What is your favourite handheld system.

I was thinking about this the other day, and as godlike as the DS library is, I think I'd have to say the PSP is my favorite.

Between the fantastic library (It always seemed like a logical handheld extension of PS1/PS2's library to me), the (continued!) PS1 Classics support, and it's homebrew capabilities, I don't think I've ever played a single handheld line for this long. I have a Vita that sees some use every now and then, but I still find myself going back to my PSP.

For me, it's Vita. No contest. Here's why:

  • Fantastic hardware that is so close to perfection (no L2/R2).
  • dat OLED
  • Great social and connected features
  • Remote play
  • Cross-buy / Cross-save
  • A few great triple-A titles
  • Loads of awesome indie titles
  • Plays PSOne games beautifully
  • Plays PSP games beautifully

...such a damn shame that it's sold so poorly--I'd love to see a "Vita2", but it'll never happen.

GBA and PSP.

I owned all GBAs, OG, SP and micro.

GBA is the shit back in our elementary days when we traded cartridges with one another. JRPG library is one of the best. Pokemon, KH, Final fantasy etc. and the home of SRPG. Advance Wars, Fire emblem and SRW OG to name a few.

PSP on the other hand is like handhel from the future. I got OG one bundled with Valkyrie Profile and it feels awesome back then. JRPG library is up there with GBA and DS, probably better if more were localized though.

Both my PSP and GBA SP lasted for more than 4 years even though I drop them like every week.

I think my favourite handheld system is the 3DS XL. I didn't think I would enjoy it so much, but I've been extremely impressed with the amount of quality games for it. Plus, having my entire library on the system digitally makes it feel like the first true portable system that I've ever had. I love it.

New 3DS wins mainly as I can get my Monster Hunter and Pokémon fix anywhere.

Vita was close; much better device by hardware standards but that shitty memory card format is not helping it.

My 2DS was made a terrific choice because of KI, RErev, and Luigi's Mansion.

I could easily recommend any piece of hardware in the 3DS line for those three titles alone. I've played many more, but those three made me realize just how far handheld gaming systems had come.

I've owned every Nintendo handheld, all of Sega's, but none of Sony's. My favorite out of those I have owned is definitely my 2DS. I love the physical design completely and have had completely awesome experience after completely awesome experience with it.

Generally I'm a console gamer. I liked the DS, really wasn't a fan of the GBA or GB. Enjoyed my Game Gear and Nomad, but never considered a handheld one of my dominant platforms until 2DS.

No contest.

PSP. Nothing tops the library in terms of the handheld space. Great variety with plenty of western and eastern games in one place with good hardware.

I'd say DS, simply because the amount of experimental games on it that you wouldn't get nowadays.

I guess 3DS is the ultimate because of DS backwards compatibility.

3DS, especially with backwards compatibility.

I loved the DS but the 3DS probably has more quality titles overall. Animal Crossing: New Leaf has given me hours of enjoyment. It has the best Zelda game, Majora's Mask and 2 other really good Zelda games.

I prefer the Pokemon games on DS a lot more, though. I thought X and Y were boring and I couldn't care less about Ruby/Sapphire.

PSP/Vita

PSP had an amazing library, which included tons of awesome JRPGs, along with PSOne Classics.

The Vita has been severely neglected but has a great software line-up of more niche and Indie titles, and with PSP BC, it carries on "most" of the great PSP games.

So looking at exclusive games, the PSP easily for me. The Vita is like an extension of the PSP with better hardware and great games too.

3DS, easily.

The great first-party titles, alongside tons of great eShop games, plus the Virtual Console and full DS backwards compatibility makes it my favorite portable system ever.

Probably the New 3DS XL. Decent hardware, great 3D effect, fantastic game library.

Vita is close, definitley my favorite portable hardware wise. But the game library is lacking for me compared to 3DS since I don't like many niche Japanese games and indies are very hit and miss with me.

Otherwise, I've had every Nintendo portable. DS library is great, but graphics are lacking and 3DS has BC so it gets the edge. GBA and GB libraries don't come close to DS/3DS for me.

Another vote for the 3DS, I never really got super into the DS during its lifespan. Now when I want to cherrypick certain DS games, I can still use the 3DS for that on top of its own library that I've enjoyed a lot. I don't think the software has ever been better on a Nintendo handheld, at least for my own preferences. Even compared to the DS and its superior third party support.

I have the best memories with the GBC, but I have trouble going back to most of those games, so my current favourite would be my Majoras Mask N3DSXL.
Three of the best Zelda games, great Pokemon games, Animal Crossing, Smash Bros, Mario, and I'm not even including all the DS games playable.

Game Boy when I was younger. I still have fond memories playing GB(C) games: Super Mario Land, Wario Land 3, Oracle of Ages/Seasons Pokemon, Kirby's Dreamland, Pocket Bomberman and don't forget licensed games like Looney Tunes and Speedy Gonzales.

Now it's more a split between GBA (SP), DS, New 3DS and Vita.

GBA and DS have an amazing library of games. It's pretty easy missing out a lot of stuff in those days. I'm thinking about Fire Emblem, Pokemon, 999, Devil Survivor, Strange Journey, Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume, Jump Stars, Mario Kart DS, Minish Cap, Hotel Dusk Room 215 and Okamiden.

3DS is definitely not living up to DS standards, but I adore some of the games I played on it. Games like SMT IV, Pokemon X & Y, Mario Kart 7 and A Link Between Worlds come to mind.

Haven't played much on a PSP, but it also has some nice game. I don't really like the UMD things tho. So much loading times and annoying sounds. I play the majority of the PSP on the Vita.

Vita is probably the best device for gaming imo. It has so many great games you can play on wether you missed some old classics (PSOne, PSP) or just want PS Vita games. However the games are not your AAA games and doesn't get the attention it needs. I got to know franchises like Ys, Persona and Danganronpa on the Vita.

You can't go wrong on handhelds imo. Nowadays a New 3DS and Vita are definitely worth your money. The only problem is you'll have to go look for it.

Is PSP+DS a valid option? Hot damn was that a good generation for handhelds, but I couldn't decide which one I liked better. The World Ends With You, Dissidia, New Super Mario Bros, YGO Tag Force games, Chrono Trigger DS, Radiant Historia, Gurumin, Birth By Sleep, Trails in the Sky, Liberty City Stories, Pokemon Black and White, Pokemon Platinum and LITERALLY a bajillion more.

PSVita comes first I love the hardware and the games.
PSP pink comes second: again, loved the hardware and the games.

Don't play enough on my DSs, I don't really like the hardware and anything, but love the Layton games!

Chiming in for Vita.

Add power grip to it and it's perfect. Very nice to hold, twin stick, awesome d-pad, good screen and so on. Luckily I don't really care about Sony IP so no support from them(in terms of games) is fine to me. JRPG keep on coming to it and many of them being localized makes me happy to own one. Just keep on localizing them and I'll stay happy owning it.

Game Boy Advance SP or a 3DS for the amazing lineup of games in my opinion. I can't make a choice on who would be first or second.
Vita would follow behind as the third best.

This is a bit tricky, as recently I been playing my 3DS a lot more then my Vita (got KI:Uprising through a E-Shop Ebay code and I love it :')) but I have to say that my favorite handheld is the Vita.

It is the system I own the most games on (190+ games across native Vita games, indie tittles, PlayStation Mobile, PS Mini's, and PS1/PSP classics), it feels fantastic to hold, the screen is amazing to look at, and the library the system has is gigantic across so many types of games.

I got my Vita June 2013 and to this day, I love my system a lot :).

New 3DS, easily. DS library plus 3DS library plus some token other titles. Love the clamshell design and new 3DS is actually pretty snappy. No complaints at all.

Second would be DS.
Distant, distant third is the Vita.

Technology-wise Vita is my choice. Of course that makes it all the more frustrating when most of the games coming out on it now and going forward are ones I have no interest in.

3DS, by far. The library is just unmatched to me, I think it has finally passed my previous favorites (DS and Game Boy). I'm drowning in awesome 3DS games.

I've owned:
- Game Boy
- Game Boy Advance
- N-Gage
- PSP
- WonderSwan
- DS
- 3DS

I have enjoyed them all, to be honest, even my N-Gage :P

3ds or vita
3ds has some great games but it's so outdated :(
Vita is just a sexy machine and plays ps1 games so great, and it has some fantastic ports. shame the system never really took off because it has tech way better than 3ds

Vita. No contest. A hardware masterpiece (except maybe back touch) and home to some of my favorite games.

I've owned Vita, PSP, 3DS, DS, GBA, GBC.

OG Gameboy. How can there be any other answer?!

Still have mine. It still works. It's still perfect in every way.
I feel like people don't give OG Game Boy enough love. Nostalgia aside, it has a massive library of awesome, timeless games. IMO, a much better platform than GBA.

GBA SP - DS Lite tie with PSP Go comes second.

I think PSP Go is a much better handheld than Vita in every aspect.
