What luxury SUV to buy?

I would get a Cadillac XT5. Also a fan of the Volvo XC-90 and the BMW X5.

A friend of mine has been getting Cayennes for years. I like it but wouldn't personally buy one.

That Jaguar looks sweet. I'll have to look into that.

How new is it? Seems like manufacturers are adding Android Auto (and Apple CarPlay) in new model years and not updating existing ones.
2016. I think we can bring it in and get it updated, but they didn't have Auto when we got it a few months ago.

Cayennes are beautiful cars, I'm absolutely getting one when I'm an old. Get that one.

Toooooo manyyyyy buttoooooooons

Maserati Levante
Porsche Cayenne

My friend recently signed a 3-yr lease for an Acura MDX and has nothing but good things to say. He's driven nothing but Civics, Camrys, and CRVs his entire life, so he's about that comfort. Personally, I think it's an ugly car, but since you're not an aesthetics guy you might love it too.

Scene: Guy wearing Brooks Brothers polo tucked into smart chinos walks into Luxe SUV dealer. Guy to Salesman, "I've always been a Camrolla man, but there's just something about the JX 492..." Salesman, sensing a big fish on the line, "Ahh...it's time you move up to the segment...

My parents have one and I've driven it many times. The cabin feels like a damn airplane or mech cockpit. It's way overdone, and my parents turn signal wand feels like cheap plastic the way it clicks when you signal a turn. I've driven normal cars that have incredibly smooth wand action.

That being said, it's a Porsche so it has power and refinement, but yeah, way too many buttons.

I work in the automotive world, if that matters to you. I'd go Yukon Denali XL. Solid reliability, great interior and drivetrain, and top-notch bang for your buck.

Also, Yukon's hold their value quite well :)

Are you poor or something lmao

Why are Land Cruisers so expensive?

They're a proper go off road vehicle.

Dont get that confused with 'soccer mums weekly run about,' it's a very serious offroad vehicle.

Also skip the Porsche unless you want to claim bankruptcy getting it serviced.

The one that looks best to you. I'm sure the leather for such high-end models and feature-sets will be similar. If you're looking for outliers in certain categories, I bet Model X would be it in Safety.

What active or passive safety feature would Tesla have over Volvo, Mercedes, BMW etc? at that level they all have airbags for everything, adaptive cruise, adaptive brakes, ABS, any amount of active and passive electronic stability, lane departure warning, lane change warning, blind spot indicators, massive disc brakes etc etc etc

I'm interested.

Cayenne and Q7 are kind of redundant. I would go with the Lexus or Land Cruiser. Yukon will actually be substantially cheaper to maintain than any of them if you plan on keeping the car more than 5 years.

Having the battery along the floor greatly reduces rollover (to point of almost making it impossible) and the lack of an engine means you have several feet of crumple zone in front of you. Haven't seen much on the X but the S has won multiple safety awards.

We love our new XC90 - I know its the safest SUV on the road for my wife and daughter - plus it has 360 cam and 7 seats for a "reasonable" price and a cool touchpad.

What he said.. plus the most interior room. They get good highway mileage, especially considering its size, due to the active fuel management system. Probably the cheapest to maintance out of all of them. Tons of luxury features. More charging ports then you'll ever need. Lots more reasons.

I have a Chevrolet Suburban. (Less luxury features, but essentially the same) I said to myself why do i need something this big, but when you need the size it is great to have. I could give many examples why i love my suburban.

Size does Matter

Edit: consider a Chevy Suburban or Tahoe if you wanna save some cash?

How are they redundant? Porsche is extremely comfortable and has probably the best SUV engines outthere. New Q7 has awesome tech package. Lexus is reliable and comfortable, but it's not like it destroys the German SUVs.

i would also add the new X5. Really great car.

RX easily if comfort is a priority and performance is not.. theres a reason its the best selling asian soccer mom car.

Can't go wrong with the Audi Q7. I feel like Lexus vehicles have become stale over the last few generations of vehicles. The Porsche Cayenne is very popular so that's a good option. If you want a really big SUV the Infiniti QX60 or QX80 are very nice to drive. God I love talking about cars.

For those with a new xc90, is the 4 cylinder engine an issue of not enough power? Seems to affect mpg also.

It's not an issue unless you're a snob for more cylinders. Not quite as refined as a 6 cylinder car but no performance issues. It's just continuing the downsizing trend everyone is going for.

I'd say its one of the best off road vehicles you can get, while still being a good vehicle to drive around. Which is why Toyota also make the Sequoia. Its about the same size as a land cruiser, but its more of just a people mover like a chevy suburban or something. Its also inferior to the land cruiser in pretty much every way.

I'm a huge Porsche fanboy, but I love the 2016 X5 35i I've been driving the past few months.

It's a great mix of luxury, sportiness, and utility. You can get a very nicely optioned one around $70K.
