What is your favourite sidequest?

I don't think that FFXII has a sidequest, but those little snippets of CG and cutscenes between the places I reached to do the hunting was curious. I do think it was a little strange to base a whole FF game on hunting beasts though, but I admit it was a couragous and correct decision.

Other than that, stealing cars and taking it to the harbour for smuggling was fun in GTA1. When earning a specific amount of money was the main objective of the current level.

My favorite side quest was collecting all the 'tri-force shards' in Wind Waker.
That was part of the main quest? Dang :D

No, seriously my favorite has to be the same as the OP, breeding Chocobos to get the Kights of the Round summon Material in FFVII.

I rented GTA and was so bad at it at the time that doing this was the only way I ever saw the second city. I have no idea how long I sat at the playstation running exotic cars from the nearest road to the crusher.

The Dark Brotherhood quest in Oblivion where you finally get to kill that wanker in prison who was mouthing off to you at the beginning of the game.

Playing the whole epilogue in Lunar 2 EB. Technically it's not really a sidequest but you didn't have to play it.

Valkyrie Profile's Seraphic Gate, Star Ocean 2's secret dungeon, FF6's Ancient Castle, Earthbound's desert (with the sesame seeds), Robo replanting the forest, Lufia 2 ancient cave

Tying up every character's loose ends in Chrono Trigger, especially Frog's.

Sheogorath's Deadric Quest in Oblivion, I loved the way it made use of the games AI, and the sense of humor. Watching the townsfolk run around dropping poison to kill the rats was brilliant.

Raining Down flaming dogs was even better

Dragging an orphan around Azeroth in WoW. I remember running up to the lighthouse near Westfall at night during Orphan's Week, seeing tons of children gathered below, and thinking "Pedobear approves." :lol

Also, I don't know if this counts as a side-quest or not, but the opening of Ahn Qiraj is probably the greatest end quest experience in ANY video game.

Breeding Chaos in Sonic Adventure.
I spent way too much time doing that in Sonic Adventure 2.

Mentioned a thousand times before, but the Anju/Kafei thing was nice.

Getting the BOOTS OF BLINDING SPEED in Morrowind. Well, I don't really remember the quest but the boots were ballin'
Maybe not best quest for me but great reward. The name just doesn't lie.

Three men and a closet - FFXI. I mean I have to put up with those guys during several quests but that one just made it all worth it.

Character backstory quests were done really well in KoToR I believe. Not out their and magical but down to earth (in a way) and very easy to overlook.

are you guys talking about chocobo hot and cold? i love that shit. kwehhhhhhhh

also, secret level shines from mario sunshine.

If guild quests in Oblivion are considered side-quests, most of the Dark Brotherhood quests are fantastic. Really, most side-quests in Oblivion are quite enjoyable. I <3 Oblivion.

Best part of the game, really.

But have you tried boots of blinding speed + constant levitation/flying? and then add a custom made giant fireball to the mix to wipe out like a third of all residents in belmora in 1 hit.

Really brings back memories...

Planescape: Torments Unbroken Circle of Zerthimon series of sidequests. i <3 Dak'kon.

We have a winner. Putting any fetch quest to get an over-powered weapon/summon makes you stupid... well, I'll let the man festival be exempt from that statement.

All the character "side-quests quests" in Torment added far more to the experience than anything seem in any other games. When a side-quest gives me a greater sensation that my character is the lead of the party; smarter, faster, stronger, wiser and using his abilities to tutor other members as seen in this example, it's a winner. Especially given that most main plots in the games fail to do it it.

Personally I'd go with the whole whore-house section in the same game given it was such a joy to see minor characters better defined than leads in other titles.

I vaguely remember in Kotor when you are in Taris, and you are looking through all the rooms, one guy is hiding because there is a bounty on his head. Then I proceed to take his money, and kill him.
