What is the words on Trapt?

I got deception for PS1 and I like it due to its twisted sense of humor and unique mechanics. However I never finish this game because it fails to grab my attention for too long. What do you guys think about Trapt?

I just ordered (used) it today, so I'm of no help yet. Reviews weren't terrible, but certainly weren't great, either.

If you liked Deception in America, you will like Trapt. It's more of the same just new traps and with current Gen Graphics. I like it, but then again I like Deception.

I'm currently reviewing it. Like Deception, it's a great concept...but the execution is somewhat cumbersome. Having to manually set the traps in the middle of a battle, the sometimes weird camera angles, loading between every damn cutscene, etc.

I'd rather have a game like this that is actually more of a puzzle game than an action game. You bring unassuming guests into your household and find ways to lure them into a particular area through conversation, commands, or items (i.e. if you play a hot chick, seduce them into your bedroom) and then spring the trap, trying to see how much of a rube goldberg-esque deathtrap you can create.

Sounds no different than the PSOne Deceptions... so basically graphics have improved but gameplay is exactly the same.

Like that makes a difference. :lol

About what? Thats a point of clarification. Itagaki has nothing to do with it so don't buy it because you are just a fan of Itagaki, or avoid it otherwise. I agree with the review it's a novel concept with shabby execution, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying having fun with the novel concept.

This is one of those games that I like to hear from fans of the series. It was a weird series to begin with and most of the people I know didn't like it so I doubt this would be well received.

I would mainly like to know what differences between PSone versions and this one and how many more and different traps were added.

Storywise, it's a sequel to the second game in the series Kagero: Deception 2. The game is more approachable than the last game Deception 3, which had alot of customization options for the traps in terms of damage types, this keeps it simple and along a standard story, with a few sidequests. The main addition are unique, legendary traps which are basically special trap combos activated by performing a few different actions with the traps that affect the environment, ie. light up all the torches as a secondary effect of a flaming pit trap, then the special trap is armed and does a lot of damage, and the ability to put traps in rooms of the mansion you currently are in. The gameplay is streamlined to just be about the traps so no combat or the like just trapping. The voice acting is as bad as the previous game, and the story is a little lame, but it's a worthy sequel, just not the title that takes the concept to a universally appreciated level.

I'm not going to pretend to appreciate the intricacies of the series as a whole, but I did a lot of research and was excited to pick it up. It sucks and sucks hard. It has some of the most repetitive, boring gameplay I've tried recently. To say that this game is overpriced is to state what will be painfully obvious to almost anyone after 20 minutes of play.

its supposed to be a slight step down in terms of customization for trap creation from Deception 3 (as someone pointed out). dissapointing for some fans.

its basically more of the same as the past 2 games with better graphics and better camera options, from what i can tell.

my wife is a huge fan of the series and played 2 and 3 through many times. i bought Trapt for her, but she hasnt invested much time into it yet. she seems to like it though. i think its fun to watch, but ive never gotten into the series.

one of the cool/funny features of the last few in the series is a log of presonal info on your victims, including a short bio on them and a list of how they died from your expert trapping.

mostly for fans id say. but some of the trap combos you can set up are pretty damn cool. a definite niche title. interesting, but not for everyone.

Itagaki would spit on it.

Itagaki used one of the outfits as an ulockable for Ayane in DOAU.

I've actually spent some 4 hours with it or so, and I must say, the longer you keep going at it, the more you start to hate it.

The AI is pathetic.

What I mean with that is that all enemies can only think horizontally. And this means that tehy will come lumbering towards you at some point or the other. And come on, there are always those 1 or 2 square tunnel areas, where you can just beat them silly with the worlds oldest trap combination.

So you know, it gets old quick. The story is another pathetic attempt at gothic storytelling, so I started skipping the cutscenes as soon as I got the general idea of the plot.

I think that saying its for fans of the series is totally fair. Personally, I'm loving it, having finished once, and on my second playthrough so I can end up buying all the traps. That said, I've been a fan since day one and I always complain that they should put back the ability to make monsters out of your kills, and yes, unfortunately the trap customization isn't nearly as good as Deception 3.

The AI isn't great, no way, but I think Deception has always been one of those 'how can i outdo myself this time?' games rather than a player vs. AI situation. Well worth the cash for me, if you're not sure if this is for you, I'd advise you to wait until it hits $30.

I'm still puzzled as to why it took five full years to get a new title in the series when we saw three on PS1 alone.
