What Beef is
It's not what I would call this, see this is something different
A faggot nigga trying to make a living off of dissing
Somebody that he's got to know is better than him
but he's feelin himself, cause he got more cheddar than him
Well let me tell you something, you might got more cash than me
But you ain't got the skills to eat a nigga's ass like me
And if you really want to show off, we can get it on
Live in front of the cameras on your own sitcom
I'll let you kick a verse, **** it, I'll let you kick em all
I'd even wait for the studio audience to applaud [cheers]

Now watch me rip the tat from your arm
Kick you in the groin, stick you for your Vanguard award
In front of your mom your 1st, 2nd and 3rd born
Make your wife get on the horn call Minister Farrakhan
So he could persuade me to squash it, I'd saw naw he started it
He forgot what a hardcore artist is
A hardcore artist is a dangerous man, such as myself
trained to run 20 miles in soft sand
On or off land, programmed to kick hundreds of bars off hand
from a lost and forgotten land, you done did it man
You done spitted some wack shittit
And probably thought that because it's been a minute I'd forget it?
**** that! 'Cause like Common and Cube I see The Bitch In You
and I'ma make the world see it too, mother****er!

[Verse Three - Canibus]
I'll battle you on the net
I'll battle you in the flesh
I'll battle you over the phone, you can call me collect
I'll battle you for the respect
I'll battle you over a blank check
I'll battle you with a gun to my neck
'Cause battling's my favorite hobby that's probably why you despise me
We can battle in Hot 97's lobby
Constantly battling, out in the streets
Or Battle of The Beats, we can let Angie referee
Inside the jail y'all fenced prisoners look tense
Armed with shanks waiting for the battle commence
Ladies and gents,
pick up the phone and call in the side with the highest
?pennant and decide the wench?
Lowest versus the highest, I'll start a riot
You're a virus, you run around screaming "Stop The Violence!"
I rip mics tighter than pliers
You say you the greatest of all time?
You're a liar, your time's expired
You no longer have what Hip Hop requires, so retire!!!

did jay z respond to ether

He did with Super Ugly. The whole diss was a f*cking low blow to Nas, but it wasn't no Ether...but Jay did make a few subtle attacks in I Hear Yall, not a blatant diss but it was a hellava lot better than Super Ugly- plus it had a sick flow...

I Hear Yall

I speak through music
I reach you dudes
We can get deeper in the dirt
Than clean shoes
I refuse to lose
I peep you creeps
Three months in advance
I see right through you Judas
The man that I am
And damn you don’t know
The harder you go at me
The harder I flow
Lets do this
I’m just a mirror
Reflecting your image
The minute you switch up your face
I pick up the pace
Its nothing to it
Pull hammers from my waist
We can clap at this amateur pace
If that’s whats cracking
Or we can play this on All Madden
Can you even follow?
Not having a fear in the world
I’m cool in my after life
If I’m reading these chapters right
Please would have you
I breeze through Matthews
Bleeding by half of you
You cowards die a thousand deaths
Fake ****s face down on your housing steps
Are yall even getting this message?
I aint being a aggressive
But if you testing my life
Then shit I got to answer
I got to cut off the cancer
Youngin' pull your pants up
You getting to big for your britches
You ****ing with a dude
That did it with digits
Breathings a privilege
(Don’t you know)? When you defeated
(Wont you though) Through in the towel
I’m better with vowels
I’m a man of principles
Damn near invincible
In my own mind
Now that my souls aligned
I didn’t know before
Now my role defined
To take over control of whats mine
(Come and get me)
Come and take my life you coming with me
Come try and take me for granted
I’ll take you off this planet
Damn it man this is a gift from god
This aint Pakistan so your arms are too short to box
Plus we knuckle up unorthodox
Can’t take me off my grind
Get off my cock
What you thought it’s the ROC
(I hear the..)
Back in the mix of the scuffle
Since 86 I was sick with the hustle
Get a couple chicks to touch you
(Hard To..)
Feather weight ****er don’t ever hate on the brother

Obviously the answer is Hit 'Em Up, but Tupac has a lot of hilarious stuff that is almost as good.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=fKtatmo_ktw - forget the silly fan video/audio clips, the gold here is him going off on Wendy Williams at the end.

Edit: damnit there is a clip going over the beginning of his tirade, but you still tell hear him say he's going to put a hit on her through Jenny Craig.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=pyvMWeEL0VQ - this isn't a straight attack on someone like some of his other stuff, but its equally as entertaining. The backstory on this is that Dre gave away this beat to Blackstreet or something, and Tupac decided that a love song featuring K-Ci and Jojo needed to turn into an attack on Dre out of nowhere. It makes for a really amusing juxtaposition when the tone changes without expectation. Comparing Dre's sexuality to Alize? Priceless.
