What was your favorite Nintendo console?

Always and forever.

..to infinity and beyond!

N64 or Wii.

N64 came at the perfect time when I was in school and living close to friends that we could all get together and play the best local multiplayer games of all time.

The Wii was the first console I bought with my own money, and had enough to buy my own games with, so in turn I owned more Wii games than I had previously for any other console. Some of my favourite games of all time were released on it as well.

I barely owned any SNES games to get much enjoyment out of it, had a lot of fun playing through Kirby SuperStar with my friend though, but SMB3>SMW

While everyone is going to pretty much say the one they grew up with I'm going to not break the trend and say the N64. I bought a SNES after the fact and went back and played it a bunch but I still feel like developers were able to do so many more interesting things using 3D space.

The Nintendo 3DS XL for me.

The 3D is lovely, it plays host to my favourite game ever in the form of Super Mario 3D Land, has the best Zelda with Ocarina of Time, the future looks bright and it's my favourite handheld ever.

The N64 was the most revolutionary but 3D Land is so good, the 3DS XL trumps it.

I can't decide between the NES and the SNES. I feel the NES had more ground-breaking, innovative and odd/unique games, which I tend to like a lot. It was a time of finding new and interesting gameplay ideas. It set the standard for a lot of things going forward. SNES games took most of the best ideas from the NES and polished them to almost perfection. But it was more iteration than innovation. This means that many of the games for SNES are very very good though. Usually much better than most NES games and they certainly hold up better today in most cases. But it lost a lot of the innovative and quirky stuff that the NES had an abundance of. But I'm not saying the SNES doesn't have any innovative, ground-breaking or even quirky games. It certainly has that. And I'm not saying all those innovative and odd NES games were all good games either. This is why I have trouble deciding between the two though. It depends on my mood I guess.

For what it's worth my NES collection is about double the size of my SNES collection.

Gamecube 4 lyfe.

As much as it was a barren desert as far as releases went; it had the Wave Bird, Metroid, best Smash Bros., best Resident Evils, more god tier games than any Nintendo system in my experience, and Game Boy Player.

For me it goes: GC > SNES = N64 > Game Boy Family > NES >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Wii > DS family

Super Mario World. Link to the Past. Super Metroid.

I don't know that there's a console out there that could beat just those three alone for me, but even if you removed them from the equation the SNES library would still be almost impossibly good (especially if you love 2D action/adventure/platforming games as much as I do). I consider all of the following to among the best in their respective genres:

Mega Man X
Yoshi's Island
Demon's Crest
Super Castlevania IV
Donkey Kong Country 2
Mario Kart
Chrono Trigger
Super Ghouls N' Ghosts
Contra III: The Alien Wars
Turtles in Time
F-Zero
Star Fox

And that's not even touching a lot of less polished but still incredibly fun titles that filled out the library.

Fucking loved this thing.

This would be my favorite console. I only played a few first party games, with the rest of my roster comprised of Ty the Tasmanian Tiger, Star Wars, and other adventure games. I got many hours out of it during LANs.

On the handheld side, it would have to be either my Gameboy Advanced (and the SP later) or my DS. I don't have most of the GBA and GBC games I used to play, but they were plentiful and I adored that system. I actually just put batteries in mine last week, and I've been playing my DS quite often lately. Man, I've never been as devoted to a system as the DS. I got it for Christmas in 2005 with Mario Kart and I've loved it since. I replaced it with the Lite model the following July, and I have continued to have a blast over wi-fi, LAN, and just cruising through my Pokémon games.

2001-2007 were Nintendo years for me. There was Xbox and PC here and there, but I definitely have very fond memories of these consoles then.

Gamecube is an amazing console in retrospect but it wasn't that amazing when it was actually on the market because of the huge release gaps. But yeah, still a great great console.

I've always been a handheld maniac, so for me it's clearly the DS Lite. IMO it's by far the best handheld ever made in terms of library, battery duration and design.

If I'm going to put on the rose tinted glasses SNES wins out. Thing is this is 2013, and SNES doesn't hold a candle to the Wii.

The Mario games are all playable via the Anniversary ROM if you need that, we have the VC, but most importantly their first party output was OUTSTANDING. Everything from Punchout to Kirby, to Donkey Kong received excellent new editions on Wii.

Even if we were to omit the VC and GC bc, the Wii still trumps them all imo.

It would have been the Snes until the Wii with VC came along.

So Wii, for me.

Xenoblade Chronicles
Monster Hunter 3
Skyward Sword
Twilight Princess
Mario Galaxy 1&2
Little Kings Story
Pandora's Tower
The Last Story
Okami
Metroid Prime 3
New Super Mario Bros
Super Mario All Stars

VC gets me.

A Link to the Past
Super Mario World
Cybernator
Actraiser
Chrono Trigger
+ 20 some others

And lastly, Gamecube Backwards compatibility, I frequently play Wind Waker and occasionally Baten Kaitos/Mario Sunshine.

I feel like the Wii is the best value console I've ever owned. I've loved this generation on 360 and PS3, but I've loved the Wii even more.

Not true. Conker is Rare's best game and is rated M. The thq wrestling games were fantastic at a time when wrestling was hot as shit with everyone in the vital demographics. The n64 also had better multiplayer experiences, as it came with 4 controller ports. Plenty of multiplayer fun with Mario party, smash bros, goldeneye, Mario kart, wrestling, star fox, conker, etc.

I loved the N64 and have a small n64 collection of hits for nostalgia, but my snes collection is like 5x larger. Time hasn't been kind to most of the graphics, and has even ruined my ability to play with one analog stick. It's just that the N64 is really the one I played the most of during its time and with friends.
I hated the N64 mainly because in one fell swoop, they lost everything they had since the NES. No more Megaman, Final Fantasy, Castlevania, Contra, RPGs in general and the games that replaced them were Banjo Kazooie, Blast Corps and Quest 64. It was my most hyped system and I ended up owning 5 or 6 games for it in it's lifetime.

It had a few stand out titles but it's probably Nintendo's worst console with the lowest number of releases and the one that did the most damage to them overall.

You're asking me to choose between my children. I can't do that. I could never do that.

softmodded Wii =P

with no homebrew involved, Ninendo DS Lite; with the ability to play the entire DS and GBA library and no region locks, it's my favorte.
