They really need to give 2d Mario to younger Nintendo employees
This right here.I think it's less that Mario needs to learn from Sonic and more that Nintendo needs to take the effort and creativity they put into Mario's 3D outings and apply it to his 2D outings as well.
Nothing? Well outside of being able to disappoint for over two decades and people will still love him for some odd reason. I like Mania as much as the next guy, but Mario games are terrific. Sure the New line is a bit meh, but honestly I think that both 3D Land and World are the true successors to the old 2D games and they're pretty much perfect.
I felt NSMB U was a great game with great level design...but the artwork just ain't great.
That's basically what NSMBU was doing.I'd love a 2D Mario game that tries to harken back to Super Mario World.
All four are a lot more linear than both 64 and Sunshine, but both Land and World took it to a new level. They're both very much 2D in nature with some added depth. Really curious how Odyssey will fit in that line once it's released. I understand that Nintendo sees it as the next one in the 64/SS line, but we'll see once it releases.
No, they succeed Galaxy according to Nintendo.
At one point of the discussion, Tezuka addresses the series' future in which he states: ”We will continue to make 3D and 2D Mario games, but I want to make one that even exceeds New Super Mario Bros."
Famitsu then asks if there is a particular plan in mind. Tezuka only offered up the following: ”I can't say anything concrete yet, but you may see it within a few years."
I want the approach 64 and Sunshine applied to the 2D games. Where you enter a world and there are multiple objectives and various directions to take, no time limit BS.
Did you think about this before posting OP
Sonic has struggled for decades, Mario hasn't
what do you think
I'm enjoying Mania but the only thing I'd like to see 2D Mario take from it is the more inspired, ambitious music.
Nothing
Why?
Because Nintendo are the Kings of Platformers and how to lay out concepts for levels. You see quite a bit of that in Sonic Mania as well.
What Sonic FORCES could learn from Mario Odyssey
I didn't like the "New" style. Perhaps they can do an HD sprite style like Shake-It?
The best 2d Mario in a long time when you play levels that go past the regular approach. But we have Mario Maker
