Ok, I never ignore anyone because I think it's sort of petty, but since multiple people have mentioned this Agggguilera dude I'm curious as to what he did.

Spamming unfunny anime girl and asian girl gifs with constant attention seeking about himself in the funny pics thread. Incredibly obnoxious.

I haven't ignored anyone thus far, as much as I've wanted too. It's the equivalent of taking your ball and going home.

There's no ignore that's less than 6 months.

I only ignore people for two reasons



1) They say that I do not know the topic for which I am arguing about(almost always I have done a ton of research on the topic and am gauging how well the other debaters are versed in the discussion) if and when this happens is normally when I will do two things, 1 I will not respond to the person as they do not actually wish to discuss the topic, or two if they are blatantly being dishonest with regards to the topic in addition to writing off my knowledge of the subject because it makes themselves feel better by insulting others. That's the first one.



2) Racist/Sexist/Bigotry

This implies that every voice in a crowd is worth listening to simply because they're a part of the crowd. I don't agree. I'm strongly against simply "censoring" opinions I don't agree with, especially those of the people who take their time to tell me why they disagree with me. But if the only thing that's standing between someone posting something racist or homophobic (or similar) is a moderation policy, then frankly, yeah, I can do without their voices.

I've dropped a few people into my ignore list. Mainly because people start complaining about the posts exchanged. So I drop them out of my sight for a while to give everyone else a break.

Then they eventually get perma'ed and it doesn't really matter.

Otherwise I lose the ignore filter after a few weeks.

I use the ignore list, but I still read those posts. It's more of a flagging system for me. I use it when someone continually posts things I not only disagree with, but -- crucially -- people who have been repeatedly shamed and clearly live in a weird reality distortion field and no longer want to engage in actual conversation. So, really, the ignore list is just a reminder for me. "Take this post with a gigantic grain of salt, because even if you can't remember the poster's name, they have, at one point or another, proven themselves to be a complete asshole."

This is almost exactly how I use it. Very well explained.

Actually, I once saw a firefox extension for a different forum that was exactly that...I can try and dig it up if you're serious.

Alas, I use Chrome.

I have one person on my ignore list. It was because of their avatar. It creeps me the fuck out and I just didn't want to stumble on it late one night and have nightmares. Luckily we almost never run across each other so it doesn't affect anything. I saw him in a thread a month ago and clicked his post to see if it was still bad and it was. So, he's still there. If he changes the avatar to something less creepy I'd easily take him off.

It kind of sucks that you can't ignore mods. I mean sure I get that you would miss out on new rules being made, but you still have to deal with their opinions..

You can have a mod on ignore if you put them there before they become a mod.

Some people actually see ignoring instead of arguing or feeding trolls as the mature move. I don't really ignore, myself. Chat channels though, gotta use ignore on those. Some people are like psychopaths with finger Tourette's.
