What is your favorite looking Nintendo console?

The Wii is great, the Gamecube is cute, I wish the WiiU console was more interesting looking, and so far the Switch looks slick and still game-like which I like.

I lobe the Nintendo VS red tent

Give me one of these, too...

1. The Gamecube, it was just adorable. Nothing will ever come close.
2. Wii, I like the straightforward and sleek design.

Switch will beat the black Wii for me, I guess. Design and functionality look outstanding to me. Now give it a nice boot up screen and a charming UI and it's nearly perfect. Can't wait to hold it in my hands.

I have a real soft soft for the PAL Super Famicon. But my favorites are the Gamecube and the Wii U. I think the Switch will probably knock out the Wii U for me once that's released.

GameCube was way ahead of its time...okay, maybe Power Mac G4 Cube beat it to the punch, but I really wish efficient, cube-shaped set-top computers make a return. Perhaps they will considering how more and more people are switching over to ITX form factors on PCs.

Toss-up between GameCube and Wii for me. I love the unique design of the GameCube. It just feels good to handle (I swear I didn't intend this pun). I especially like the black and silver colors. The black Wii was awesome too, really loved that design.

PAL SNES.

I wish I still had mine, great-looking device. The only other Nintendo home console I've been a fan of the outer design of is the WiiU to be honest.

My top five:

1.- Gamecube
2.- Wii
3.- Nintendo Switch (And perhaps this would go higher once I get it on my hands!)
4.- SNES (Japanese/Europe model >>> American model)
5.- Nintendo 64

Easily the Wii. While the older consoles definitely have iconic designs, the Wii is the best looking It's aged rather well - I love the heavy use off off-kilter angles, from the edges of the system and its ports to the way the system sits downwards into its stand.

I'd rank them in this order ( as far as US Nintendo releases go)

1 - Wii. Sleek, minimalist, and the angle that "looks up". Elegant looking controllers.
2 - Switch. It looks like a "hi tech" gadget in portable mode - at least what we saw in the videos. I'd rate it above the Wii in portable mode and under the Wii in docked mode. It still looks good there, but the Wii beats it due to angles and not having a tablet sticking out a little. Since "docked mode" is the "console", Switch goes here.
3 - NES. Looks like a VCR from the 80s. Which helped it quite a bit - I like the look over the Famicom. The controllers are iconic but are basic rectangles - the SNES had better looking controllers.
4 - SNES. Looks like a game console. Pretty uninspired look, but doesn't offend either. The controller looks better than the NES though so it's close.
5 - N64. Looks like a game console as well, but a little more toy-ish. Also docked because of the controller, which is awful looking.
6 - Gamecube. Looks like a Fisher Price toy. This thing was DOA day 1 merely because of how it looked. While the controller is great gameplay wise, it looks weird and toy-ish as well - but still much, much better than #5 and #7's controllers.
7 - Wii U. Isolated by itself, it's an inoffensive box which should rank it higher. But the controller is the absolute worst - it's a huge unwieldy thick looking slab of plastic that thinks it looks like a tablet that doesn't even take advantage of its hugeness to have bigger controls for bigger hands. And the console itself looks so much like the Wii it caused massive confusion in the marketplace. Worst looking Nintendo console.

Now, not that I'm saying anything at all about how Switch will sell (assuming you can even count it as a console and not a hybrid) but I'm noticing a pattern with the other consoles.

The wii in black is quite good looking and the wii u is unoffensive at least (ignoring the tablet)

The gamecube I find the ugliest console of any company

Edit: scrolled up and beaten multiple times, high five GAF.

I loved the Gamecube's design but I feel purple was a mistake and they should have released in black only. The machine ended up looking like a fisher price toy compared to it's competitors.

For home consoles, I like the N64 the best with the Gamecube at a close second.

Portables: The Gameboy Color followed by Gameboy Advanced.

Shout out to the Gameboy Micro.

I hate all of nintendo's console designs, but the wiiu is the least offensive aestheticly. Original NES if talking strictly for being iconic

This one looks like curvy sports car

Especially if you had that third party RAM expansion cover that looked like a ram air intake.

Edit: Does anyone have a pic of that style of expansion cover? I have one on my N64 but it is packed away at my parents house. No luck with Google search.

Great list - I largely agree with it. With the GameCube I was more in awe of how much engineering was involved in packing that much into such a small space (compare it to Xbox!), rather than its looks.

As for the Wii U, I always thought the original controller design, from E3 2011, was much better. But then it got changed after everyone mistook it for a tablet, to be more chunky and controller-like.

Gamecube is definitely a great design for me. Very portable and a very well manufacured console.
Second is Wii, love that relaxing blue light.
