What was in your library on your first console?

While there was a Commodore 64 and an Atari 2600, my first (own) console was the NES.

In my case, remembering each game I had would be nearly impossible. :p

Not only I rented a ton of games, but my mom (which gave me the NES as a Christmas gift), liked to order games from the Sears catalog based on things she assumed I'd like, and kept them until I got a good grade or something and gave them to me.

She ordered games like Zelda because of an "elf wearing green clothes" or Super Mario because I liked Mario, etc.

Remember one time she giving me Super Mario Bros. 2, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Zelda II at once for behaving well.

Or one time before that I was really sick and didn't wanted to drink the medicine, so she was like "if you drink all doses, you'll vet better and good things will happen". Later that night, she gave me...the first Zelda game. :p

Most were random and unexpected since she never told me.

In other cases, Iwas introduced to nearly every (now huge) franchise because of her and random purchases while going out with her. Like how one time we were at KB Toys and she got me Final Fantasy because it was cheap and said fantasy and Kirby the same way but because the character was cute.

She passed away 2 years ago, so this memories are always nice. Her last game related gift by coincidence were Mario and Luigi figurines, which she gave me a few months before.

Atari 7800 (backwards compatible with Atari 2600 games)
Pole Position II (pack-in game)

Asteroids (7800)
Solaris (2600)
Choplifter (7800)
Vanguard (2600)
Xevious (7800)
Galaga (7800)
Phoenix (2600)
Karateka (7800)
Space Shuttle Simulator (2600)

That's what I can remember. A year later I got the Sega Master System - SegaScope 3D pack.

SNES
Super Mario World
Faceball 2000
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Super Mario Kart
Congo's Caper
Super Mario All-Stars
Jurassic Park
The Death and Return of Superman
Donkey Kong Country
Urban Strike
Earthworm Jim 2
Ms. Pac-Man

There are definitely some stinkers in there (and I know there are other games that I've forgotten to include in the list), but I'm fairly happy with it. Link to the Past was the first game I ever completed, start to finish. Super Mario World and Super Mario-All Stars were great. Earthworm Jim 2 was hilariously absurd, and I loved it as a kid.
Just a good time overall.

Atari 2600

I had:

Ms Pac Man
Defender
Asteroids
Yars Revenge
Adventure
E.T.
Pitfall
Missile Command
Donkey Kong (Coleco Version)
Joust

My crowning jewel was:
Space%20Shuttle%20-%20Journey%20Into%20Spa-full.jpg
Space Shuttle was the raddest game for me. I loved burning up my shuttle on re-entry, and it came with a ridiculous gamepad.... edit, I think it was the number-pad controller that a few other games used (like Star Raiders).

My first console was my friends old PS1 that he gave me as a birthday present. I was fairly young at the time, so I didnt have lots of games:
- A Bugs Life
- Hugo
- Tintin: Destination Adventure
- Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped
- C & C: Red Alert
- Incredible Crisis

I did also play RE2 and 3, but those I borrowed from a friend of mine.
Now, only the controller remains. And the fate of the console itself is unknown.

Atari 7800. My three favorite games in bold:

  • Asteroids
  • Ballblazer
  • Choplifer!
  • Commando
  • Crack'ed
  • Dark Chambers
  • Desert Falcon
  • Dig Dug
  • F-18 Hornet
  • Food Fight
  • Galaga
  • Hat Trick
  • Ikari Warriors
  • Impossible Mission
  • Joust
  • Karateka
  • Mario Bros.
  • Pete Rose Baseball
  • Pole Position II
  • Rampage
  • Robotron: 2084
  • Tower Toppler
  • Winter Games
  • Xevious

My first game system was a SNES.

Super Mario world
Super Mario kart
Donkey kong country
Donkey kong country 2
Donkey kong country 3
Super Mario rpg

Are computers out?

My first console was a Lynx with:

Chips Challenge

Gauntlet

Blue Lightning

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure

Electrocop

Tournament Cyberball

and of course, Todd's Adventures in slimeworld

Atari 2600

Pac-Man
Ms. Pac-Man
E.T.
Space Invaders
Pitfall
Centipede
A few others like a tank game I can't remember the name of, Tennis I think too.

I mainly played Ms. Pac-Man and E.T.

I was one of the rare kids who got an NES without an SMB game. I received a bundle with R.O.B. and one of the few games designed for R.O.B. called Gyromite. Bundle also had a lightgun and Duck Hunt. I received Excitebike and Kung-Fu also when I got it. Best Christmas ever.

Later games I remember: Commando, Major League Baseball, Master Blaster. Mostly rented and borrowed from friends in those days.

Hooboy, my memory might be rusty, but here it goes.

SNES:
Super Mario World
Super Adventure Island (got both with the system)
Super Scope Six
Yoshi's Safari
Donkey Kong Country 1-3
Super Mario RPG (Bought during N64 days)
Link to the Past (ditto)
StarFox (May have been a friend's copy, memory's fuzzy)
Super Mario All-Stars (ditto)

Looking at the list, I just KNOW there had to have been more games that I owned. If anything, I remember renting a whole lot of games from Blockbuster, including the Super Star Wars trilogy of games and for some reason Spider-Man and the X-Men in Arcade's Revenge multiple times.

Apart from Gameboy, my first console was the Dreamcast. I was kind of a late bloomer in terms of console gaming, completely focused on PC gaming until then. Dreamcast got me hooked though.

Library:

Soul Calibur
Shenmue (I)
Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1&2
Resident Evil Code Veronica
Virtua Tennis
Phantasy Star Online
Chuchu Rocket
Metropolis Street Racer
Quake III Arena

I had a 2600 with Dig Dug, Pac Man, Moon Patrol, River Raid and a couple of other titles. My memory is pretty blurry there. The NES was my first love and when I really got into games as the controls and graphics were just so much better.

First console was a PS1, I had MGS, Parappa the Rappa, Spider-Man, Pro Skater 3, Tomb Raider, Tekken, Ball Breakers, Gran Turismo, Crash Bandicoot, and Croc, and... Bubsy 3D.

Sega Mega Drive 2: Sonic The Hedgehog, Streets of Rage, Labyrinth of Death, Rambo 3, Columns something, World Cup something (lol), Story of Thor and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.

Atari 2600

Ms. Pac-Man
Centipede
RiverRaid
Jungle Hunt
Pole Position
Boxing
Tennis
Asteroids
Football

I feel like I'm missing something, but eh... that's close enough.

edit:
OHHHH YES! HOW COULD I FORGET! COMBAT!!! It was one of my favorites!

I know I had Space Invaders, but I can't remember if it was for 26 or 52. Same with Missile Command. Also, even though I favor Nintendo most of all, I had my Master System before my NES. For it I had Shinobi, The Ninja, Zillion 2: Triformation, Hockey (never played it because it required a special controller and I was like eh... don't worry, mom), Hang On and Safari Hunt, and the secret Maze game that was built in.

Mega Drive:

Sonic 1
Sonic 2
Sonic 3D
Streets of Rage
Golden Axe
Revenge of Shinobi
Worms
Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Castlevania Bloodlines
Dynamite Headdy
Aladdin
Mortal Kombat 3
Taz: Escape from Mars

I wasn't allowed to have an Atari, so I had to play at everyone else's houses (all my friends had them). I would later own an NES, but the first library that I had was for C64. I had a *lot* of games. Personal favorites/standouts include

Tons of Infocom (Zork, Enchanter, Deadline, Hitchhiker's Guide, etc) games. They had they best packaging, and came with cool extras... they were called "feelies."
Pool of Radiance (Very innovative RPG based on the AD&D ruleset)
Jumpman (and Jumpman Jr.) fantastic platform-y thing, very imaginative
Temple of Apshai (top-down RPG, lone character in a maze type deal)
Bard's Tale series
Mail Order Monsters

& many, many more.

When NES hit I played and loved the available Mario and Zelda games. I also greatly enjoyed Metal Gear. The first game that I actually saved for & bought with my own money was the original Final Fantasy. What a great experience that was.

I had de PlayStation 1, oh the memories...

Tekken 3
Dead or Alive
Gran Turismo
Gex: Enter the Gecko
Klonoa
Command and Conquer: Red Alert (the pain...)
Crash Bandicoot 3

Atari 2600

Jungle Hunt
Moon Patrol
Asteroids
Breatout
Joust

There were some others, but i can't remember for the life of me what they were all called, i actually think my 2600 is in my dads loft with my c64 and other stuff, might dig them all out one day.

I'm not going to lie, you almost "Notebooked" with that story. Sounds like the best mom ever; I'm so sorry that she passed. When I have kids and if they end up liking games, I'll try that same trick of "get some games when you see then, then surprise your kid as a reward at appropriate times". That's fuckin' awesome.

Oh boy, buy the time I sold my nes it was 1998 and I had 350 games.

Stand outs were:
XEXYZ
the mafat conspiracy
Bionic commando

Those were my favorite games hands down

PS2; A whole bunch so I'mma just list the good ones. I was pretty young when I had it so I missed out on a ton of gems that I've since played, and bought a bunch of shitty games to boot.

Jak 2
Jak 3
Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal
Ratchet Deadlocked
MGS 2
MGS 3
RE4
Downhill Domination
Timesplitters 2

Glad to see other old folks. Hard to believe that was almost 40 years ago...damn)

There were a few other cartridges I had but can't remember what they were at all. It was a long time ago.

Should be everything. I may have owned R.C. Pro Am and Snake, Rattle, and Roll but I'm not positive. Aside from Mega Man, Mario, and Castlevania all the rest of the games were going away gifts from a friend of mine. My parents had terrible taste in games and my decision making outside of Mega Man and Castlevania wasn't much better. I made better decisions once the SNES hit though. Didn't own much crap there at all.

SNES

My brother and I owned Super Mario World, UN Squadron, Super Mario All Stars, Street Fighter 2, and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Fighting Edition with likely several others that I can't remember at the moment.

I didn't really become a gamer until the end of the 64 era, so my taste at the time is question
Power Rangers were so bad XD

NES:
Super Mario Bros 1-3
Duck Hunt
Knight Rider
TMNT
TMNT 2 Arcade
Top Gun
Batman: Revenge of the Joker
Back to the Future
Bigfoot
RC Pro Am

That's all I can remember off the top of my head.

Atari 2600...but I can't remember what exactly we had besides Ms. Pac-Man.

I have a lot more Atari 2600 games now, though...but I play them on an Atari 7800, since my mom threw out our 2600 when I was really young.

How do you guys remember such long lists? I know I had Mega Man 2, Chip 'n' Dale, Bionic Commando, Dragon Warrior and Super Mario Bros but that's about all I remember. To be fair that may have been it.

PS1 was... Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2 Enter Electro, Mortal Kombat 2, Monsters Inc, Tarzan, Disney Story Studio: Mulan, aaaaand Croc I think? That's all I remember off the top of my head.

N64:

Jet Force Gemini (my fav N64 game)
Armorines (couldn't play much of it as it scared me too much)
NAMCO Collection
Pokemon Stadium
Pokemon Puzzle League
WCW vs NWO Revenge
WCW Mayhem
Fighting Force (one of my favs)
Rayman 2 (never played much of it or many games because I never had the ability to save)

and like 15 other games. I never had Legend of Zelda, DK, Banjo and Kazooie or any other widely known 64 games.

Atari 2600. I still have all the games, but I'll try to just remember them all.

Basketball
Combat
Haunted House
ET
Night Driver
Warlords
Tutankham
Asteroids
Pac-Man
Space Invaders
Mario Bros
Missile Command
Pitfall
Empire Strikes Back

I had an NES with Duck Hunt and Mario before that was given away... I barely remember it.

So technically my first console was the Genesis with Sonic, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic Spinball, Tiny Toon Adventures, Fantasia, and uh... that Wacky Worlds game because it had Sonic on the cover.

Pac-man
E.T.

Some spaceship game

Atari 2600, if you hadn't figured it out yet.
