What should be in Collector's editions?

I'm a sucker for behind-the-scenes making of features. That alone justified my MGS4 LE purchase. God of War 2 has the perfect bonus disc IMO, and it's not even a CE.

I've stopped buying them now, mainly because they don't include the game in normal case and it makes it stick out like a sore thumb on my shelf.

I remember when I bought Phantasy Star II for the Genesis back in the early '90s.

It came with a full color pocket hint guide.

That was awesome. RPG special editions should come with that, but strat guide companies would hate that nowadays...

I only have 2 Collector's Edition games, and one was pretty much my only choice at the time(WoW right after Christmas '04, sold out all over), but I'd buy more if they weren't full of stupid toys or something. I really like behind-the-scenes things. Art books with works from the entire production, making-of DVDs covering different phases of production. I love that stuff.

That, and full soundtracks. Fuckin Metal Gear..

Blizzard's WoW collectors editions have been acceptable to me. I also imported The Witcher CE which was awesome as well.

Blizzard is the only company that makes collector's editions that I would pay for (although some of those Polish CE's look sort of neat).

Most of the stuff listed I think is ridiculous. Behind the scenes documentaries? That shit should come in the standard version, not cost $10 more. I also don't want crappy toy/figures, shirts I would never wear in public, or posters that will never see the light of day in fear that someone might actually see it.

i have to agree with the guy who said a ten dollar bill. most, if not all, of the collectable crap that comes with these editions is hardly worth the extra money you're paying. if anything, there should be a ticket with a code on it allowing $10 worth of downloadable content for the respective title.

1. Figurine
2. Depending on the game, an art book. For example, why would I want an art book for Call of Duty 4 when it has near realistic graphics? I'd prefer an art book for games like Mega Man.
3. Soundtrack
4. Previous game(s) in the series included on the second disc
5. Director's commentary

EVERY collector's edition?

Soundtracks and artbooks. In fact, I'd be just fine with a soundtrack and artbook for less than a $30 markup.

Certain games, of course, I'm fine with more than that. But at a minimum CEs should have those two things.

An entire other game is good, and not just some retro or mini game. Madden's CE is worth it, assuming you're interested in Head Coach.

Artwork or a tin can or some stupid toy... screw that.

Which is the game that has a piece of the Berlin Wall in it? I want Collector's Editions like THAT

That's the US edition of the World in Conflict CE. I grabbed it and it's pretty sweet. I was afraid I'd get, like, an inside piece...but nope, mine has paint and everything :).

Personally I'm happy with just a nice Steelbook, like FF12. I just wish they'd coat them somehow so the paint wouldn't rub off around the edges.

Those Stalker ones are amazing.

At the very least, a CE should contain the game's soundtrack...

I remember back in the day, my dad got me Deus Ex for PC from the US, it had that big old skool cardboard box, all fold-outy-like. Inside it had a mocked-up newspaper and posters and everything. Max Payne came with a mouse mat that I still use to this day... They weren't even collector's/special editions, although I guess games did cose more back then.

I like ''Behind the scenes'' and Art stuff whether it be cards, posters etc.

Stuff like SoTc's ''Missing/cut collosi book'' now stuff like that should definately be in a collectors edition.

Collector's Editions compelled me about a year ago. Every game that I planned to purchase I always upgraded. But then I realized I didn't need a replica of a coin, a cloth map, or a replica helmet. It's just crap that ends up filling my house with no use. All I'm really interested in is extra game content or a decent behind-the-scenes. I think God of War II did it right when it came with a nice extra bonus disc of special features. And the price wasn't jacked up 30 dollars.

Only collector's edition I have is the Rez Special Package, with the Trance Vibrator. Worth every penny.

0) Disc to have special art on it.

1) Cardboard box (like SotC) without the government warnings and shit not related to the game. All that surplus shit can be on easily removable plastic shrink.

2) Artbook printed on special paper with specially created art from the game.

3) Interactive disc with game related content such as wallpapers, screensavers, illustrations, music.

- A big flashy outer box
- Steelbook case
- High-quality, preferably hard-back artbooks are ok.
- I like rereations of items from the game and figurines.
- Bonus in-game content
- Make it limited but make sure that everyone that everyone has a fair chance to get it.

How to not make a good CE: DMC4
How to make a good CE: Resistance 2

A FULL soundtrack to said game with a REAL artbook. I mean wants the point of the aforementioned when they keep disappointing (SCIV...thanks). I know there are some serious costs for my wants but come on. Oh and I agree with the post on a cover devoid of ratings and etc.

Soundtrack, a REAL making of documentary, and that's all I really need.

But when it comes to PS3 LE's, if they don't start making the extra disc a bluray disc as a standard for hours of high-def behind-the-scenes footage, with mocap sessions, voice rec sessions, and just full blown everything, I'm going to be very disappointed.

MGS4 LE was the step in the right direction, but not far enough. Halo 2 and 3's LE discs both steps in the right direction as well.

DMC4 not so much on the documentary front, but I do appreciate the anime dvd (then again, it was fucking $84).

So yeah, I just want more blu-ray.

Resistance 2 CE looks hot. Anything that actually costs close to the amount you're being charged for. For R2 you get the CE cover, DVD, hard cover art book, 2 figures, and that is 80. And it comes in a nice big box to fill it all.

Not paying 80 for DMC4 when there's 2 pieces of DVD and a metal case. That one was not worth the price.

The main thing I want from a CE is a proper soundtrack. Not a short sampler disc, not a DVD with a music section on it, not a game formatted disc with music tracks (I'm looking at you Mass Effect…) a proper music CD with the full game soundtrack.

Definitely not exclusive in-game content. Skins are ok, but nothing more.

With the PS3 version of a game, there should not be extra DVDs or a second disc. Blu-Ray's 50GB should be more than enough space to include it in every version of the game 90% of the time.

-Full soundtrack.

-Hard cover artbook.

-"Making of" disc that covers everything from concept, to final music and sound effects production.

-Something that further fleshes out the world and story. Could be a comic with a prequel story, or the artbook with descriptions of characters and items in the first half, and then concept art in the second half of the book.

-Something people wouldn't expect, like patches of logos used in the game, keychains of characters/weapons, or figurines.

I would be quite happy if the game appeared in a cardboard sleeve without even a manual if it meant cheaper.

At first when I read that I was all "RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE," but the more I thought about it, I can get on board with something like that. It would solve my damn storage problem... but can we make it cardboard with a plastic insert? I gotta have some stability. ;)
