What was the first video game you remember playing?

Sonic the Hedgehog on the Genesis/Mega Drive. I got it for my Christmas along with the Virgin/Dave Perry Aladdin- loved all the 16 bit Disney platformers.

99% sure it was an arcade cab of Missile Command that was at my mom's workplace. She couldn't afford a babysitter so she'd just bring me with her to work and dump me in the little mini-arcade during her shifts. I'd just sit and watch and sometimes when people left in a hurry I'd get a chance to play the rest of their game.

My dad came home with like 150 games for amiga (:lol) when i was a kid. I dont remember what game was the first but supefrog i played the shit out of. God that amiga was amazing and it still works today.

I used to play all day with my ugly neighbour. :D

i think i was the only american kid with an amiga. :lol

Threads like this are fun... with that being said I think the first game I played was either Berzerk on the 2600, or maybe it was Space Fury in the arcades.... I know Space Fury was the game that made me afraid of video games for a while, with the creepy one eyed alien <which I called the one eyed slob> and the early speech synth. :lol

Donkey Kong (arcade).

First time I played the NES I played Rad Racer, Popeye, and Super Mario Brothers at my cousin's house.

Yeah, I'm a Super Mario Bros. kid. Parents got me a Nintendo in 1986, 3 years after my apocalyptic birth. I'm sure this is part of the reason I'm so anal about Nintendo today, when they're not releasing much that appeals to me I'm really disappointed in them but when they release something like Mario Galaxy I'm singing their praises again :lol

Was on one of those 10000000-in-1 famicom cartridges my mom had when we lived back in the Philippines. Good times with that game, still one of my favs. :lol

The tape that came with my VIC-20 had Race, Hoppit, Type-A-Tune and Blitz on it. I played the shit out of Race & Blitz. Can't find a screenie of Race but here is Blitz...

Oh Jesus, I remember that "thing". Bad enough trying to do a Hadoken on SFI, let's make it so you have to slam a pneumatic button too. And I mean SLAM, especially since I was like 7 at the time.

This was the first game I remember. Parents bought an NES along with this game for my brother's birthday. I think my oldest brother had an Atari before that and it is pretty likely I played it but I can't remember.

It was either a Commodore 64 game or a Sega Master system game, I don't remember which was first. And since I can't actually remember all the games that we had on either, or the order in which I played them, I'll just say it was one of the following 2:
Impossible Mission on the C64:
Gameplay Video

OR

Wonder Boy in Monster Land (Sega Master System)
Gameplay Video

God damn, I played Wonder Boy so many times.

It looks like the sprites are twice the resolution of the backgrounds. This goes to show what powerhouses most arcade machines were for their time, I guess. I don't think there were any systems out at the time that were able to pull off an arcade-perfect conversion.

I don't know exactly which one came first, but the very oldest thing I can remember is having a NES (my brother's, actually) and the following games:

- Faxanadu
- SMB
- Excitebike
- The Legend of Zelda
- Duck Hunt
- Some other game for the pistol that had guys with masks or something.
- Paperboy
- Duck Tales

And some more I'm forgetting now.

The ones I played the most were Faxanadu (loved the first city's music. In fact, the game was in English and by that time I couldn't understand anything, so I was just walking around the city clueless), SMB, Ducktales and Paperboy. Also some Excitebike, and a bit of Zelda. I also played the other games every now in a while, but I'll guess the first video game I remember playing would be SMB.

Either Metroid, Super Mario Bros., or Duck Hunt. I know my dad bought an NES way back when I was just a kid, and those were the first three games he bought. I vividly remember playing Metroid with him, drawing out maps and copying down passwords. I remember having long drawn out arguments over the true nature of the protagonist, Samus. One of us thought Samus was a man in a spacesuit, the other thought Samus was a robot. Can't remember who thought which but we were, uh, both very wrong.

I recall playing a bunch of odd adventure games, but I can't remember their names at all. The first game that I actually remember would probably be:

for the Apple IIe
