This is so silly. Art is a HUGE part of the visual appeal of a title. To try to ignore the giant part it plays is silly, and not even worth trying. How appealing the visuals are is DIRECTLY related to what direction they take.

agreed, art is more important than the technical side of visuals IMO.

not counting framerate which is massively important.

I'm not hating on amir0x. It's really not an issue of how good MGS looks- it looks damn good.
But his demeanor on this matter is rather uncomely.

not really. i scanned the thread as best i could in my state and he seemed reasonable. hes been reasonable at least since i've actively viewed this thread.

metal gear solid is the best looking game i have ever seen. this is in stills only, and i'm pretty damn confident seeing the trailier will only inrease its impressiveness

I think, honestly, it's all about the mods. When people starting pathetically going back and forth like in this thread they should just pull out the warning/ban stick and get to whacking. Maybe that's something I should look into creating myself.

Agreed 100%. They don't even have to be permanent bans either, just SOME kind of sign and indication that behaviour like this isn't tolerated and hold people to a higher standard. Instead they ban people over mag scans that are found 2 seconds later somewhere else on the web, or some nipple slip.

well, it's much more realistic. I think GOW's character might be more detailed (his suit especially, i haven't seen a close enough shot of his face to tell) but still looks like a videogame character, whereas snake is much more believable, even though you can see it's not using a huge number of polys (u can count them looking at his chin).
Otacon is probably the best realtime character i've ever seen. Not from a technical pov, maybe, but his facial expression is so..um..deep ?

Anyway, let's not forget what team Kojima did on ps2 despite hardware's limitations...MGS3's models have to be the best i've seen on current gen, it's not really a matter of hardware's capabilities.

i'm flattered you usuaully respect my opinion (seriously), but yeah, i think those mgs shots look better. maybe i'd change my mind seeing both in direct captures rather then 1 being a scan though, who knows.

the difference isnt night and day though. i'd certainly never trash the re5 face in regards to mgs4, as it only looks slightly worse (IMO).

and to say that its because i'm blinded by my love for mgs is just wrong. the only game in the series i really enjoyed was mgs3, and i'd hardly say it was without its flaws. ssx i am not

I don't care if you've discussed this all day; you made certain bold claims that suggests that you are somehow an authority on artistic merit, and I want you to back that up with something a tad bit more solid than random claims of special excellence and pointers to previous achievements. You saw yourself fit to say "Gears of War face looks like an impersonal, pathetically jingoistic, UE3.0 spoon-fed design that is not only inferior to the Old Snake on a detail level (however "slightly" you may deem it), but is inferior on an artistic level. It's as simple as that", yet you haven't since been able to add anything of substance that could support such a show of confidence. If you want to have a debate regarding artistic value and merit, I'm all for it. If not, then you really shouldn't bring up "art" in the first place.
