What is with the new 360 cases?

Da Fuck?

They use those flimsy cases for a lot of dvds now. I can't imagine a disk being very secure in those. I really dislike them.

I've bought bulk replacement cases before. Not only can you re-case your entire collection, but you can totally re-invigorate older stuff. I got hooked on http://www.thecoverproject.net, so I doubt I will ever stop. My goal is to one day have a case for everything. All my GB/GBC/GBA/game Gear games in DS cases, all my DC games in Wii cases, My Saturn/PS1 games in regular black DVD cases, and all my carts in universal rental cases. To someone who wants to display, collect, an archive, as well as pass it on to future generations, this is a must!

If we don't preserve now, what will happen in the future? Not everyone is a collector, but it is something to keep in mind.

It's really strange to define "preserve" as "stuff into packaging meant for something completely different". Sure, if you've got a stack of bare discs sitting around generic cases beat that for not having to go buy another copy, but every system you've listed there except the Dreamcast has easy and inexpensive copiers that work on the original hardware. From a pure preservationist sense, if you're throwing out, carving, or folding the packaging, you're losing more than you gain.

All my Wii cases are type B with "push here" in the center, which is one of the best types for getting the disc out. Yay for Europe's apparently standardized Wii cases.

Why on earth would anyone care about this. Seriously. It's a piece of plastic.

People cared about Baywatch and that was a piece of plastic. Well, a shitload of pieces of plastic, technically, but still plastic.

What a silly thing to complain about. Who the hell gives their DVD case a reach-around while taking the disc out?

My fingers are always on the side on like, a centimeter around the back. r how about putting it down flat on the ground while taking it out? Just put the damn thing on a shelf when you're not using it and it'll be fine!

My thoughts too :lol

Yeah, Tekken 6 had these.

Ok, the amount of plastic this saves is so laughable. Why not go to the sleek Blu-Ray cases instead?

This bullcrap always happens at the tail end of a generation. Remember in 1994 when Sega suddenly started using cardboard boxes and black-white manuals? What the fuck was that shit?

Eco friendly my ass. Some guy in accounting figured they could save 1 cent this way per 100 cases. Over years and years and millions and millions of games he was able to pay off his company car or something.

this shits sucks , my Burtal Legend was like this , pressed the ring thingy and I damaged the back paper cover of the game , I replaced the stupid case with one of my old original Xbox cases.

so since these will be for all/most 360 games in the future where I can buy some green replacement cases ?

Expect the insert to be ravaged on used copies. You can very easily punch a hole right through the whole damn case the first time you remove a game.

Just got to eBay and search for "360 DVD cases" in quotes. Here's the first listing that I found which shows a picture of it with a center that doesn't totally suck.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320444367883

For the record, I have never both 360 case replacements before, so I would always ask any questions before purchasing. With UMD/PS3/360 cases, you really have eBay as pretty much your only option.

Edit: I have never bought 360 games cases before, but with Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing around the corner (aka "Shenmue 3 Racing" ;_;) I might need to get a hold of a couple for that game, as well as to replace some cracked ones.

I can't see most of the pictures here because my school blocks Photobucket. :(

Anyhow, my favorite cases are the Gamecube and DS ones. They both feel so meaty and thick.

Plus, the Gamecube one has that slot on the side that, if you stick things into it, you can't open the case. The DS ones also have GBA game holders for some reason, which I liked until I couldn't find specific GBA games without looking through all of the cases.

The Wii cases in comparison felt so cheap and plasticy.

Nevertheless, I'm glad that we've moved on from jewel cases. Those things broke if you stared at them too hard.

Plastic cases ruining the Earth, you say? I spend $60 fucking dollars for a game, which I proudly display on my shelf.

Are you going to use the case to jack your car up to change a tire? I'm pretty sure it will display the same way on your shelf...

I don't understand the people that don't understand why someone would want a solid case. Some people (myself included) like to collect things, and like to keep their collection in good shape/easily organized.

I actually need to buy a bunch of blank DS cases from Nintendo so I can create labels/store my GBA games on my shelf, instead of in the plastic bag they are currently in.

This is pretty lame. They could have just shrunk the case to bluray size instead of doing this. I could see how this suits MS though:

- Bill Gates and his wife are big on being green
- Makes having your own copy of a game less important and gives a boost to digital distribution
- Used sales could go down if these cases end up being flimsy and used games on the shelves have creased/ripped covers.

Has anyone had these break on them or puncture the cover art yet?

This can't be Microsoft being eco-friendly. If they wanted to be eco-friendly then they would not use an ENTIRE DVD case to hold MS Points cards. And they have slots for the cards instead of CDs so you can't just use them to put CDs in afterwards.

I thought these cases were made so one could confirm a disc was in the new case before opening/selling said title

Eco-friendly :lol

Maybe next gen they can wrap the discs in dog shit. It'll decompose nicely while providing fertilizer to mother earth.

Eco-friendly :lol

So, using less plastic isn't eco friendly?

You people, seriously.

Yeah I noticed this in my FFXI: Ultimate Collection, strange indeed. While I prefer the other way as long as they don't start getting damaged easier or something I'm not too worried.

Wow. CHEAP.

Saves a lot of plastic if you think about it though. Still, really cheap.

Does Star Ocean 4 have this kind of case?

What is it you people are doing with these DVD cases? It sits in a shelf. What needs to be 'secure' out it?

I admit it'd be more eco-friendly to just kill all you mouthbreathers who waste so much precious oxygen with your continuous stream of blubbering bullshit.

I'm all for the environment but this is stupid because these cases aren't disposable. They don't end up in the trash or even recycling like water bottles because people either keep their games or trade them in. Either way the case stays with the disc for the entirety of its life.

You want these cases to be made of good, durable plastic to protect your investment. Shitty cases ruin games and then the whole thing goes in the trash. This whole thing creates more problems than it solves.

This is happening with everything, my fight club blu-ray I just bought has the wagon wheels as well - expect it in PS3/Wii games before too long.

It kinda sucks, but who gives a shit, really.

"Assassin's Creed 2" comes in that crappy case as well.

WTF is wrong with Microsoft?

First the 2 discs inside the Forza 3-LE are stored in a single-disc-case directly on top of each other, and now this?

This is an outrage. Shame on the House of Gates.

If they really want to use less plastic on cases, be it for environmental reasons or to save money, why not just make the case a few inches shorter? There's a whole lot of dead space on the top and bottom. They could make it as tall as it was wide so the disc just fits in there. Like a jewel case, except without the shattering to bits if you look at it funny part.

And not just the 360, but for movies and the other consoles as well. I've always wondered why they didn't do this. They missed an opportunity with the Blu-Ray case redesign, which they did make a bit shorter, but still has a lot of empty space.

Again, this is happening on DVD, Blu-ray, PC games, etc.

Your stance against microsoft is noble and true, though.

These cases are already proving to be a problem at work. Maybe new copies of games are crushed in shipment and many sealed, wrapped copies of games are scratched right from the start. Happened with Modern Warfare 2, Assassin's Creed 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 now in bunches. =/

If a ton of my blu ray movies start showing up like this, I'll just pick up replacement cases without the holes.

Damn, and I thought the PS3 cases were bad. I just bought Katamari Forever for PS3 and I didn't notice that it had somehow gotten punctured on the front where the tab that holds the instruction manual is. There is a small tear in the plastic and in the insert. Its not the first time I've bought a game with an issue w/ the case around that area either. I can't imagine how badly these cases hold up.

Digital download wins.

I am so glad I stopped collecting games...especially since this will likely warp the wraparound cover.

MW2 was the first game I got with this kind of case. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, but it did catch me off guard.

If you want to complain to someone about destroying the planet, go whine to Coca Cola, who does more damage every day than DVDs and games sold in a year. And those things get deposited straight into the trash.

That is, if this really is some eco-friendly nonsense. If it's a cost-cutting procedure, it's even worse.

Justifying cost cutting or loss of quality by slapping the word "Green" around really is ala mode. SO MANY stupid things out there to see related to this subject. And people buy this all while those with all money gets even more money ---- all the while the planet is NOT helped.

same with me. No biggie. It's not like i sit on my cases or anything...

If this really was about the environment, and not just cutting costs, why not release games in digibook casing going forward? Use a cardboard shell (made from recycled materials), book-style, with a small plastic bracket inside to hold a disc.
