What NEEDS to make it in the Xbox 360 Fall 2007 Dashboard Update?

Ho and while they are at it, make sure that WMV playback in the dashboard is smooth 100% of the time instead of 50%. At least it can be working perfectly so I'm not really complaining anymore.

What's up with this? Recently I've noticed some of my videos (GTA4 Trailer, some 1UP shows) get reeeally choppy in places in the video. It only happens in some videos, always in the same spots.

WTF?

Microsoft employee blogsite gamerscoreblog.com has a pretty lengthy rant about how much of a pain in the ass it is to maintain your friends list.

Basically it sounds like having your 360 constantly checking the status of over 100 friends would use too much processing power or bandwidth and it might not happen. Better list organization does sound like it is in the works, though. This post was made two days after this topic was made, so I'm encouraged that the powers that be at least glanced at this topic.
They didn't say it had anything to do with processing power. Just that there are technical hurdles.

One possibility - remember that original Xbox consoles still connect to Xbox Live. Unlike Xbox 360, the 100 limit was hardcoded into Xbox games. Let's say they make a server change increasing maximum list size to 1000, and you've got 150 friends online while playing Halo 2 on original Xbox. Which 100 of the 150 friends show up in your friends list? The first 100? The most recent 100 to sign on? Include all the players in the same game, then fill up 100 as best as possible using the rest?

You're correct. I was jumping to conclusions based on what we know about the memory and bandwidth allocation the 360 UI gets when a game is running. It could be something else entirely.

Clan support. Put it in the Live Dash. Here you should be able to see who is in your clan and what games the clan ws really designed for. There should also be an area where the clan leader(s) can post clan info and what not. If you are part of a clan the clan name shoudl be displayed somewhere in your Gamer profile (the moto area shouldn't be used for this)

Multi person private chat is another must have I think.

In regard to friends list management: maybe the ability to make folders for groups of people but more importantly things like seperating people by what game they are playing/putting people playing the game you are playing on the top/putting people that are set to away on the bottom (I'm really not digging this alphabetical shit sometimes)

Let me fast forward through these longass podcasts already. A Now Playing playlist/queue song feature would be kind of nice.

I hate my long list of zero point achievements.

Party voice, sure.

I'll get back to you on the rest. I'm still thinking about it.

An "I want to play..." setting
Basically, allow me to set my status as willing to play specific multiplayer games over XBL, which could then be searched by people on my friends list. An example:

Say I'm playing EDF and I also own both Catan and R6. Now, I'm having a good time playing EDF, but I'd have a better time playing Catan or R6 with some of my friends, and some of them are logged into live while I'm playing EDF. However, like most of the people on my friends list, these are basically fellow gamers who I really don't talk to outside of XBL, so I have no idea if they still like playing Catan or R6, or even if they have those games.

BUT, if I could set my online status to "I want to play Catan; R6 - Coop", then a freind who wanted to play Catan could do a "search for interested friends" search and get my name (and a few others), with the benefit being that the odds of me accepting a game invite would be pretty high.

This would also help the longevity of online titles and increase the purchase of additional content; let's face it, most games have a pretty dead online community after 6 months, even among friends, simply because people sell games or have moved on to different new games with (at the moment) large player bases. Most of the current FPS-style online communities are going to be decimated when Halo 3 comes out. But maybe I still want to play Shadowrun or Crackdown or even Chromehounds? With the "I want to play..." setting, I can keep older games far more active down the road, and will be much more willing to pay for additional maps/content since I know that the odds of people playing with me will be much greater.

Ideally this would tie into being able to edit my games list, too. Hell, just give me a "I currently have these games" list.

This is a very cool idea, and I would certainly take advantage of those features.

Another thing I'd like to see is being able to check if someone has accepted / declined an invite. I hate it when you send an invite to someone and just have to wait a few minutes to see if they're going to be coming or not.

It should either send you a popup, or show you on the messages tab somehow. (eg: have a sent section, telling you the status of the last invites you sent out that session)

PGR2 did something like this (from what I remember, the invited symbol stayed next to a friend's name on your list until they did something) and I've really missed having it on the 360.

One thing that seems really easy to implement and that would make the dashboard much more enjoyable would be adding "one-touch functionality" to various places.

- On the marketplace, add an "add to queue" function to the X button, on free items, so you don't have to go through lots of layers just to start a download. It could even be recursive, so if you "add to queue" an whole game, all the free items for that game would begin downloading.

- On the video and music menu, just let me play the video with the A button, and not go through another menu after selecting the video where I can choose if I want to play it. You could even add "Resume playback" to the X button and "Delete" to the Y button.

- On the memory management menu, add a "one touch delete" function, so that I don't have to select an item, then select delete, and then confirm. Just delete it with one touch of the Y button.

Of course all these features could backfire if people aren't used to them, so just add an "expert interface mode" option to the options menu, to make all these available, so only people that want them will be able to use them.

This is now a bit old, but it wasn't posted here and may be of some interest.

Bonus Round: Xbox Live

Geoff Keighley asks Aaron Greenberg what we can expect in the Fall Update, Greenburg says the next update will focus on "...building the community. More social networking community features... More ways to connect and find people and engage with people and personalize your experience within Live..." and also that they want people to be able to "find people with like interests".

When Geoff asks his specifically if they are going to have "Top Game Downloads" displayed, similar to Movies and TV shows, Greenburg says they are considering it.

Kinda vague, but it should be encouraging for people hoping for better friends list organization or clans.

So abandoning hope for a Summer update?

I want a way to move ****ing locked game saves. Nobody gives a shit about whatever stupid exploits it might enable. And fix the stupid DRM too of course.

I still want a fully customizeable dashboard. It's obnoxious having so much clutter and the only way I'll be satisfied is if I design it myself. Make it Gold only and I'll stay renewed for the rest of time.

5.) Fix the auto sign-in bug
If you use the wireless adapter and leave a disc in the tray, the 360 will not automatically sign into Xbox Live. Not a huge deal, but an annoying bug the Spring update added.

I never had this problem until the last update but then again they sent me a replacement console after the update.

Stop having trial Live Arcade games count as part of my games (achievements).
That's what it should be. Not this:

Let gamers delete ANY achievements or played games they wish.
I don't get why somebody would want to delete their achievements. Played Games? Sure, that would make sense, though it is their own fault if they played Rumble Roses and didn't want anybody to know about it.

- Friends list customization. (Grouping, renaming, and tagging preferably)
- Fix the played games to only list retail games and purchased arcade games. Grouping these into those two groups would be great too.

That is all :)

maybe its just the machine here, but i don't see my selection on seemingly random "big tiles" in the marketplace. if i watch, i can see them do that slight effect where it looks like a light is passing horizontally across them.

it works on the larger lists with the smaller text and everywhere else in the dashboard.

your monitor should do that for you. check your settings. If not, well then your monitor sucks.

Or maybe just your post sucks, since 95% of monitors on the market don't have aspect ratio adjustments.

regarding the preview for pics & themes, i cant believe its still an unresolved issue. other than that, played list management and notification management would make the most sense.

cause I don't always want to launch to dashboard or game all the time.

This is what I was gonna post.

Instead of just telling me who is online, I would like the pop-ups to tell me what they are playing so I don't have to check the friends list.

That's a really good idea

Maybe they regret farming Open Season and Shrek the Third for achievements?

When purchasing a theme or gamerpics, provide a PREVIEW.

Minor but needed.

If you mark the special theme or gamerpic you want with the bar and just wait you'll see a small preview on the upper right of the menu.

I already replaced my Xbox 360 once. My new one is making strange noises, it's loud, the dvd drive is scratching disks and it's also freezing. It is on its way out, so just as well I have a year or so left on my warranty.

Fix the DRM. I don't want to purchase anything on my current Xbox as I know this thing is not going to last, I have already had enough trouble phoning up Microsoft. I am still waiting on points being refunded after a month of phone calls.

#2

Let us delete achievements, it's out personal profile and I should be able to choose whatever I want to put on it. I don't want invites for games I no longer have, crappy launch games that I traded in or a game I won for free (2006 Fifa World Cup) >_<

The only problem Microsoft has at the moment with deleting achievements is that people will be able to abuse it with the Old Spice competitions. There are ways around this though.

That's all I want, and after that I want them to make a quiet update on 360's with a quiter DVD drive and one that doesn't break all the time.

Goup voice chat.
Self explanatory. At least 4 users at a time please.

Organising friends
About 3 million people have already suggested this and i agree

Marketplace news feed
Put a list of new content on the market place blade or the ability to put it on your live blade notifying you when new demos/movies/DLC comes out. So much stuff comes out which i dont even realise because its all hidden away.

Start up control
I dont want games to automatically launch everytime i put a disc in so give us a way to bypass this. (hold down A when inserting a disc or something)

Download manager
Let us re-order download priorities, show us the download speed & estimated time left

DRM changes

- Let us copy MP3 files directly to the HDD...If I plug in my Mp3 player or a CD with Mp3 files or a USB drive, let me transfer the files directly, don't force me to burn an audio CD to rip the songs back to MP3.

- Let us transfer the rights to our content to different machines

Faster loading times

Allow us more options to make custom themes

Let me pick a different picture for each blade when I make my own theme

Fix the slowdown bug in Street Fighter 3 Third Strike in SF Anniversary Collection :D

i think its time for a new interface. the blade system was good while it lasted, but MS has proved time and again it has no idea how to efficiently utilize it.

Voice chat with MSN users
This is the biggest one for me right now. Text chatting is pretty cool, it lets people message me when I'm online, but carrying on an extended conversation is REALLY annoying. I even have a wireless USB keyboard so it's not inputting text that's annoying, it's the fact that I have to stop playing my game while texting. Voice chat lets you play your game while talking to friends. That's the whole point of it. So bring it to MSN. That would be just amazing.

They should make those little images that represent achievements usable for gamerpics. I mean, they're already done, so no extra cost is involved, and it would mean more publicity for the game in question, so there wouldn't be any downsides. And it adds yet another incentive to get that extra hard achievement: you could show it off as your own gamerpic. There's no reason not to implement this...

How 'bout you let the disc sit in the tray and when you are ready, you click or press it in?

Let's talk about innovative and useful ideas. Not ideas to become more lazy.

What do you mean?

i think he means the guide blade that's pretty much empty. you know like being able to control your custom soundtrack you started before entered, read messages, etc.

special character support on the fat32 harddrives and portable devices. right now names like Björk and Sigur Rós show up with garbage.

I know it's been said again and again and again, but seriously, it needs to be screamed until Microsoft gets the god-damn point:

LET ME DELETE THE F**KING GAMES FROM MY GAMES LIST THAT I DON'T OWN!

How are people supposed to use that list to see what they could play with/against somebody else when the list is stacked with Xbox Live Arcade demos that were deleted five minutes after downloading them? You can't use the "0G means they don't have it" rule, because I have some games where I haven't bothered to get any achievements.

And Jesus Christ, let me sort that list alphabetically. It's 2007, learn how to allow for sorting of damn lists.

The other big one for me would be some sort of renaming/tagging so that people can actually know who is who on their friend's list. I've been "shidoshi" since 1989, yet because some yahoo keep stealing my nickname from me around various parts of the internet, I can't be shidoshi on Xbox Live. It'd be nice if I wouldn't have to keep reminding people of who I am after I've been added to their friends list.

Double tap the guide button to go straight to your friend's list. it's a pain going through an extra menu just to find your friends. The Halo 3 beta's "Y" button during the menus to jump straight to your friends list was a godsend...now just make it universal. Double tap ftw!
