What was your favorite Nintendo console?

This is a hard question, but I guess I would choose the Wii.

.It had some really amazing games.
.I could play my beloved Gamecube games on it
.I could also play my favourite N64 and SNES on it too. (Apart from some notable exceptions)

And also because by the end of PS2/Gamecube/Xbox gen I was fed up with games and the Wii is what drove my interest back to the industry. It was really refreshing and the multiplayer sessions with friends were just too good. No regrets. Just love it.

Quick edit: The 3DS is looking like it s going to be a strong contender after this generation is finished.

Handheld-wise, it has to be the DS.

Console-wise, either the SNES or the Gamecube. SNES probably has more amazing single-player experiences, but I just cannot ignore all of the great multiplayer times brought on by the Gamecube (mainly Super Monkey Ball and Smash Bros. Melee, but there have probably been others). Also, GCN does hold it's own with single player, given Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, Super Mario Sunshine, etc.

Nintendo DS.

It did amazing job at innovating for the casuals while also keeping the hardcore happy. Also it is the precursor to all the touch-screen gaming that's dominating mobile market these days.

NES

Too many classics to list, I finally rebought one a few years ago and love it to bits.

SNES was also decent. Everything after is meh.

or Wii if you include GameCube compatibility and Virtual Console games.

As for handhelds.
Right now, 1st party wise the 3DS looks like it has potential to even surpass the DS for me. Hope the 3rd parties start supporting it a little more.

Nintendo 64, easily!

I can neither compare nor count the number of exhilaratingly fun-filled days me and a bunch of friends had playing games like Golden Eye 007, or Mario Kart 64. On top of that, this was the console which was home to some truly revolutionary games of the time. Games today still borrow certain foundational elements laid in Mario 64, Zelda: TOoT, or GE007.

It's quite possible I've played better games since then, but in terms of the impact certain games have had on the industry, or ultimately for the reason I play games(fun/entertainment), it's hard to deny that N64 played the bigger role in my life. This is coming from a person who highly cherish his NES & SNES days, above any other.

N64. It was great seeing Nintendo re-invent all their franchises for 3D. Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, and Star Fox 64 are probably the best iterations of their respective franchises. Also a lot of great party games.

Nintendo 3DS is my favorite handheld, since it can play Nintendo's AMAZING DS library and all of their new upcoming handheld games, plus virtual console.

Every last one of them excluding the Virtual Boy. I had great gaming moments on every platform they have released to date. My childhood was glad to have Nintendo as a friend.

Favourite: SNES

A real powerhouse, it was the PS2 of its day. Endless hours spent on SF 2 and Mario Kart alone, never mind the rest of the awesome catalogue.

Honourable Mention: GameCube

Pretty much all the big Nintendo franchises made an appearance and it has the god like RE 4.

Least Favourite: N64

So many of the key Nintendo titles were such a disappointment to me after playing the SNES versions in the previous generation. Environments consisted of large polygons with low resolution textures and the fun factor was as barren as the landscapes. The high point for me was Wave Race 64 which I still think is the best of the series. The low point would probably have to be Yoshi's Story or Mario Sunshine where it felt painfully obvious that Nintendo was just phoning it in. Don't even get me started on what a stupid fucking idea it was to use cartridges...

SNES

My favorite of all time. I don't think I will own another console that really hit gaming straight the fuck home for me. I started with a 2600 and had (almost) every console since and the SNES just shines that little bit brighter.

I can't choose between GBA and DS, those things were monsters for me. 3DS is off to a very good start too.

Least Favourite: N64

Sunshine was GC, though.

Surprised this thread isn't just a battle between NES and SNES.

For those saying N64, I'm guessing you were too young to have a NES or SNES?

I'm going to say SNES. Probably the best library of games ever.
